‘You Can’t Break A Hamlet …

… Without Cracking Heads!’

Crivven! Jings! And Help Ma Boab! The triumphant return to Tower Hamlets by the English Defence League was pretty disappointing and they only got as far as Aldgate in much smaller numbers than expected. Not only that, but Mr Tommy got a tug as his handlers needed a word. On a major downer, nearly 300 anti-fascists were arrested.

The EDL plotted up on the south side of the river and, after the usual brouhaha and mischief, set off over Tower Bridge where they suddenly decided to hold a sit-down protest. This lasted about 30 seconds before they got a toe up the hole and told to move on. The actual route kept them out of sight, surrounded by City and Met plod as they trudged along lacking their usual bravado and looking increasingly unspectacular.

The anti-fascist RV point was Altab Ali park at the bottom end of Brick Lane with the usual tedious speeches, paper selling and recruitment drives from the various groups. There was a couple of 1,000 anti-fascists of all political persuasions, races, ages and religions alongside a good selection of union banners.

The EDL managed to pull about 5-600 – which is piss poor for a national demo by the ‘world’s biggest protest movement.’ They took a handful of arrests for the usual silliness and plod kept them well kettled. By the time they had got to their ‘designated protest area’ plod had secured a no-man’s land of about 500 yards between them and us. Plod was also in position to kettle the entire anti-fascist demo and had secured the side streets to stop anyone nicking off and confronting the EDL.

We had plotted up at Liverpool Street where we saw a handful of EDL eejits drinking outside the pub who were then escorted away to the demo. We set off to Tower Hill where we saw another small group of EDL under escort and bereft of their usual blather. We got a bit of plod bother and had to move off sharpish to avoid being nicked or Section 60’d and headed back to Brick Lane following the EDL route with a piece of A4 paper and a lot of caution. We circumnavigated our way back to the park which was an impressive sight. As we arrived the black bloc broke out of the park sharpish and headed east trying to find a way round plod and into the EDL. We stayed at the park and had a mooch about (and a couple of delicious samosas) then headed down to Cable Street guided by our facially hirsute navigator where we bumped into a mob of antifa who had just ‘intercepted’ the march as it headed to Aldgate. There were cops everywhere by this time and as we all headed back to the park we saw a large number of anti-fascists kettled on Commercial Road. They were held for ages then mass-arrested and we heard tell of another mob who had also got trapped by plod. This was blatant political policing. Plod had it down tight and left nothing to chance. We managed to get out and about but it was impossible to get anywhere near the EDL. We hardly got any photos or footage and could hardly see them for vans, cops and dogs.

Plod seemed ready to ‘close the door’ on the whole anti-fascist demo – as we had predicted they would last week! – so we took off back to Stepney to find a pub that was A/ open, B/ not covered in cops. We finally found sanctuary in the cheap embrace of Wetherspoons. As S. said as we settled down to some serious drinking, this was not a victory for anti-fascism but for plod: they kept the EDL well contained, had the park and counter-demo well surrounded and there was very little contact apart from the ‘ambush’ by the comrades we met at Cable Street (how apt!). Despite the celebrations in the park and cries of ‘No Pasaran!’ the EDL did not pass but neither did we. However, this was the best turnout by antifascists since the March For England got battered all over Brighton a few months back. It was good to see local youth out in force alongside trade unionists, anti-fascists of all stripes and local community groups. Mr Tommy was arrested for ‘incitement,’ which will no doubt complicate his ever-increasing legal woes, as did a couple of other EDL bugles. We also heard that Dave ‘Maid In Britian’ Bolton was stewarding and got battered by his own side. Again. Well done Dave, give us your address and we will send you peppermint Aero to cheer you up. Of course, the worst situation was the mass arrests of antifascists who were then given restrictive bail conditions about not protesting fascist demos within the M25 area. The next EDL do is in Bradford so the bail conditions shouldn’t be a problem.

The EDL Are A Scab Outfit!

