On Sunday, Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis told Italian state television that if Greece is forced out of the Eurozone, other countries will inevitably follow and the currency bloc will collapse. Greece’s new government is trying to renegotiate its debt repayments and has begun to roll back austerity policies with its international creditors. Varoufakis said Greece’s debt problems need to be solved in conjunction with anti-austerity policies – not just for Greece, but for the Eurozone as a whole. Erin weighs in. Then, Erin is joined by Steve Keen – Head of the School of Economics, History, and Politics at Kingston University. Steve tells us if he’s optimistic about the Troika and Greece overcoming their differences and reaching a deal that is acceptable to both creditors and the new Greek government and gives us his take on Greek austerity. Steve’s view is that government must offset the deleveraging of the private sector to prevent pro-cyclicality that undermines longer-term growth. Keen also wants debt writedowns in an optimal scenario, particularly in Europe’s private sector. But, short of this, he believes that option-embedded debt based on GDP growth in Greece is a step forward for the Greek sovereign debt situation. After the break, Erin sits down with Richard Werner – director of international development and founding director of the Centre for Banking, Finance and Sustainable Development at the University of Southampton. Richard talks to us about the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing and gives us his take on wage growth and household debt levels. The credit easing that Ben Bernanke did in the first round of quantitative easing, qualitatively was closer to what Werner proposed when he first created the idea of quantitative easing in the early 1990s. But the other forms of QE will not increase credit growth because bank balance sheets are still encumbered. Richard believes a target for nominal growth would be an improvement over present central bank policy. And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison discuss India. Specifically, India is now poised to grow 7.4% according to government projections. This puts India ahead of China, cementing India’s position in markets as the darling of the emerging market big hitters. Take a look! Travel video about destination Greece. Although Greece is the home of ancient gods, birthplace of European civilisation and a country of great warriors and philosophers it is also a country of many islands with tiny villages and white houses, a deep blue sea and almost constant sunshine.Athens is a lively city set in historic surroundings. Unique among all other Greek temples is the Acropolis whose imposing appearance and artistic decoration signified the great influence and power of ancient Athens. Six female figures, the Karyatides, support the southern hall of the Ionic Temple of Erechtheion that stands on sacred ground close to the main temple. The imposing Mitrópolis is the main Greek Orthodox cathedral in Athens. A total of four architects designed this cathedral whose walls comprise the remains of no less than seventy former sacred buildings. The Cyclades Islands are situated in the middle of the Southern Aegean that like a magic circle flows around its former centre, the sacred island of Delos, Mykonos. For centuries this picturesque former pirate village in the middle of Cyclades group of islands has been the meeting place for artists, V.I.P.’s and the international glitterati. The Cyclades are also known as The Pearls Of Greece and it seems as though the gods have scattered a handful of beautiful pearls into the deep blue Aegean Sea. In ancient times they were also known as The Islands Of Light because Apollo, the God of Light and Learning, was born here and also worshipped on the islands. Santorini is the most southerly of the Cyclades Islands and the legendary location of the mythical lost island of Atlantis and also a breathtaking island paradise of rock, lava, sea and light.Crete is the ‘Island Of Light’ and the birthplace of Zeus. Heraklion is the capital of the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands on which a highly developed culture has existed for four thousand years. It’s no wonder that in these magnificent islands in the Aegean numerous gods, knights and tourists have always found much good fortune and enchantment!

