A 17 year-old has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault following a city-wide manhunt.
The Colombian national was arrested on Friday at a camping ground in Johanna, near Apollo Bay and taken into custody to be interviewed by police.
Sexual Crimes Squad detectives have charged the youth with six counts of rape, two counts of assault with intent to rape, one count of robbery, three counts of stalking, two counts of intentionally cause injury, two counts of recklessly cause injury and one count of abduction.
Police had appealed to the public earlier in the week following a series of brazen attacks on women in and around the CBD since November. On January 18, a 22 year-old woman on her way to work was allegedly assaulted in a building stairwell after being dragged from Southern Cross Station.
On the same morning, three women told police they had been followed into the female toilets at Southern Cross station by a man. They said they locked themselves inside cubicles and called police.
The youth has been remanded in custody and will appear at a Children's Court on January 28.