Some EDL ‘Facts’

The EDL are always going on about ‘muslamic pedos’ and yet completely ignore the fact that there have been several known sex offenders amongst their ranks. Those arrested so far are: Richard Price, Michael Coates, Matthew Woodward, Alan Thomas Ellis, Brett Moses, Archie Sleman and SDL member Stephen Payne.

EDL-Cleckheaton-March-2012

The EDL are always going on about the violence at their demos being caused by ‘UAF-commie-muslamics’ but forget the following demos when there were very few anti-fascists in the area and the EDL descended into violence: Walsall fighting with plod, Stoke rampage, Leicester restaurant attack, Bradford and this weekend at Brum as this hilarious footage shows!

http://twitpic.com/d4307m

The EDL are always going on about being a ‘working class organisation’ but how many working class organisations actually support them? In a display of working class unity railway workers refused to transport the EDL from Kings Cross to their Walthamstow fiasco. The EDL and the piss poor Infidels groupuscule have threatened or actually attacked: Unite Union, picket lines, student and anti-cuts demos, a protest against deaths in police custody, and Occupy. We can only assume therefore that the EDL is a scab outfit who is anti-union, pro-cuts, and happy for any of their members to die in the cells. The Infidels also attempted to attack an anti-cuts demo in Manchester and then had to hide behind the police.

This list will be updated as new information comes in. Please contact us with any more details.

EDL Well Twatted!

This is the best footage we have seen from Brum on Saturday. We have watched it about 20 times and Nanatesta was laughing her girdle off ! The EDL were accusing ‘UAF-muslamic-commies’ of throwing bricks at them (Aw! Shame!). Watch this film to see who was throwing what at whom! We are no friend of plod but at times, we understand their angst. Also, it’s the first time we have seen anyone ‘portaloo’ a copper!

We found it on our friends’ excellent EDLNews Xtra website which is a must read chortle everyday for us! Be Seeing You!

Far Right Flustered In Liverpool.

Here is a report on the far right fiasco in Liverpool which saw a dozen of them arrested. See Indymedia: http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2013/07/511518.html
This is a report from the ACA Manchester group regarding the successful James Larkin commemoration in Liverpool on Saturday and the seriously rubbish far-right opposition to it. There was an estimated 250 people on the march and a seperate smaller group of anti-fascists patrolling near-by.
Yesterday saw the annual James Larkin commemoration in Liverpool successfully proceed from its start point to the final rally with no major problems. As per tradition, there was a baying mob of loyalists/fascists on hand to add to the ambiance of the occasion by screeching a wide range of insults at those on the march. Interestingly, whilst on previous occasions there has been a solid presence of several hundred such people, yesterday saw a number of only about 50 or so, in stark contrast to the several hundred on the march itself.
Events of the last week and a half or so might seem to suggest that loyalists can tend to be a bit of a nasty lot, and of course the area’s local fascists aren’t exactly the sort of people you’d be chuffed to see your daughter bring home for dinner, so, according to our sources, a number of activists from both Manchester and Liverpool opted to move around the city separately from the main march with a view to keeping an eye out for any potential wrong-doers.
An early encounter with a small group of fascists showed the extent to which the ‘nationalists’ weren’t willing to put their money where there mouth is when faced with the prospect of an hostile encounter with the opposition. This seemed to set the tone for a day of disappointment for the far right, whose pitiful numbers and primitive tactics saw them caught short on several occasions.
Anti-fascist activists were able to remain mobile both on foot and by vehicle but in reality had very little to do, when faced with such a disorganised and small group of fascists who made at best half-hearted attempts to show their disapproval at the march. A solid chunk of the fascists were arrested for a number of offences, ranging from possession of class A drugs to racially motivated insults and breach of the peace, but the march itself proceeded without problem. There was a massive police operation around the demonstration that seemed to be incredible over-kill given the level of threat. The police have however fallen firmly into the bad books of the local far-right, with the ‘Scouse Nationalists’ (see NF, NWI, NWFF, EDL etc) issuing a fatwa calling for the police to be targeted.Given that the only previous ‘physical exploits’ of the far right in Liverpool include, amongst other incidents, targetting pacifists (and clueless) Occupy protestors several years ago, ganging up to assault lone musicians and turning up to meetings mob handed before leaving when requested to by those on the doors, we don’t think Merseyside Police will be going to the mattresses just yet.
We feel that perhaps the fash are trying to run before they’ve learn to walk, as their fighting prowess is not currently the subject of fireside tales across the land. Regardless, the day represented another sad showing from a ramshackle shit mob with serious delusions of grandeur. Well done to everyone on our side who was out on the day.

