HOLLIS, OKLAHOMA — After pleading guilty to having sex with one of her students from Hollis Middle School, Jennifer Caswell, 29, has been sentenced to serve 10 years in prison. Caswell, who went by her married name, Jennifer Sexton, when she was a teacher, was arrested when she was found in a Best Western hotel room with the 15-year-old student. She did an interview on Dr. Phil where she explained the circumstances surrounding her affair, and sexual relationship with the student. In the interview she said that she was in an unhappy marriage and the student gave her the attention she was lacking at home. She also admitted to first having sex in her classroom after school just six weeks after receiving her teacher’s certificate. The pair reportedly had sex several more times, according to The Oklahoman, including in Caswell’s SUV, at her house and at the house of the boy’s father, who is a pastor. She resigned from her position as an English teacher at Hollis Middle School when suspicions started to mount about her inappropriate relationship with the student. According to the Daily Mail, Caswell drove 650 miles to visit the boy on his family vacation. That’s when they were caught red handed. Caswell was arrested at the Olive Branch Mississippi Best Western hotel and charged with three counts of second-degree rape, two counts of enticing a child, and one count of forcible sodomy. Hollis attorney David Cummins is quoted by The Oklahoman as saying: “I can’t say that we had ever considered it being that harsh. It [the sentence] was somewhere in the neighborhood of at least twice what we anticipated.” Caswell won’t be eligible for release for at least 8.5 years.
