With an area of almost 1.8 million square kilometres (700,000 sq mi), Libya is the third largest country in Africa by area, and the 17th largest in the world. The largest city, Tripoli, is home to 1.7 million of Libya's 6.4 million people. The three traditional parts of the country are Tripolitania, Fezzan and Cyrenaica.
As a result of the Libyan civil war, the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, which had at that time been in existence for 34 years, collapsed and Libya entered a period of governance by a transitional administration called the National Transitional Council. The NTC has stated its intention to oversee the first phase of a transition to constitutional democracy, after which it claims it will dissolve in favor of a representative legislature.

Travel video about destination Tripoli in Libya.
Tripoli is the capital of the desert state of Libya. The old town is known as the Medina and with its narrow lanes and squat buildings it is a combination of Arabian, North African and Mediterranean cultures. The joie de vivre of the local people is obvious and music and dance are part of their daily life. In antiquity the city was called Oea that was one of the three cities of Tripolitania and in Roman times this section of the coast contained the trading towns of Leptis Magna and Sabratha. Since 1963 Tripoli has been the capital of the Great Socialist Libyan-Arab People’s Republic. The old

The Libyan area of the Sahara fascinates with its varied landscapes of lakes set amid desert dunes, ancient towns built of mud, camps with straw-covered circular huts, prehistoric rock paintings and amazing multi-shaped stone formations. For centuries, Ghadames, an oasis town. has been the junction of several caravan routes and thanks to the Mare Spring it has benefitted from a good supply of water. The houses were small but beautifully decorated and red-framed mirrors assist in the illumination of the main room. The uppermost floors were for women only and they could spend their day unvei

Since 1963 Tripoli has been the capital of the Great Socialist Libyan-Arab People’s Republic. The old town contains a souk that was almost fully abandoned following the Great Revolution as private trading was then forbidden but when the law was abolished in 1988 it once again sprang to life. Modern Tripoli is undergoing constant development. Contemporary architecture is everywhere with skyscrapers that contain offices and apartments that have been built on the periphery of the city. Around seventy kilometres west of Tripoli and also located on the Mediterranean coast are the remains of the ancient trading town of Sabratha. Its Theatre has been rebuilt and is still an impressive structure that dates back to the second century A.D. Tripoli, along with the historic towns of the former Tripolitania, is one of the most spectacular places of ancient culture in North Africa and the heritage of an advanced civilisation located on the edge of the Sahara.

Travel Book Review: Libya - Culture Smart!: a quick guide to customs & etiquette by Roger Jones
Travel video about destination Tunisia.
Tunis is a North African city with a long history. After the Hasfides and Osmans, the Spanish Moors came but then had to give way to French colonial rule until present day Independence. In the old town, there are more than 700 historic monuments which include 200 palaces, a colourful variety of buildings and numerous mosques.Among shoreline lava rock is the entrance to the Ghar El-Kebir, a collection of sandstone grottos. During Roman times, thousands of slaves were forced to bring building material for Carthage and El Djem from subterranean shafts. In Sousse, the simple fort of Ribat is probably the oldest Islamic building in North Africa, in which Muslim soldiers lived in monastery-like isolation and in the town’s Archaeological Museum there is a fantastic range of mosaics, predominantly from Punic and Roman excavations. Gabes is an oasis town which overflows with luxuriant floral splendour. By horse and carriage visitors can travel through one of the most beautiful maritime oases in Tunisia where, under 500,000 date palms, tobacco, henna, pumpkins, apricots and bananas thrive. The focal point of important caravan routes and trading centre for goods from Libya and Black Africa, Medenine is a very charming and lively city. Its reinforced honeycomb-shaped caves were the extraordinary-looking buildings that many will recall from the film ‘Star Wars’. The Sahara is the largest desert on earth, with different landscapes such as rock deserts, salt deserts and serene oases. Kebili is located on the edge of a huge salt lake and is a typical desert village with a green oasis and Artesian springs which provide water for its fruit and vegetable gardens. Nefta is also a green paradise in the desert, an oasis town that boasts no less than 152 Artesian wells. Dougga contains Tunisia’s most important ruins which nestle in the hills among shimmering olive trees and poppy fields. Endless deserts and fertile oases, busy towns and isolated mountain regions, Roman temples and Muslim mosques: Tunisia is tempting!

