The Hottest Place on Earth

Kate Humble and Steve Leonard, along with earth scientist Dougal Jerram and biologist Richard Wiese begin their exploration of the Danakil depression. Using camels and relying on the help of local guides, they journey to Dallol in the north of the Danakil Desert, the location of a vast salt mine. On their way, the team cope with temperatures that reach as high as 46 degrees centigrade, and examine the extraordinary volcanic activity of the Danakil region which has helped to create deposits of salt and sulphur.