Schnews On EDL In Brum!

idiots

This was first published by  the excellent Schnews Bulletin and pretty much sums it all up! They are also our friends in the Anti-Fascist Network.

Yo,ho,ho and a Battle of Brum

UPDATE:  Sunday 21st July

Not the best showing for anti-fascism yesterday in Birmingham, a couple of dozen autonomous anti-fascists actually made the effort to confront the EDL at their muster pub. Meanwhile the UAF rally ¾ of a mile away attracted a mere two hundred. SchNEWS spoke to one of those who confronted them “They’d been shut in the pub for three hours and were completely pissed, really drunk and baying for blood. It was when they got the pig’s heads out we made our move – we were massively outnumbered but that was step too far.” After scuffles the two groups were separated by cops in public order gear.

With that said the EDL rally attracted around a 1000 – certainly a huge jump from their disastrous outings to Cambridge or Walthamstow and indicative of how they’ve benefited from the Lee Rigby bounce but nowhere near what their leadership was hoping for.

The fash didn’t fare so well in Liverpool however where a mission of number of the EDLs splinter groups to disrupt an Irish republican march descended into farce as twelve of them were nicked for offences ranging from racially aggravated abuse to possession of cocaine – party on dudes!

The EDLs next outing is to be a return to Tower Hamlets – at the moment scheduled for September 7th.

http://antifascistnetwork.wordpress.com/

The English Defence League are to hold their first national rally planned since the death of Lee Rigby in Birmingham this Saturday (20th). Tensions are running high after attempted nail bomb attacks on mosques in Tipton and Walsall.

The EDL are being corralled into a pub in Broad Street for up to three hours before being allowed out for the short walk to Centenary Square at around 2pm. They will then be bussed out again. This looks like the very same operation as the last outing for the League to the city in 2011 that saw over a 1000 cops put the city centre on lock-down.

However this time round the EDL have achieved a degree of success in capitalising on the death of Lee Rigby. Their last national demo, in Newcastle, planned months in advance but occurring just days after the murder saw an estimated 1,500 EDL on the streets. Two days later and anti-fascists found themselves outnumbered again in Downing St. The league are likely to get good numbers out in Birmingham. On the plus side the various ‘Strong’ groups that sprang up in the wake of Rigby’s killing seem to have run their course. Either they failed to attract a great deal of support in the first place or they acted in ways to distance themselves from the EDL such as Woolwich Strong donating money to an Islamic cultural centre. Anti-fascists also mobilised quickly to disrupt various EDL attempts to seize the moment with impromptu wreath laying ceremonies.

Although the mainstream media couldn’t get enough of Tommy Robinson, covering his ‘charity walks‘ on national TV and inviting him onto Newsnight, thankfully armed forces charity Help for Heroes refused to have anything to do with him or the EDL, a stance that denied them legitimacy in constituency, they’re desperate to colonise.

pick pockets

BRUM RUSH Report

So why Birmingham? The EDL have a chequered history here in fact their very first demo in August 2009 saw running battles with Asian youth in the city centre. Back then SchNEWS asked “Who benefits from images of radicalised Asian youth fighting with outnumbered white men?” and examined the EDL’s efforts at creating a strategy of tension between communities. This strategy has borne fruit in the number of anti-Muslim attacks that have occurred since Rigby was killed. Tommy’s recent attempts to walk solo into Tower Hamlets under the guise of a charity walk are part of the same strategy – what he really wanted was for the Muslim youth of the area to be goaded into attacking him or the police so he could claim there was a ‘no-go area’ for whites in the capital city.

