Desde el año 2011 que el Norte de África y Oriente Medio se encuentran convulsionados por una ola de protestas y luchas democráticas impulsadas por amplias capas de la población, que sacudieron los cimientos de varios gobiernos que parecían inamovibles desde hace años. Resulta claro que lo que occidente ha llamado “primavera árabe” ha transformado –y continúa transformando- el escenario político de la región desde esa tarde en que Mohamed Bouazizi, joven tunecino vendedor ambulante, se prendió fuego en la ciudad de Sidi Bouzid en protesta porque la policía le había confiscado su mercancía. This post- Melbourne Anarchist bookfair conversation took place in the Melbourne Anarchist Club (MAC) which has a history stretching back to the 1890s. El gobierno colombiano siempre insiste en que el derecho a la protesta social en Colombia se respeta. Sin embargo, el Paro Nacional Agrario y Popular, convocado desde el 19 de Agosto por las principales organizaciones campesinas del país, junto con sectores como transportistas, salud y mineros, ha recibido un tratamiento militar por parte de las autoridades, que han violentado toda clase de derechos de los manifestantes. Una situación particularmente grave, es la que se vive en el departamento del Cauca, donde los dos puntos de concentración, en el norte y en el sur del departamento, enfrentan un cerco militar en el cual el ejército y la fuerza pública demuestran su interpretación de la doctrina del “enemigo interno”. En esos dos puntos, en El Cairo (Cajibío), y en El Pilón, corregimiento de Galindez (Patía) se está cercando militarmente a los campesinos, mientras se les agrede, se les queman los cambuches que han improvisado, los soldados les roban los alimentos y les botan el agua. read full story / add a comment

Mañana, 19 de Agosto, comenzará el paro agrario y popular en Colombia, que marca un nuevo paso en la escalada de la conflictividad social que vemos en ascenso desde el 2008. En la lucha se encontrarán campesinos, cafeteros, cacaoteros, mineros, paperos, arroceros, algodoneros, trabajadores y usuarios de la salud, transportistas, mineros, estudiantes, junto a las principales expresiones organizadas de la izquierda y del sindicalismo. Este paro no es causa de la “agitación subversiva” que el gobierno denuncia cada vez que un pobre dice “basta”. No, este paro es consecuencia directa de la situación calamitosa en que vive la mayoría de la población, con la militarización de los territorios, la locomotora minero energética y la agroindustria, con los tratados de libre comercio hechos para beneficiar a los capitales extranjeros y a unos cuantos cacaos que están asociados a estos. An Irish anarchist living in Melbourne, Australia gives his perspective on the 'asylum seeker' debate there leading up to the forthcoming elections. He argues Irish workers should be standing in solidarity with the most marginalised and dispossesed in our society. In the words of one Aboriginal activist; ' “As people who know what it’s like to be invaded by boat people we are in a better position to judge how the current boat people should be treated. Where the original boat people who took our country were armed to the teeth and bent on conquest, asylum seekers in 2012 are unarmed and seeking sanctuary." [Français]

Durante el primer día del paro agrario y popular, en la ruta de San Pedro a Tulua, Valle del Cauca, a la altura de Chambimbal, se registraron graves hechos de violencia que terminaron con un herido grave, Alejandro Vargas Niño (de 17 años), quien después de recibir un impacto de fusil en el abdomen, requirió una intervención quirúrgica de emergencia. Las jornadas de protesta dejaron también un saldo de más de 70 detenidos en el Valle del Cauca, pero en el transcurso del día algunos fueron siendo liberados. Entre los detenidos que aún se encuentran en poder de la policía en la localidad de Buga, se encuentran cuatro menores de edad y 23 adultos. read full story / add a comment

Gobierno colombiano por fin cumple una promesa. Prometió violencia del Estado y es lo que hemos tenido. Violenta represión contra campesinos participantes del paro agrario nacional convocado para el lunes 19 de Agosto en Colombia. Ya hay un herido de fusil y 40 detenidos en el Valle del Cauca.