http://bestflights.co.za/europe/greece/santorini Colorful! Spectacular! Beautiful! Romantic! This is some of the words that best describes the island of Santorini. The islands is a result of a massive volcanic eruption that happened 3600 years ago. Even though Santorini has a violent origin it has the most majestic landscape, spectacular sunsets and great wines that lure tourists all over the world. Santorini is one of the great natural wonders of the world, and its main attraction is the landscape and seascape of the island itself. Santorini's primary industry is tourism, particularly in the summer months. Santorini is well-known for its low-lying cubical houses, made of local stone and whitewashed or lime-washed with various volcanic ashes used as colours. The island is popular for its legendary sunsets, which is some of the most spectacular in the world. Santorini ranks among top destinations for wedding celebrations for at least 4 years - primarily for sunset and peace. The landscape such as the blue sky, the little white houses perched on gigantic rocks on hills that plummet to the sea, the lemon and orange groves, the pink and white churches that look like pastry cakes and the faces and warmth and expressiveness of the Greek people makes the island a popular tourist destination. The best time to visit Santorini is from June to September since it is when almost all events and festivals occur. During these months, the weather is great for a swim and staying on the beach. Spoil yourself with a vacation to Santorini and enjoy the beautiful, colourful and spectacular atmosphere with a splash of romance. Check also - http://www.facebook.com/SimioniucAdrianIulianModel Meteora is wonderful place( unique and unbelievable) where you can find 6 monasteries , 4 inhibited by men and 2 inhibited by women. The closest city is Kalambaka at just 5 km where you can find some hotels but the prices are pretty high , I suggest you to get accomodation in Larissa(100km away) or in Thessaloniki(250km away) , Meteora is a 1 day destination because if you follow to main road you can visit all monasteries in just few hours. You can visit here also a cave. The Meteora means , 'middle of the sky','suspended in air'or 'in the heavens above' etymologically related with "Meteorite" is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars,on the plane of Thessaly near the Pindus mountains in central Greece You have 2 ways to get at Meteora , first is From Thessaloniki but you have to drive 250km and the second is from larissa and you have to drive just 100km or you can take a bus from a travel agency. About accommodation tell u that it is pretty bad and expensive , people usually come here to stay 1 night or maxim 2 because following the main road you can visit all monasteries in just 1 day Meteora is a place where you can find 6 monasteries 4 inhibited by man and 2 inhinited by women. As you can see to get here is not easy so take care. And finnaly when you get to the monastery you have to pay a tax to visit it In the 14th during the Ottoman invasion the monks decided to build new monasteries right on the pick, the only safe place in the period of time Here were 24 active monestries Kalambaka is the closest city situated at just 5km People started to live here thousands of years ago but in 9 century a group of monks move up to this nice place. Meteora is a place where natural and man made wonders are linked makeing this place unique. The Holy Monastery of Grand Meteoron is the largest of the monasteries located at Meteora. It was elected in the mid-14th century and the building serves as the main museum for tourists The holy monastery of Varlaam is the second largest monastery in the Meteora complex. It was built in 1541 and it is dedicated to all Saints. The holy monastery of St.Stehen is a small church built in the 16th century. This monastery rests on the plain rather than on a cliff. it was damaged by the Nazis during WW2 who believed it was harbouring insurgents and was abandoned.Nuns took it over and Reconstructed it. The monastery of the Holy Trinity is on top of the cliffs and it was built in 1475. The holy Monastery of St.Barbara was founded in the middle of 16th century. http://youtu.be/5oGkqUul4xE

World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Greece Travel Guide http://bit.ly/19QqISc Shepherd Entertainment gives you the history of Corfu and takes you on a tour of the city's sites and attractions. Its visitors can enjoy the Halikiopoulos Lagoon, St. Mark fortress and the famous Vlacherna Monastery, which is the symbol of the Island. A castle of stones and earthworks stood in the place of the old fortress around the 5th century. It was fortified by the Byzantines who established their capital here as a protection from the attacks of the Vandals, the Goths and the Slavs. In the court, the Doric style pillared garrison church was built. The residential buildings were connected by an underground labyrinth. The walls on the seaside were made higher. In the 18th century, the buildings were surrounded by a wide water jump which is used as a port nowadays. A drawbridge spans the channel. From the esplanade, we can reach the castle using this bridge. The dungeons, the knights' rooms and the towers of the building surmounting the cliff are reminiscent of the fortress that was once impregnable even by the Turkish. The museum and the lapidary tell tales of old ages. Of course, we can't only see Byzantine mosaics but also frescoes and reliefs as reminiscences of the 400 years of