The EDL revisit this rhetoric in the explanation on their website of why they’re coming to Birmingham, demanding “Why is there an ‘occupied territory’ or a ‘no-go area’ in the heart of our second largest city?” and stating as a fact “Muslims however, seek to impose their own set of laws and belief systems on the people of England, while showing contempt for British law and democracy.” The fact that there isn’t a no-go area and that outside of a few nutters the Muslims of Britain are up to no such thing doesn’t deter them from going on to say “More importantly, we are not going to stand idly by [while] Birmingham become literally the Tora Bora valley of England. Our ancestors fought the Romans, the Vikings, the French and destroyed the Nazis.”

(SchNEWS note to the EDL historical division: the Romans and Vikings invaded successfully, the struggle with the French could at best be described as a draw and this proud island nation had quite a lot of help with beating Adolf)

Wild historical comparisons aside, the EDLs mission in Brum is to galvanize race hate and to create scenes of race war. It is imperative that anti-fascists of all backgrounds are on the streets to oppose them.

Dumb In Brum!

afn banner

Like a dog that returns to its own vomit, the EDL are off to Brum again today and it’s going to be interesting to see how many turnout as past excursions there have been somewhat disastrous. Not only is it going to be boiling hot but plod are kettling them in a pub for 3 hours before their static demo then they will escorted from one end of the street to the other before being bussed out again. What on earth were plod thinking? Everyone knows that the EDL start drinking as soon as they set off in the morning and by lunchtime are blootered and ready for a fight. How this enforced drink-up is going to help matters we can only guess. May we suggest the EDL stick to spritzers and lager top? There is a temptation to suggest that plod were embarrassed by last year and will be looking for the merest excuse to scoop up the EDL en masse like fresh dog poop and chuck em in the back of the van. Canny readers will remember that the EDL’s trip to Walsall last year ended up with them kettled in a side street throwing pub furniture at each other and plod, causing a good many head injuries and a large amount guffaws from anti-fascists. As usual the EDL blamed ‘UAF-commie-anti-fascists’ for the trouble but as plentiful footage illustrated, there were very few anti-fascists allowed near the area.

twatflag

Various EDL divisions have made a right hames of organising coaches to Brum because people say they will buy tickets then don’t thus forcing cancellations. A lot of EDL are either on banning orders, tags or succumbing to apathy. The infighting continues as usual with threats flying about Facebook but all of this is going to be ‘sorted out’ on the day. As usual the EDL are huffing and puffing claiming that 7,200 (!) are going to turn up but this is highly unlikely. They failed to capitalise on the death of Lee Rigby and were rejected by his family, their ‘infiltration’ of the ‘Strong movement’ was a total failure and exposed very quickly, they were rejected by Help 4 Heroes and Mr Tommy was shown as a total media opportunist when he got nicked on his ‘charity walk’ for Amelia Mae Davies, the poor wee lassie who died, and whose family rejected the EDL as well.

nae

There is still a noticeable split between the North and South factions and also between the southern EDL and the desperados of the English Volunteer Farce and sundry other nazi groupuscules. The breakaway Infidels are having an ‘anti-IRA’ demo in Liverpool today which will dilute numbers for Brum but they have been issued with Section 14s by plod forbidding them to turn out. If they manage to get there, they have been allocated a small square to stand in. Both anti-fascists and plod were caught out in February 2012 by a fascist attack on a local Irish march but subsequently the far right have failed to disrupt anything to any great degree. Liverpool has seen the far right do very badly of late with the local BNP falling to bits, the local CxF exposed as a bunch of Walts, deserters and thieves, and a bunch of eejits are up for assault in autumn when porridge seems imminent! The Infidels have been trying to whip up enthusiasm via racial hatred in the North West but their efforts have been negligible to say the least. They keep going back to Ashton-Under-Lynne for some reason where 40 odd of them end up wandering about like wee furry bawbags wondering where it all went wrong.

So the things to watch out are how Brum plod are actually going to cope with the EDL, what numbers the EDL can call out and how many of the Infidels are going to get nicked over the Sections 14s that have been dropped through their doors this morning. We shall see…
