The series is inspired by the tales of the raiding, trading, and exploring Norsemenof early medieval Scandinavia. It follows the exploits of the legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok and his crew and family, as notably laid down in the 13th century sagas Ragnars saga Loðbrókar and Ragnarssona þáttr, as well as in Saxo Grammaticus's 12th century work Gesta Danorum. Norse legendary sagas were partially fictional tales based in Norse oral tradition, written down about 200 to 400 years after the events they describe. Further inspiration is taken from historical sources of the period, such as records of the Viking raid on Lindisfarne depicted

Mock Trial of Shakespeare's Hamlet for Murder: Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy (1994)
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602. Set in the Kingdom of Denmark, the play dramatizes the revenge Prince Hamlet exacts on his uncle Claudius for murdering King Hamlet, Claudius's brother and Prince Hamlet's father, and then succeeding to the throne and taking as his wife Gertrude, the old king's widow and Prince Hamlet's mother. The play vividly portrays both true and feigned madness—from overwhelming grief to seething rage—and explores themes of treachery, revenge, incest, and moral corruption.
Hamlet is Shakespeare's longest play and among the most powerful and influen

Shieldmaiden
A shieldmaiden (Old Norse: skjaldmær, Danish: skjoldmø, Norwegian: skjoldmøy, Swedish: sköldmö, German: Schildmaid) was a woman who had chosen to fight as a warrior in Scandinavian folklore and mythology. They are often mentioned in sagas such as Hervarar saga and in Gesta Danorum. Shieldmaidens also appear in stories of other Germanic nations: Goths, Cimbri, and Marcomanni. The mythical Valkyries may have been based on the shieldmaidens. The existence of shieldmaidens is heavily debated but scholars like writer Lars Magnar Enoksen and scholar Britt-Mari Näsström argue evidence for their existence, while scholar Judith Jesch disagrees citing lack of hard evidence.

The Poetic and the Prose Edda as sources to Old Norse Paganism
My book "THE SEED OF YGGDRASILL" - with a lot more of this stuff in it - has been published in 2013 and is getting increasingly available as well! Look it up on Amazon (Authors name is Maria Kvilhaug). My website is http://freya.theladyofthelabyrinth.com.
I talk about the major sources into Old Norse myths - the Poetic Edda that was hidden throughout 400 years on Iceland before it surfaced in 1643 AD, and the Prose Edda that was written by Snorri Sturlusson in 1225 AD in an attempt to preserve the old Norse style of poetry. Other written sources are the Icelandic sagas, bardic poems and Saxo Grammaticus´s work Gesta Danorum in Latin.
I discuss the various approaches to these sources and their reliability as sources into Old Norse paganism, and whether the Poetic Edda was a random collection of poems or a planned and coherent book telling one story through many poems.
(For a long time, it was common to believe that the Poetic Edda was a random collection of older and newer poems or versions of poems, put together by one or more learned monks in the 12th century. Several poems are so complicated that scholars believe they present a jumble of different poems almost randomly put together. Lately, however, it has been suggested by some that the Poetic Edda -- especially the poems about the gods -- do fit together as if the collection of poems was meant as a book -- complete in itself. Through an extensive analysis of the divine poems in relation to each other, historian of literature May-Britt Berg claims that the entire collection fits together as if it was meant as one history carrying the same theme. Berg concludes that the Poetic Edda must be a work of the 13th century written by one author basing himself on imagery of the past mythology yet creating a whole new and different universe, inspired, mainly, by the poetic fashion of medieval, Christian Mystic traditions. This suggestion has provoked other scholars who believe that the poems are more deeply rooted in Paganism.
I agree with Berg in one point only: I too believe that the poems of the Edda are, if not written by the same author, put together in order to make one complete book. I believe they were put together by an editor or group of editors that knew what they were doing, editors who, regardless of their faith, held a profound knowledge of old Pagan mythology and what it really meant on some level.
They put poetry -- what I believe must be genuinely and essentially Pagan poetry -- together in an order and a fashion that would convey the entire teaching of Pagan Mysteries -- and yet hide it to those uninitiated.)

Audio: "We Sail West" Composed, Recorded and Mixed by Antonio Pantano - © & ℗ 2014.
Video & Audio Editing: Antonio Pantano
Audio Version & Download: https://arcandia.bandcamp.com/album/we-sail-west
About "We Sail West": I personally took inspiration from the "History TV" Series "Vikings" and I imagined the scenery where Ragnar and his faithful companions sails to England and then I wanted to make a tribute song to this incredible series.
About "Vikings" (Wikipedia): is an Emmy Award nominated historical drama television series written and created by Michael Hirst for the television channel History. It premiered on 3 March 2013 in the United States and Canada.
Vikings is inspired by the sagas of Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the best-known mythological Norse heroes and notorious as the scourge of England and France. It portrays Ragnar as a former farmer who rises to fame by successful raids into England with the support of his family and fellow warriors: his brother Rollo, his son Bjorn, and his wives—the shieldmaiden Lagertha and the princess Aslaug.
Overview: The series is inspired by the tales of the raiding, trading, and exploring Norsemen of early medieval Scandinavia. Further inspiration is taken from historical sources of the period, such as records of the Viking raid on Lindisfarne depicted in the second episode, or Ahmad ibn Fadlan's 10th-century account of the Volga Vikings. The series is set at the beginning of the Viking Age, marked by the Lindisfarne raid in 793.