Venetian rule. The lighthouse still helps the orientation of ships and the castle chapel is also in operation. The far side of the 5km promenade is occupied by the Kanoni Peninsula. The area between the two ports was the city of the ancient Kerkyra, the excavation of which has not yet been finished completely. The summer residency of the English governors was built on the nice little peninsula covered by rich vegetation. This is where Austrian Queen Elizabeth stayed when she was looking for a place to build her castle and this is where Philip, Duke of Edinburg was born who became the husband of Queen Elizabeth of England. The Halikiopoulos Lagoon can be found between the capital and Perama. The runway of the airport of Corfu was built on its bank. Here can be found the symbol of the island, the Vlacherna Monastery standing on a peninsula with the Pontikonissi or Mouse Island behind. Its white stairs among evergreens lead up to a small nunnery. Vlacherna and its surroundings is the most visited and photographed site on Corfu. The white washed belfry church can be accessed by a foot bridge. Thousands of visitors come to this place on a pilgrimage which is gripping in its simplicity. From the café with terrace on the top of the steep green hill, there's a magnificent view of the monastery and the every changing colors of the sea. The new fortress was built by the Venetians who gave it the obvious name St. Mark. The lion with wings can still be seen over the gate. Today, the base of the Greek navy can be found here. However, in the port, there are hardly any naval vessels. There are more ferries bringing tourists and cars from Bari Italy. By hydrofoil, the travel time can be reduced by 2/3. But travelling this way on a rolling sea is more like an extreme sport. The Byzantine museum can be found in the scenic Capielo district. It was established in the Panagia AntivouniotissaChurch built in the 15th century. Here, paintings and icons by famous artists such as -- Lombardos or Damascinos are exhibited. From the terrace of the marjia, we can view the Venetian port which is called Mandraki like in Cos and Rhodos. Instead of Venetian galleons, today, tourist ships gather here. The Greeks: Crucible of Civilization It was perhaps the most spectacular flourishing of imagination and achievement in recorded history. In the Fourth and Fifth Centuries BC, the Greeks built an empire that stretched across the Mediterranean from Asia to Spain. They laid the foundations of modern science, politics, warfare and philosophy, and produced some of the most breathtaking art and architecture the world has ever seen. This series, narrated by Liam Neeson, recounts the rise, glory, demise and legacy of the empire that marked the dawn of Western civilization. The story of this astonishing civilization is told through the lives of heroes of ancient Greece. The latest advances in computer and television technology rebuild the Acropolis, recreate the Battle of Marathon and restore the grandeur of the Academy, where Socrates, Plato and Aristotle forged the foundation of Western though. The series combines dramatic storytelling, stunning imagery, new research and distinguished scholarship to render classical Greece gloriously alive. Empire of Mind The final segment describes how Athens, at the height of her glory, engaged in a suicidal conflict with her greatest rival, Sparta. Through the eyes of Socrates, Athens' first philosopher, viewers see the tragic descent of Athenian democracy into mob rule. The episode opens in 399 B.C., after the great philosopher Socrates has been sentenced to death and Athens lies in ruins after a war with Sparta. This episode goes back to 431 B.C., to an Athens at the height of its cultural, political, and economic power. Having taken great leaps forward in every field of learning, and with a strong economy that dominates Mediterranean trade, Athens and its 150,000 residents are the envy of their neighbors, in particular, bellicose Sparta. Jealous of Athenian success, the Spartans yearn to spill Athenian blood and dominate the region. Of course, Pericles knows what is coming, and he orders the citizens to abandon open areas and take refuge inside the walls of Athens. The mighty Athenian fleet will provide supplies for the citizens through the port of Piraeus and a walled corridor between that city and Athens. Over time, the navy will prevail, as it had against the Persians, and win yet another victory. Much is at stake -- democracy, freedom, the whole Athenian way of life. As expected, the Spartans invade and burn the open areas around the city. But it is the unexpected that deals the most devastating blow to Athens. Incoming ships with supplies for the walled-in Greeks carry plague-bearing rats feeding on grain. The disease ravages the Athenians, inflicting agony on them and killing one out of every three. The Spartans are of little concern; what matters is surviving until tomorrow. Pericles' esteem plummets even as he himself contracts the plague and eventually dies. Finally in 404 B.C., Athens surrenders. The Athenians, shattered and stripped of their empire, take revenge on their most vocal critic and condemn Socrates to death before a people's court.

Still many perspectives have to be analyzed far better than till now, but we get a general idea what has happened with the history of Greece. Falsehood and deletions of facts, about the Albanian population of Greece, about the role of Orthodox Church during the revolution etc., is shown in this documentary made by Greek TV SKAI.

