One of Afghanistan\'s two vice-presidents, Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim, has died of natural causes aged 57, a government spokesman has said.

The Afghan government has called for three days of mourning, during which flags will be flown at half-mast.

Marshal Fahim was a leader of the Tajik ethnic minority and a former warlord.

He was part of the alliance that ousted the Taliban in 2001 and served first as defence minister, before becoming vice-president in 2009.

President Hamid Karzai\'s office told the Associated Press news agency that Marshal Fahim died from an illness.

A new United Nations report has found that crimes against humanity are occurring in North Korea and calls for an international tribunal to investigate and hold perpetrators to account.

The report, by a UN Commission of Inquiry appointed by the UN Human Rights Council in March 2013, recommends that the UN Security Council refer the situation in North Korea to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights carry out investigations. The three person commission, which was chaired by Australian jurist Michael Kirby, will formally present its findings to the Human Rights Council on or around March 17, 2014. The council will then consider a resolution to act on the commission\'s recommendations.

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni have launched legal action after secret recordings of them were leaked online.

Lawyers for Mr Sarkozy filed a request for an emergency injunction to prevent more transcripts from being published.

They say the recordings were made by a former aide, Patrick Buisson, without the couple\'s knowledge.

Although the transcripts are embarrassing, they are not considered too damaging, correspondents say.

Mr Sarkozy was said to be furious after it emerged that Mr Buisson had recorded hundreds of hours of meetings and private conversations during his 2007-12 term as French president.

In a statement, Mr Buisson\'s lawyer confirmed that the tapes had been made but claimed they had been done to help him to keep a proper record of all discussions with Mr Sarkozy and other officials.

Most of the recordings were destroyed and those that have been made public must have been stolen, the lawyer added.

\'Betrayed\'
Some of the recordings were published by satirical magazine Le Canard Enchaine and website Atlantico on Wednesday.

The initial revelations contain excerpts in which top officials express scorn over the presence of Mr Sarkozy\'s wife at meetings at the Elysee.

They also suggest that Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy was unhappy that she had lost income when she married Mr Sarkozy, and hoped to boost her finances by advertising anti-ageing products.

Mr Sarkozy himself is shown to have been dismissive, even mocking, of the capacities of some of his ministers.

Henri Guaino, one of Mr Sarkozy\'s closest allies, said the former president was feeling \

