Without Jacko GILL competing , all eyes were on local star and new NZL record holder and best ever shot putter Tom WALSH who had a competition test just 2 days before leaving NZL to go to the coming World indoor championships in ZOPPOT (Poland). In the warm up Tom looked good and threw over the 20m quite easily. Unfortunately he started his competition with 2 fouled attempts for touching the outside of the circle. Tom contested the judge decision but had to admit and deal with it as there was no video evidence available (our own video from the back was from a wrong angle for this matter and could just confirm that there indeed could be a doubt). Tom was obviously disturbed by the incident and lost some of his confidence in the process so far that he finally was unable to break the 20m and had to satisfy with a best throw of 19,89m. Foul or not foul (and Jacko GILL had the same problem in Christchurch 3 years ago) , Tom will have to make sure that this technical point is cleared before competing in Zoppot so that there is no room for doubt on his throws. But out of Tom , this shot put competition was one of the best we have seen in the country since several years concerning the rest of the field with a real battle over 15,50m for the top 3 and good looking young throwers. Jerram HUSTON had his best serie ever and came 2nd with a PB 15,52m. The junior Benedict CHONG WONG was 3rd with 15,50m but fouled a 16m throw , Matthew BLOXHAM , also junior , had a 80cm PB to get 4th with 15,30m . Adam MILLER was 5th with 15,04m .But Dale PRITCHARD who was leading the 2014 NZL rankings and had a recent PB over 16m had a bad day and finished 6th and under 15m with only 14,41m. The men shot put may well be one of the main events at the next NZL championship and not only because of the expected clash between Tom WALSH and Jacko GILL which will attract the medias coverage , but also because the fight of the other throwers for the 3rd place may produce some great satisfactions and a few throws over 16m . Landscapes: Volume 2 is the second of a three part series. Every frame of this video is a raw still from a Canon 5D2 DSLR and processed with Adobe software. In Volume 2 I again show off my beautiful home state of Arizona and I also made several trips to Utah. This video has some iconic landmarks that we have seen before. I felt that showing them again with motion controlled HDR and/or night timelapse would be a new way to see old landmarks.

Most of the motion control for this video was done with the Stage Zero Dolly by Dynamic Perception. Once I got comfortable using the DP dolly I fell in love. I can set up shots now in much shorter times. More importantly for me, it is much smaller and much more portable than my homemade motion control. Without it, shots like the Delicate Arch shot in Utah would be nearly impossible due to the length of the hike. Buy the Stage Zero Dolly if you are looking for quality, inexpensive, easy-to-use motion control. http://dynamicperception.com/
In addition to the Stage Zero, I also used a three axis motion controlled CamTram. The CamTram is the most versatile dolly I have ever used. Its applications are only limited by your creativity. The CamTram has virtually no weight limit. I was able to achieve shots that dolly-in with the camera just over the ground because of the CamTram's ability to hold heavy counter weights.

the film was shot in 2011.
we started the project spontaneously in february in burkina faso and two shots from there even survived over the process. we continued to shoot additional scenes at the north sea cost without still knowing all of the story we would be telling at the end. then in hamburg we shot most of the scenes and finished it in brussels in july.
all in all i would say:
round about 7 days of shooting.
lots of nice shots we didn't put in the final editing ;)

Mirror City Timelapse
When I first started Mirror City, I wanted to create a video that was completely out of the norm. I wanted to showcase something unique and artistic, which takes Timelapse photography into a more abstract direction. Mirror City is a visual story through some of the great American cities: Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. These clips were all processed from their original form, into the kaleidoscopic visuals that you see in this video. Many people visit these large cities every day, and all of these places have been shot and filmed, but I wanted to emulate these urban landscapes in a way that nobody has even seen before. I wanted to put man-made geometric shapes, mixed with elements of color and movement to create less of a structured video, and more of a plethora of visual stimulation.
The video starts off with simple mirrors and recognizable architecture, as the video progresses, so does the visual stimulation, showing the real abstraction of the piece.
I have worked on this piece for an extremely long amount of time. I have spent time mirroring images and videos for the past five years, and I have been working on this specific piece for about four months. I felt it was time to combine Timelapse photography and the simplicity of a kaleidoscope, and create Mirror City.

It’s been almost a year since I started my journey into time-lapse photography. This project has been an ongoing process for about 4 months. There was a lot of trial and error involved, and I spent many sleepless nights in many different unexpected places. Creating this film has taught me about patience, and what it really takes to achieve the shot that you dream about in your head. I realized through the process that the gear isn't as important as the passion you put within your work.
This short video is called EXISTENCE. The video is a statement not only about time and progression, but also a statement about the world we have created for ourselves. The basis of the video contrasts the two extremes of life itself: the urban metropolis, and the beauty outside the city. I love to stargaze. Watching the milky-way float across the sky is one of the most therapeutic experiences I have ever felt. If you haven’t experienced it, then I strongly recommend taking the time to do so.
