England vs Montenegro 4-1 Official Highlights, World Cup qualifier
England kept their place at the top of Group H with a 4-1 win over Montenegro and ensured their World Cup hopes remain firmly in their hands. All five goals came in the second half at Wembley after a first period that saw Roy Hodgson's men dominate their visitors. Wayne Rooney finally broke the deadlock three minutes after the turn-around before Bosko Brankovic's own goal doubled their advantage. A fine strike from man of the match Andros Townsend and a late penalty from Daniel Sturridge secured all three points and took the group to a two-way battle between England and Ukraine. With the Ukrainians beating Poland, only two teams can now progress. Ukraine face San Marino on Tuesday, but know that England will go through automatically if they can finish their group campaign off with victory at home to Poland. At Wembley in the first part of this week's deciding double-header, England came out with attacking intentions, highlighted by the debut handed to Tottenham Hotspur winger Townsend in a forward-thinking Hodgson line-up. From the kick-off they went hunting for an early opener as chances came to Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge inside five minutes, but neither could really test Vukasin Poleksic. Rooney also saw a 20-yard deflected drive bounce just wide of the upright, while another Welbeck effort was pushed around the post by the goalkeeper. Most of the game was being played in the visitors half, but they did offer a threat on the break with Stevan Jovetic and Dejan Damjanovic providing an outlet. A couple of long balls forward did turn England's defence but Joe Hart swept away the danger. Fulham's Elsad Zverotic also tried a shot from the halfway line with Hart out of his area, but it was way off the mark. At the other end, England kept knocking as news filtered through of Ukraine's lead against Poland. A Welbeck header on the half-hour from Leighton Baines' free-kick went just wide, then a Steven Gerrard curler was parried for a corner by the stretching Poleksic. Hodgson's men continued to attack with pace, and with five minutes to go before half-time Townsend was released in space down the right. He made a bee-line for the box before shooting low towards goal. Poleksic beat it out, but Rooney was the first on the scene. However, from a tight angle he crashed the ball against the outside of the Montenegro post. Branko Brnovic's men were riding their luck slightly, and when another attack instigated by Sturridge set up Welbeck, his shot looked good, but a deflection took it wide. Sturridge then drilled an effort off target from the corner, and in a frantic finish to the first half his near post flick from a Rooney cross was guided away by a defender. After trying to turn the screw for the majority of the first half, England were out in similar fashion after the break and finally got the goal their endeavours deserved. Townsend carried the ball from deep inside his own half down the right wing and centred towards the penalty spot. Welbeck was arriving on cue, but found Poleksic again in defiant mood. However the Debrecen stopper could not hold on and Rooney was on hand to slip home the rebound from six yards. Montenegro needed to go on the attack, knowing that their World Cup would be over if they failed to get anything from the game, following Ukraine's victory. Hart was called into action to make his first real save when Damjanovic, scorer of Montenegro's important equaliser against England in March, flicked an inswinging free-kick goalwards. The Manchester City man handled the problem well. Hodgson's men were then dealt a slice of good fortune to extend their lead. Sturridge's back-heel set Welbeck on his way down the left channel and he crossed low into the area. With no white shirts in attendance, it looked an easy clearance for Brankovic but he somehow skewed the ball beyond Poleksic and into the net. But they were left with a potentially nervy final 20 minutes when Damjanovic found the back of the net, after a series of England chances went begging. The Three Lions had been given a warning moments earlier when Manchester City's Stevan Jovetic cracked a long-range effort against his club-mate's crossbar. His next attempt was nowhere near as good, but Damjanovic anticipated well, just beating the offside trap to guide home first time. Montenegro's revival did not last long, however, and it was Townsend, impressive on his first outing at senior level, who did the damage again. After a patient build-up, Townsend collected a pass deep inside Montenegro territory, set himself in space and unleashed a pile-driver that swerved away from Poleksic and went crashing in off the post. The Spurs winger's ovation moments later as he was replaced by Jack Wilshere was well and truly deserved. England's win was wrapped up in the final minute when Sturridge, who had been fouled on the bye-line by Ivan Kecojevic, stepped up to take the penalty and dispatched with ease.- published: 12 Oct 2013

England vs Poland 2-0 official highlights, World Cup qualifier at Wembley
England vs Poland 2-0 official highlights, World Cup qualifier at Wembley
England sealed their spot at next summer's World Cup in Brazil with a thrilling and at times nail-biting victory over Poland. Man of the match Wayne Rooney broke the deadlock late on in a first half full of chances before Steven Gerrard stole clear in the dying moments to round off a win over a feisty and feverishly supported Polish side. With Ukraine predictably sweeping aside San Marino 8-0 in Serravalle, England had to win to guarantee their place at the South American showpiece. Roy Hodgson replaced the suspended Kyle Walker with Chris Smalling at right-back and gave Michael Carrick a starting place in midfield in favour of Frank Lampard. And the England boss will have been impressed with his side's performance in testing and stressful circumstances. From the outset Poland's game plan was clear, with the visitors setting up a strong barrier in midfield and giving the England midfielders little time to pick their passes. Robert Lewandowski -- who lit up