Jan. 29, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) declared that Major League Soccer (MLS) is only the 49th Strongest National League of the World.

Since 1991, the world ranking for the Strongest National Leagues has been determined annually by the IFFHS on the basis of all national (championship, FA Cup) and (inter)continental (confederations & FIFA club competitions) results of the clubs.

Spanish Primera División was named the No. 1 National League for the fourth time in a row and the English Premier League earned second place again. The Spanish Primera División also won top honors in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. German Bundesliga was third again, Italy was fourth and Brazil was fifth.

The English clubs got a better performance for continental competitions (524 points) than Spanish (469 points), but they failed in the FA Cup (72 points), meanwhile La Copa del Rey semifinals were played by the four strongest Spanish teams (144 points).

The Mexican Primera División is the best for CONCACAF region and in Asia, Republic of Korea league bested Saudi Arabia and Japan. In Africa, Tunisia, Egypt and Maroc topped the continent.
