Extispicy (from Latin extispicium) is the practice of using anomalies in animal entrails to predict or divine future events.^[1] Organs inspected include the liver, intestines, and lungs. The animal used for extispicy must often be ritually pure and slaughtered in a special ceremony.^{[citation needed]}

The practice was first common in ancient Mesopotamian, Hittite^[2] and Canaanite temples.^{[citation needed]} Later, soothsayers from Ancient Roman times used the entrails of a bull to determine the advisability of a particular endeavor and Etruscans used patterns seen in the livers of sheep to assess their future. There exists substantial evidence to indicate that this was the main form of divination within classical cultures.^[1]

Organ models and extispicy manuals in cuneiform script are widely found in archaeological excavations in the regions, showing the prevalence and significance of extispicy. Commonly, (in antiquity) the majority of the divination was wrought from viewing the intestines and the liver.^[1]

Legitimate value[link]

Although extispicy would commonly be viewed with skepticism by the modern mind, some 20th century scholars suggested that this technique was also a valuable and legitimate form of, essentially, autopsy, which might indicate internal disease tied to poor environmental factors,^[1] information that would be important to nomadic peoples.

Ina Drew was a high ranking executive on Wall Street. She was the Chief Investment Officer for JPMorgan Chase and resigned after the company suffered a trading loss of $2 billion in April/May 2012.^[1]

Professional life[link]

She was one of very few high ranking female executives on Wall Street. "Until the loss was disclosed late Thursday [May 10, 2012], Drew was considered by some market participants as one of the best managers of balance-sheet risks. She earned more than $15 million in each of the last two years."^[2] Her reported compensation for 2011 was $14 million. In 1993, she was profiled as one of Crain's New York "40 under 40."^[3] She was CIO of JP Morgan Chase & Co. since February 2005. "Prior to that she was Head of Global Treasury [at JPM].^[4] She earned a master's degree in international economics from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.^[5]