The Ancient Greeks: Crucible of Civilization - Episode 1: Revolution It was perhaps the most spectacular flourishing of imagination and achievement in recorded history. EPISODE 1: THE REVOLUTION The first part tells the story of the troubled birth of the world's first democracy, ancient Athens, through the life of an Athenian nobleman, Cleisthenes. In the brutal world of the 5th century BC, the Athenians struggle against a series of tyrants and their greatest rival, Sparta, to create a new "society of equals." This documentary makes history entertaining as well as educational. Beautifully photographed, using reenactments, paintings, maps, pottery, metalwork, and "living statues" to take the viewer on a vicarious journey through ancient Greece. Episode one, The Revolution, begins at the dawn of democracy in 508 B.C., with the revolution of the common people against aristocratic rule. The film then travels further back in time to chronicle the key events leading up to the revolution. As the camera roams ancient ruins, the Greek countryside, and old stone roads, the viewer learns that the inhabitants of Greece once lived in mud houses with no sewage and frequently fell prey to disease and warfare. Unable to write, they memorized their works of literature in order to pass them on to the next generation. Over time, their hardship and learning whetted their appetite for freedom. After rule by tyrants of the aristocratic class and a struggle for power, Cleisthenes (570-507 B.C.), himself an aristocrat, sided with the common people of Athens and brought democracy into being. From this beginning, western democracy developed and flourished. All the while during their early maturation into a Mediterranean power, Athens and other city-states had to live with the threat of war from expansionist Sparta as well as the vast Persian Empire. But democracy had taken root, and it proved in the long run to be a greater force than the mightiest of armies. The program closes on the eve of the new society's first great test: invasion by the mighty empire of Persia. If you enjoy what you see hit the subscribe button, comment and like.

Pyro Greece // The Voice of Greek Ultras

Collapse Coming? “Right now we are at the cusp," billionaire George Soros tells Bloomberg TV in this brief clip, the chances of Greece leaving the euro area are now 50-50 and the country could go "down the drain." The 84-year-old fears that talks between Greece and 'the institutions' could "break down," adding that "Greece is a long-festering problem that was mishandled from the beginning by all parties," concluding that the chances of Greece leaving the euro area are now 50-50 and the country could go "down the drain." Finally, Soros notes, what worries him the most is Ukraine. The chances of Greece leaving the euro area are now 50-50 and the country could go “down the drain,” billionaire investor George Soros said. “It’s now a lose-lose game and the best that can happen is actually muddling through,” Soros, 84, said in a Bloomberg Television interview due to air Tuesday. “Greece is a long-festering problem that was mishandled from the beginning by all parties.” "george soros" greece greek euro europe "european union" soros millionaire billionaire russia money currency "forex trading" collapse 2015 2016 business gold silver debt "credit card" credit banking bank "bank account" savings "savings account" uk "united kingdom" england election british "great britain" russia gbp "currency exchange" "holiday money" "greek islands" "gold bullion" "silver coin" "gold coin" vault crisis "elite nwo agenda" mafia rothschild rothchilds bilderberg 2015 end game illuminati new world order alex jones infowars david icke jsnip4 demcad rawdogletard lindsey williams dvd 2008 7 year cycle blood moons cern ww3 jim rogers marc faber glenn beck Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s government needs to persuade its creditors to sign off on a package of economic measures to free up long-withheld aid payments that will keep the country afloat. Since his January election victory, he has tried to shape an alternative to the austerity program set out in the nation’s bailout agreement, spurring concern that Greece may be forced out of the euro. The negotiations between Tsipras’s Syriza government and the institutions helping finance the Greek economy -- the European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund -- could result in a “breakdown,” leading to the country leaving the common currency area, Soros said in the interview at his London home. “You can keep on pushing it back indefinitely,” making interest payments without writing down debt, Soros said. “But in the meantime there will be no primary surplus because Greece is going down the drain.” ...the war in eastern Ukraine between government forces and rebel militia supported by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin concerns him the most. With a week to go before Independence Day, as Greek interior minister Voutsis ruled during today’s Parliamentary bunfight, the new Poverty Relief Bill “doesn’t violate the agreement” signed with the Eurogroupe, and so it will pass into Law. “Well, I set up a foundation in Ukraine before Ukraine became independent of Russia. And the foundation has been functioning ever since and played an important part in events now,” Soros responded.

