A 24-year-old man died Thursday, a day after he was struck by a piece of plywood at a construction site on the University of Kentucky campus.
The cause of death for Isaias Cabrera Ramos of North Carolina was traumatic head injury, according to a news release from the Fayette County coroner's office. He was wearing a hard hat, UK spokesperson Carl Nathe said on Wednesday.
Ramos was helping to load plywood while standing on the ground about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday when a piece of the wood flew off the Haggin Hall roof, and fell six stories. It's unclear Ramos was loading plywood onto while standing in the courtyard of the dormitory near the William T. Young Library. Haggin Hall has been under construction by Messer Construction Co. since 2013, Nathe said. Work is expected to be completed this year, he said.
Ramos' death was ruled accidental. Funeral arrangements were pending.