Afghan vice president Mohammad Qasim Fahim dies
Afghan vice president Mohammad Qasim Fahim dies
  • Order:
  • Duration: 2:03
  • Updated: 09 Mar 2014
One of Afghanistan's two vice-presidents, Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim, has died of natural causes aged 57, a government spokesman has said. President Hamid Karzai's office told the Associated Press news agency that Marshal Fahim died from an illness. Assassination attempt The president called Marshal Fahim a true patriot and said his death was "a huge loss for Afghanistan". He was an ally of leading anti-Taliban fighter Ahmed Shah Masood, who was killed two days before the 9/11 attacks by two Tunisian Islamist militants posing as journalists. After Mr Masood's death, Marshal Fahim headed the Northern Alliance and analysts say he commanded great loyalty from former fighters. Before the 2009 presidential election, Marshal Fahim survived an assassination attempt when the convoy he was travelling in was fired at with rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns. The Taliban said it carried out the attack. His death comes ahead of presidential elections on 5 April to replace Mr Karzai, who cannot run for a third term in office. Marshal Fahim's loyalties had swung between different candidates, Davood Moradian, the head of the Kabul-based Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies, told Reuters. Presidential candidate Hedayat Amin Arsala told AP Marshal Fahim's death "will affect the future political development". He did not give further details. "Malaysia Airlines Flight Found" People Say, Missing/Crashed (Flight MH-370) Malaysia Plane Crash
  • Order:
  • Duration: 3:11
  • Updated: 09 Mar 2014
For those wondering about the Malaysia airlines flight missing or that crashed I have come to the conclusion that some people are just very very low at times, why are people saying that the "Malaysia Airlines Flight Found" does this make nay sense at all, please tell me because to my knowledge the plane was not found at all and is indeed far from getting discovered in my opinion. Now get this. The puzzles encompassing the vanishing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, and the accurate personalities of some of its travelers, are as profound as the southeast Asian waters where multinational quest groups are scanning for the plane. War fleets from two of Malaysia's neighbors were seeking after new leads as Sunday transformed into Monday in southeast Asia. Vietnam's war fleet has detected a coasting protest about 80 kilometers (50 miles) southwest of Vietnam's Tho Chu Island, which is placed off the nation's southwest drift in the Gulf of Thailand, Vietnam National Search and Rescue Committee Spokesman Hung Nguyen told CNN. The item was spotted by a Vietnamese war fleet salvage air ship at about 7:30 a.m. ET Sunday (6:30 p.m. nearby time). Because of the dim, the war fleet flying machine couldn't draw near enough to distinguish the coasting item, and was reviewed to base. Three pursuit and salvage pontoons have since been conveyed to that area. In the interim, Thailand's war fleet is moving its center in the hunt far from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea, Thai Navy Rear Adm. Karn Dee-ubon told CNN on Sunday. The movement took a stab at the appeal of the Malaysians, who are researching potential outcomes the plane turned around and could have gone down in the Andaman Sea, close Thailand's fringe, Karn said. The Andaman Sea misleads the west of a limited segment of Thailand that finishes in the Malaysian promontory, while the Gulf of Thailand deceives the east of that Thai isthmus. A U.s. surveillance plane "thought it saw something like trash yet it was a false alert," said the authority, who spoke on state of namelessness. Toward the conclusion of the day Sunday, more than 40 planes and more than two dozen boats from a few nations were included in the pursuit. Two observation flying machine from Australia, and one plane and five ocean vessels from Indonesia were the most recent augmentations, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, the executive general of civil flight in Malaysia, told columnists Sunday. Likewise, the Chinese war fleet dispatched a frigate and a land and/or water capable arriving boat, as per an online post by China's naval force. Those boats are required to touch base on location Monday morning (Sunday night ET). Those fortifications join the salvage groups generally scouring the South China Sea, close to the Gulf of Thailand, for any indication of where the flight, worked by Malaysia's leader carrier, may have gone down, Malaysian powers said. The zone in center for the vast majority of the pursuit, something like 90 miles south of Tho Chu Island, is the place a Vietnamese plane supposedly spotted oil spills that extended between 6 and 9 miles. Malaysian powers have not yet affirmed the report of the oil spills, which hailed from Vietnam's authority news org. Enormous inquiries far exceed the few parts of data that have developed about the plane's vanishing. What happened to the plane? Why was no misery sign issued? Who precisely was on board? The flight may have changed course and turned again to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian military authorities said at a news gathering Sunday. Be that as it may the pilot seems to have given no sign to powers that he was turning around, the authorities said, ascribing the change obviously to implications from radar information. As the hunt proceeds, the anguishing sit tight continues for relatives of the 227 travelers and 12 team parts ready for plane. Interpol said Sunday that no less than two identifications - one Austrian and one Italian - recorded in its Stolen and Lost Travel Documents database were utilized by travelers ready for Airlines Flight 370. The visas were added to the database in the wake of being stolen in divide episodes in the course of recent years, Interpol said. Italy and Austria have said that none of their nationals were ready for plane. The Italian man whose identification was purportedly utilized, Luigi Maraldi, reached the Italian department in Phuket, Thailand, on Saturday, in the wake of accepting a call from his guardian, Italian Consul Franco Maraldi is staying on Phuket Island as a visitor, and his visa vanished in July 2013, Cavaliere said. Whilst it is so soon it is not possible guess about any association between these stolen visas and the missing plane, it is obviously of extraordinary worry that any traveler was equipped to prepare to leave a global flight utilizing a stolen international ID recorded as a part of INTERPOL's databases," said Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni have launched legal action after secret recordings of them were leaked online. Lawyers for Mr Sarkozy filed a request for an emergency injunction to prevent more transcripts from being published. They say the recordings were made by a former aide, Patrick Buisson, without the couple's knowledge. Although the transcripts are embarrassing, they are not considered too damaging, correspondents say. Mr Sarkozy was said to be furious after it emerged that Mr Buisson had recorded hundreds of hours of meetings and private conversations during his 2007-12 term as French president. In a statement, Mr Buisson's lawyer confirmed that the tapes had been made but claimed they had been done to help him to keep a proper record of all discussions with Mr Sarkozy and other officials. Most of the recordings were destroyed and those that have been made public must have been stolen, the lawyer added. 'Betrayed' Some of the recordings were published by satirical magazine Le Canard Enchaine and website Atlantico on Wednesday. The initial revelations contain excerpts in which top officials express scorn over the presence of Mr Sarkozy's wife at meetings at the Elysee. Henri Guaino, one of Mr Sarkozy's closest allies, said the former president was feeling "betrayed" by Mr Buisson.