March 24 -- In an exclusive interview, Hedge Fund Billionaire George Soros discusses Greece's bailout agreement and the U.K. elections with Bloomberg's Francine Lacqua on "Countdown." --Subscribe to Bloomberg on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/Bloomberg Bloomberg Television offers extensive coverage and analysis of international business news and stories of global importance. It is available in more than 310 million households worldwide and reaches the most affluent and influential viewers in terms of household income, asset value and education levels. At a newspaper kiosk in Wannsee, a well-to-do suburb in western Berlin, Christiane Schneider picks up her weekly television magazine and a book of suduko puzzles. She’s focused on finding out what’s on the television, sipping a coffee as she leafs through the listings. But the 67-year old retired bank clerk is easily distracted from the task when the question of Greece is brought up. “I really don’t know how much longer we should keep patting their backs and telling them everything’s going to be alright – here’s an extra 100m,” she says. “If my son kept coming to me for money to get himself out of trouble, I’d help him immediately, but I’d want to see that he was trying to get out of any mess he’d got himself into, wouldn’t I? I couldn’t afford to keep tossing banknotes in his direction.” Tsipras to meet Merkel amid tensions between Greece and Germany Read more Schneider is not alone in her thinking . According to a poll published a week ago, more than half of Germans would like Greece to leave the eurozone, a rise of more than 10% on February. It is a sentiment that is likely to hang heavily in the air when the Greek prime minister, Alexis Tspiras, makes his first visit to Berlin on Monday. “It feels a bit like the Emperor’s New Clothes,” says Anton Brandt, referring to the Hans-Christian Andersen fairytale. “It just needs that child to stand up and say: ‘ha! they’re taking the piss out of us all’, but no one dares do it, especially not a German because we’re scared we’ll be accused of being anti-European,” the 38-year old administrator adds. “There’s no worse insult you can make towards a German.” “The public mood is tipping,” said Thomas Oppermann, chairman of the Social Democrats (SPD) parliamentary group, speaking on a political TV chatshow Hard But Fair, which posed the question: ‘Bankrupt, insulted and brazen – does Greece deserve this image?’ Advertisement The programme highlighted how any sympathy once felt for the Greeks is quickly drying up as feelings of resentment set in. Not least because Germany is the largest single contributor to Greece’s multibillion-euro bailouts and few see an end in sight to payments as long as Greece fails to implement any of the reforms it has promised. “But we must ask how dangerous would the exit of the weakest member from the eurozone be?” Oppermann added. For years the German government has repeatedly excluded the possibility of Greece being forced to leave. The chancellor, Angela Merkel, appeared to repeat that conviction at the end of last week during an address to the Bundestag, in which she said: “We have a long and difficult road ahead of us.” But the more feelings of resentment towards Greece fester, the harder it will be for Merkel to keep voters – and members of her own party – on board. It was no surprise that she drew nervous laughter from some politicians when she said she was looking forward to the opportunity to talk “and perhaps also to argue” with Tsipras. No one is in much doubt that arguing will be more likely than talking when Merkel receives him – with a military guard and a red carpet – at her chancellery. The atmosphere between Athens and Berlin has soured in recent weeks over calls from Tsipras for Germany to pay war reparations for the Nazi occupation during the second world war. German chagrin was only stoked further when the Greek defence minister threatened to send 10,000 refugees to Germany, and said he couldn’t guarantee there would not be a few Islamic State (Isis) terrorists among them. This all followed years of tensions, in which Greek newspapers have repeatedly portrayed Merkel and her finance minister, Wolfgang Schäuble, as Nazis, and the German media in turn has depicted the Greeks as lazy and corrupt. While opinions have been divided over the compensation claims, with Merkel’s government insisting the case was legally closed, one German couple took it upon themselves to, as they saw it, right a historical wrong. On the back of an envelope, Ludwig Zaccaro and Nina Lange calculated that if the compensation claim was divided equally amongst the Germans, their own share would be €875 (£630), and so they paid the amount to a charity supporting austerity-hit families in the town of Nafpolio in the Peloponnese. “We said ‘this is a symbolic gesture, that if we do this, maybe other Germans will follow’,” Zaccaro said. “It’s time to stop demanding the Greeks pay.” Georg Franke, a 57-year-old market-stall holder in Potsdam, said while he believed the Greek government’s behaviour had been “childish”, he did not find its second world war compensation claims so outlandish.

