Race records in both the men's and women's fields were broken, with the women's full marathon record being smashed by more than six minutes. The annual event also cemented its title as the largest marathon in Australia, according to competition director Tim Crosbie, with 6870 participants completing the race. ''The MCG finish is a big attraction for us and the course has proven to be the fastest in Australia,'' he said. When the men's marathon winner, Dominic Ondoro, ran into the MCG, nearly every spectator leapt to their feet.
