Police are searching for a man who broke into the home of Corrective Services Minister Joe Francis on Thursday morning. 

At 1.26am a man scaled the rear fence of the property in Atwell, entering the premises through an insecure rear door and stealing handbags and keys to two motor vehicles.

It is believed Mr Francis activated a personal duress alarm, alerting police to the break-in.

The south metropolitan district crime team is searching for a bearded man wearing a light-coloured hooded sweatshirt, a baseball cap worn backwards and carrying his shoes.