Euro zone leaders will tell Greece on March 19 that time and patience are running out for its leftist-led government to implement agreed reforms to avert a looming cash crunch that could force it out of the single currency. Greece has been kept from bankruptcy by two international bailouts but now risks running out of money within weeks if it does not receive more funds. Greek banks reported the largest deposit withdrawals in a month, a sign savers are worried about the outlook for the country's finances and institutions. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has requested a meeting with the leaders of Germany, France and the main EU institutions on the sidelines of a European Union summit to press for Athens to receive short-term funds to keep itself afloat. "I will repeat to him what I've already told him twice: Greece must undertake the necessary reforms, Greece must ensure that the commitments it made to the Eurogroup in 2012 and more recently are followed up on," European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told France's Europe 1 radio. German Chancellor Angela Merkel delivered the same message in a speech to parliament ahead of the late-night Brussels talks and a crucial visit by Tsipras to Berlin next Monday, saying the crisis could only be overcome if Greece stuck to agreements. No one should expect a solution from Thursday's session or her meeting with Tsipras next week, which offered "time to talk to each other in detail and perhaps also to argue", she said. A political meeting of a small group of leaders could not be used to circumvent the formal agreement Greece concluded on Feb. 20 with Eurogroup finance ministers, she told the lawmakers. "There remains a very tough way ahead," Merkel said. Greece must understand that international aid brought with it an obligation "to reform its budget and work towards one day no longer needing help". European Council President Donald Tusk, who will chair the summit, said he arranged a side-meeting with Tsipras to take the heat out of exchanges around the main table. It would, however, not be decisive as leaders would go on trying to avoid Greece being inadvertently shut out of the euro -- a "Grexident". EU chief executive Juncker has been trying to build bridges between Tsipras and Greece's creditors. His tone of exasperation suggested even Athens' friends are angry at his government's mixture of belligerent rhetoric and procrastination. Another sympathiser, the German Social Democrat speaker of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, warned: "We need to keep our cool. The government in Athens must understand that it is pointless to have an ideological debate." Two EU/International Monetary Fund bailouts totalling 240 billion euros have kept Greece from bankruptcy since 2010 but its economy has shrunk by 25 percent, partly due to austerity measures imposed by the lenders. It risks running out of cash without more aid or permission to issue more short-term debt. EU sources said Greece had refused to provide any update on public finances or reform plans in a conference call of senior euro zone officials on Tuesday and had denied EU, IMF and European Central Bank experts access to government buildings in Athens, insisting all meetings take place in a hotel. The discussions had not gone beyond procedural issues of who would be allowed to talk to whom, the sources said. Asked whether the experts had been kicked out, an EU official said: "The talks in Athens were paused yesterday. This is normal procedure and can be helpful to take stock. There is willingness to talk but the Greeks must deliver." 'Liquidity problem' Deputy Prime Minister Yannis Dragasakis, in a television talk show early on Thursday, accused the creditors' team of exceeding their authority. "The technical teams came to collect facts, but they then requested things which went beyond their jurisdiction. For example, they wanted to review the government as a whole, every ministry's programme and the reforms," he told Alpha TV. Dragasakis acknowledged Greece faced a liquidity problem and needed the cooperation of its European lenders to keep paying salaries, pensions and debt repayments: "We haven't received any (bailout) tranches since August 2014 but we have been meeting all of our obligations," he said. "This has its limits." The ECB agreed late on Wednesday to raise the limit on emergency lending to Greek banks by 400 million euros to 69.8 billion, banking sources said. Bankers said savers withdrew about 300 million euros in deposits on Wednesday. "The uncertainty over the lack of progress in negotiations and the negative news flow has affected sentiment," one banker told Reuters. "It's not a huge amount. But the worry is whether this is the start of a trend that could get worse."
A video apparently showing Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis making a rude gesture when referring to Germany, a lead creditor, has caused controversy. Mr Varoufakis denied raising his middle finger to Germany, while the man who filmed the clip broadcast on German television said it had been taken out of context. The original footage was reportedly recorded at an event in 2013 in the Croatian capital of Zagreb. In the 57 minute-long discussion, Mr Varoufakis talks about the eurozone crisis talks in 2010, and says he had suggested at that time that Greece should "stick the finger to Germany", while using the offending gesture.