Wembley in May playing for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final -- was a reminder of the threat posed by the visitors. But England started brightly, with Rooney and Daniel Sturridge combining effectively, while Leighton Baines was given plenty of space to advance from left-back. Indeed it was Baines who pressed forwards to set up the hosts' first half-chance, crossing dangerously for Sturridge and leaving Piotr Celeban to clear for a corner, inches wide of his own goal. Then came the Three Lions' first serious warning. Mariusz Mierzejweski broke rapidly from an England corner and switched the ball from right to left. Approaching at pace, Grzegorz Krychowiak drilled a low shot which had Joe Hart beaten but fizzed narrowly wide of the far post. Within seconds England were back at the other end, with the ball falling kindly for Sturridge though the Liverpool striker just failed to get the ball out from out under his feet. Andros Townsend then thumped a shot from the edge of the area and onto the crossbar, before Sturridge forced another fine save from Arsenal No1 Szczesny. Baines was wreaking havoc with his set-piece delivery and on the half-hour he picked out Welbeck, who brought the ball down for himself, only to recoil in frustration as his prodded effort drifted wide. It looked set to be one of the most action-packed goalless first-halves in Wembley's long history -- but Rooney put paid to that moments before the break. The Manchester United star showed he had a head for occasion when, seconds after losing his protective headband, he stole clear of another Baines cross and nodded powerfully into the far corner for the 38th goal of his England career. However, there was still time for Poland to leave England with their hearts in their mouths as Waldemar Sobota calmly steered past Hart but was denied a goal by an offside flag. Half-time brought respite but little change in attitude as England attacked from the off. Rooney steered in a dangerous cross from the right-hand side which was redirected across goal by Welbeck and Gary Cahill then forced Szczesny into a diving save from the following corner. Poland were proving just as capable of threatening their net as England. Rooney drove forward again and while Kamil Glik was able to cut out the cross, the ball trickled close enough to have half the stadium cheering. Then for around 15 minutes the excitement that had gripped Wembley made way for tension. Poland probed and pressed England's centre-backs, Cahill and Phil Jagielka, into some stressful moments, and the chances at the other end began to dry up. Sturridge came close with a powerful shot through a crowd which left Sczcesny scrambling, while Townsend continued to look lively. But England's main concern was with stemming opposition attacks, and substitute Frank Lampard and Rooney both picked up bookings for fouling Poland players. And if Gerrard's fatigue-fighting run with two minutes remaining brought the goal that finally settled Wembley's home support, the memories of a thrilling finale to England's World Cup qualifying campaign will live long. Welcome to Shenryyr2 plays England in Europa Universalis 4. This is an achievement run to get One Night In Paris, essentially the natural state that exists if you can manage to win the 100 years war. England begins the game with far fewer troops than France, so it is no easy task, and on this patch (1.4) it is a very difficult task compared to earlier patches. London - England - Documentary 2013
London Listeni/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom. With an estimated 8,308,369 residents in 2012, London is the most populous region, urban zone and metropolitan area in the United Kingdom.[note 1] Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium.[5] London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) mediaeval boundaries. With its population of 7,375 in 2011, it is the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core.[6] The bulk of this conurbation forms the London region[7] and the Greater London administrative area,[8][note 2] governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.[9]London is a leading global city,[10][11] with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence.[12] It is one of the world's leading financial centres[13][14][15] and has the fifth- or sixth-largest metropolitan area GDP in the world depending on measurement.[note 3][16][17] London is a world cultural capital.[18][19][20][21] It is the world's most-visited city as measured by international arrivals[22] and has the world's largest city airport system measured by passenger traffic.[23] London's 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education in Europe.[24] In 2012, London became the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times.[25]London has a diverse range of peoples and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken within its boundaries.[26] London had an official population of 8,174,100, making it the most populous municipality in the European Union,[27][28] and accounting for 12.5% of the UK population.[29] The Greater London Urban Area is the second-largest in the EU with a population of 9,787,426 according to the 2011 census,[3] while the London metropolitan area is the largest in the EU with a total population of 15,010,295,[4][30] the Greater London Authority puts the population of London metropolitan region at 21 million.[31] London had the largest population of any city in the world from around 1831 to 1925.[32]London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, and St Margaret's Church; and the historic settlement of Greenwich (in which the Royal Observatory marks the Prime Meridian, 0° longitude, and GMT).[33] Other famous landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, and The Shard. London is home to numerous museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events and other cultural institutions, including the British Museum, National Gallery, Tate Modern, British Library and 40 West End theatres.[34] The London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world.- published: 15 Aug 2013