A shieldmaiden was a woman who had chosen to fight as a warrior in Scandinavian . They are often mentioned in sagas such as Hervarar saga and in Gesta Danorum. Shieldmaidens also appear in stories of other Germanic nations The mythical Valkyries . The existence of shieldmaidens , scholars like writer Lars Magnar Enoksen and scholar Britt-Mari Näsström argue evidence for their existence.
There are few historical attestations that Viking Age women took part in warfare.
the Byzantine historian Johannes Skylitzes records that women fought in battle when Sviatoslav I of Kiev attacked the Byzantines in Bulgaria in 971.
When the Varangians hadsuffered a devastating defeat, the victors were stunned at discovering armed women among the fallen warriors.
When Leif Ericson's pregnant half-sister Freydís Eiríksdóttir was in Vinland, she is reported to have taken up a sword, and, bare-breasted, scared away the attacking Native Americans. The fight is recounted in the Greenland saga.
According to the Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus, shieldmaidens fought on the Danish side at the Battle of Bråvalla, in the year 750.
"Now out of the town of Sle, under the captains Hetha (Heid) and Wisna, with Hakon Cut-cheek came Tummi the Sailmaker. On these captains, who had the bodies of women, nature bestowed the souls of men. Webiorg was also inspired with the same spirit, and was attended by Bo (Bui) Bramason and Brat the Jute, thirsting for war...The same man witnesses that the maiden Weghbiorg (Webiorg) fought against the enemy and felled Soth the champion. While she was threatening to slay more champions, she was pierced through by an arrow from the bowstring of Thorkill, a native of Tellemark."

Hamlet is Shakespeare's longest play and among the most powerful and influential tragedies in English literature, with a story capable of "seemingly endless retelling and adaptation by others."[1] The play was one of Shakespeare's most popular works during his lifetime[2] and still ranks among his most-performed, topping the Royal Shakespeare Company's performance list since 1879.[3] It has inspired writers from Goethe and Dickens to Joyce and Murdoch, and has been described as "the world's most filmed story after Cinderella".[4]
Shakespeare based Hamlet on the legend of Amleth, preserved by 13th-century chronicler Saxo Grammaticus in his Gesta Danorum as subsequently retold by 16th-century scholar François de Belleforest. He may also have drawn on or perhaps written an earlier (hypothetical) Elizabethan play known today as the Ur-Hamlet. He almost certainly created the title role for Richard Burbage, the leading tragedian of Shakespeare's time.[5] In the 400 years since, the role has been performed by highly acclaimed actors from each successive age.
Three different early versions of the play are extant, the First Quarto (Q1, 1603), the Second Quarto (Q2, 1604), and the First Folio (F1, 1623). Each version includes lines, and even entire scenes, missing from the others. The play's structure and depth of characterisation have inspired much critical scrutiny. One such example is the centuries-old debate about Hamlet's hesitation to kill his uncle, which some see as a mere plot device to prolong the action, but which others argue is a dramatization of the complex philosophical and ethical issues that surround cold-blooded murder, calculated revenge, and thwarted desire. More recently, psychoanalytic critics have examined Hamlet's unconscious desires, and feminist critics have re-evaluated and rehabilitated the often maligned characters of Ophelia and Gertrude.

Opie & Anthony: Dahmer Filmmaker & Detective In-Studio (01/31/13)
Detective Patrick Kennedy and Dahmer documentary director Chris Thompson stop by to talk about Jeffery Dahmer. On the Aftershow, Sam & Bob Kelly speculate how the bumbling Sal could be a potential Dahmer.
To listen to The Opie & Anthony Show live, you'll have to travel back in time before Sirius XM fired co-host Anthony Cumia in the most cowardly fashion possible. An e-mail...pathetic. These plugs have sent plenty of subscribers to Sirius XM. No more.
If you're upset about Anthony's firing and want to do something about it, @GrovelingUSA & @OandAProtest on Twitter are your best sources for information since it's constantly evolving.
Should something happen to either mine or Steven's YouTube accounts, we're on Twitter as @jasonayeiter & @steveyknight.

David Anthony Kennedy
A video tribute to someone I've grown a special attachment to over the past few months, and someone who will always be unique and beautiful... David. He was the fourth child of Robert F. Kennedy, although I believe David carried on his own legacy just by being who he was.
Photos come from davidanthonykennedy.com. The song is "When I Look At You" by Miley Cyrus. I DO NOT OWN ANYTHING.

The Backstory: Justice Anthony Kennedy -- The Decider
The Supreme Court is set to finish its term this month, but before the justices leave for the summer, there are several big cases still to be decided including rulings on same-sex marriage, Obamacare and the death penalty. But who is the justice everyone is looking to as the key vote? Justice Anthony Kennedy has developed a reputation as "the decider" of big Supreme Court cases on divisive issues from gay rights to race.
Reuters Legal Affairs Editor Joan Biskupic peels back the curtain on the man in the middle of the big cases. As Biskupic says, Kennedy's voice has been a key part of the gay rights debate from a 1996 decision he authored on an Colorado anti-discrimination law to the 2013 ruling that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act.
While Kennedy has become the swing vote in many cases, on issues of campaign finance, Kennedy has often taken the lead -- including the 2010 Citizens United ruling that allows more money into elections.
When Biskupic asked Justice Kennedy his thoughts about his influence as the Court's decider, Kennedy said, "I think that's overrated." But Biskupic reads between the lines, "I think he sometimes actually enjoys being in the center. That's a lot of power, a lot of influence."
With just three weeks left for the Supreme Court to issue decisions, we'll see if Anthony Kennedy will once again be the Court's swing vote.