Travel video about destination Sahara Safari in Libya.
The uppermost floors were for women only and they could spend their day unveiled. Ancient Garma was once the capital of the Garamante Realm, one of the most powerful Berber realms in North Africa and the Sahara. Greek and Roman historians wrote much of the mighty tribe that lived in desert which at the height of its power controlled neighbouring tribes and among its arsenal included horse drawn chariots. The discovery of the Akakus rock paintings in 1850 was made by German explorer and scientist, Heinrich Barth. Protected by huge rocks and hidden in a tangled labyrinth of canyons, the rock paintings remained undiscovered for thousands of years. Nestling among the huge sand dunes of the Libyan Sahara is one of the most striking natural wonders on Earth, the Mandara Lakes. Some of the 11 lakes have dried out, such as that of the Mandara while others, like the Am Alma, are at their most impressive. Each lake is surrounded by a green belt in which reed and date palms create what is tantamount to being a biblical ambience. The Sahara, although scorching hot and untamed by Man, has shared with us its remarkable and memorable natural wonders!

Libya, new travel agencies spot, while tour operator are silent about the genocide in Bani Walid
LIBYA, NEW TRAVEL AGENCIES SPOT, WHILE TOUR OPERATOR ARE SILENT ABOUT THE GENOCIDE IN BANI WALID - (Eng + Ita text)
Libya today, new travel agencies top spot, while tour operator are silent about the tragedy of Bani Walid.
Bani Walid is not fallen yet and is resisting to the al-Qaeda and NTC NATO-backed milicias.
NTC mercenaries, after incessantly bombarded the city during the day, only hitting civilian targets, are going night time into Bani Walid, they intrude into civil houses, one after the other, they catch and arrest all man and young leds to be deported to Misrata and Benghazi prisons, where the people of Bani Walid disappear.
We are facing a clear action of ethnic cleaning, this is a genocide under the supervision of USA & NATO, the "world champions in human-rights destruction's wars".

What is going on in Libya is possibly the most important issue Egypt will tackle in its visit, said former Egyptian envoy to Libya Hany Khallaf.

Geographically, Tunisia contains the eastern end of the Atlas Mountains and the northern reaches of the Sahara desert. Much of the rest of the country's land is fertile soil. Its 1,300 kilometres (810 mi) of coastline includes the African conjunction of the western and eastern parts of the Mediterranean Basin and, by means of the Sicilian Strait and Sardinian Channel, features the African mainland's second and third nearest points to Europe after Gibraltar.
Tunisia has a high human development index. It has an association agreement with the European Union and is a member of La Francophonie, the Arab Maghreb Union, the Arab League, and the African Union. Close relations with Europe – in particular with France and with Italy – have been forged through economic cooperation, privatisation and industrial modernization.
In 2011, a revolution resulted in the overthrow of the autocratic President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali followed by the country's first free elections. Since then, Tunisia has been consolidating democracy. The country held its first Parliamentary elections since the 2011 Arab Spring on October 26, 2014, and its Presidentials on November 23, 2014.

Shocking Revelations: The Horrifying Truth About Libya
The "revolution" in Libya was anything but a popular uprising. The "protestors" that overthrew Moammar Gadaffi were in fact al-Qaeda terrorists that had been unleashed on the country by the CIA under the direction of Barack Hussein Obama, and I prove this in this latest episode of The Truth Is Viral.
Even more shockingly, you will hear an exclusive TTiV interview with a NATO spokesman who states, for the record, that the reason Obama had given for intervening in Libya was an utter lie. Obama had claimed that Gadaffi was about to use chemical weapons on the "protestors," when in fact he had been dispossessed of any WMD capability as early as 2003. NATO not only knew this, they were the ones who had been helping Gadaffi get rid of those weapons.
Barack Obama, however, is not one to let a few facts get in his way when it comes to implementing whatever evil agenda he wishes. Under orders from a cabal of international bankers Obama, who has been doing whatever he can to support radical Islamists across the Middle East, the CIA trained and equipped al-Qaeda terrorists and set them on a path of revolution that ended with a new Libyan Central Bank and the black flag of al-Qaeda flying over the Benghazi courthouse.
Assisted by NATO forces and Qatari Army Soldiers, and supplied with weapons by the Qataris, these al-Qaeda terrorists succeeded in removing the Libyan leader from power before brutally murdering him.

Libya, economy likely to top Egypt's visit to Italy, France: Experts
Future arrangements in Libya and encouraging investment and trade in Egypt will top European agenda, say former diplomats
Developments in Egypt's western neighbour Libya and economic relations are likely to top the agenda of a visit by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to Italy and France this week, say former diplomats.
What is going on in Libya is possibly the most important issue Egypt will tackle in its visit, said former Egyptian envoy to Libya Hany Khallaf.
"Since Italy is the European country most directly involved in Libyan affairs, Egypt is very likely to discuss future political arrangements in its visit, as the precarious security situation in its western neighbor greatly worries it."
After the ouster of long-time Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, political instability in the country has resulted in a fight for power, as an internationally recognised government in the country's east which Egypt backs is fighting Islamist-backed factions which took over the capital earlier this year.
Egypt is training Libyan army personnel, a step which Italy has taken before. El-Sisi on Thursday called for more assistance to the Libyan army by western powers.
But Khallaf also believes other issues will be of importance in the visit.
It is possible the issue of the controversial Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam will be on the agenda, as Italy – being the former coloniser of Ethiopia – may have close contact with Ethiopian decision makers, prompting Egypt to seek their support in allaying some of its fears regarding the dam's impact on its share of Nile water, he said.
Khallaf also pointed to Egypt's upcoming economic summit expected in March, saying Egypt wants a strong Italian and French presence in the conference, as investments from both countries are important to the country.
Egypt hopes to attract up to $12 billion for its ailing economy.
Indeed, the Egyptian presidency stated El-Sisi has scheduled a meeting with French businessmen and tourist company representatives in an effort to reinvigorate investment, industry and tourism, all of which were hard-hit by the economic slowdown following the country's 2011 uprising and the political instability that followed.
The president will also attend a meeting by the Italian-Egyptian Business Council during his visit.
Italy is Egypt's top European trade partner and fourth world wide. Italy and France are among Egypt's main trade partners, whose net trade with Egypt exceeds $9 billion.
Speaking to Al-Ahram's Arabic news website, former Egyptian foreign minister Mohamed El-Orabi said the visit is significant as Europe is Egypt's main international partner in trade due to its proximity.
El-Orabi said Italy and France are El-Sisi's first choices as they enjoy a warmer relationship with Egypt compared to others like Germany, precisely due to greater economic.
Strengthening these ties and fighting terrorism were the main objectives behind the visit, Orabi told Al-Ahram.
The visit is El-Sisi's first to Europe and is planned to last four days.
Egypt's presidency said fighting terrorism and the need to align the efforts of the international community against it will top the agenda of the trip.

Putin, Sisi agree on enhancing bilateral cooperation
Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Russian President Vladmir Putin Tuesday ageed to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries after the two leaders met in the Black Sea resort town of Sochi, state-run MENA news agency reported.
Sisi said he was confident that boosting Egypt-Russia relations was something both the leaders were looking forward to. He added that his talks with Putin focused on bilateral ties, as well as regional and international issues.
"This visit is important because it comes after Egypt has taken important steps toward implementing the road map agreed by the Egyptian people after the June 30 revolution," Sisi said after emerging from the meeting with Putin.
Boosting economic cooperation topped the agenda of the meeting.
Putin announced that Russia was discussing the creation of a free trade zone in Egypt. "Russia will supply at least 5.5 million tonnes of wheat to Egypt this year," he said.
"Egypt has already increased (agricultural) supplies to our market by 30 percent (and) is ready to increase (supplies) by yet another 30 percent in the near future," the Russian president added.
On boosting cooperation in the energy domains, Putin stressed that Egypt and Russia were key players in the field of oil and that a Russian energy company had started to work in the Egyptian market.
He said there were other companies interested in the Egyptian market, especially in the peaceful uses of nuclear power.
The two leaders also discussed the situation in Gaza and the settlement of the crises in Syria, Iraq and Libya. "Russia shares Egypt's view against international interference in Libya," Sisi told reporters.
He hoped that tourism cooperation with Moscow would be restored as stability was gradually achieved in the country.
This was the second time Sisi has met Putin.
The first meeting was in January as part of the two plus two talks, Sisi said at the press conference, adding since then the two leaders had been in contact.

VICE travels to West Africa to rummage through the messy remains of a country ravaged by 14 years of civil war. Despite the United Nation's eventual intervention, most of Liberia's young people continue to live in abject poverty, surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution. The former child soldiers who were forced into war have been left to fend for themselves, the murderous warlords who once led them in cannibalistic rampages have taken up as so-called community leaders, and new militias are lying in wait for the opportunity to reclaim their country from a government they rightly mistrust.

Tunisia is the northernmost country in Africa and, at almost 165,000 square kilometres (64,000 sq mi) in area, the smallest country in the Maghreb region of North Africa.[Notes 2] It is bordered by Algeria to the west, Libya to the southeast, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east.
As of 2013, its population is estimated at just under 10.8 million. Its name is derived from its capital city, Tunis, located on the country's northeast coast.
