My Mind celebrates the power of imagination and mind. Beautifully mixing hand-drawn and digital animation, it follows the journey of a butterfly girl born from the imagination. Her flight takes us across oceans, through cities and we watch her as she 'places the sun upon the horizon' and balances on the arm of a record player which soulfully scratches out the melancholic rhythm of an acoustic guitar. As she transcends the confines of the mundane and dances upon the clouds, we are reminded of the joy of our own creativity and the power of our minds.

A Brazilian soldier received orders that they were about to charge into a highly fortified German hill station during Brazil's first weeks in WW2. He clearly had nobody to turn to during these terrifying moments and decided to write his thoughts in a letter. Unbeknown to the soldier frantically scrawling his words as the bugle call rang out, it may have been that the recipient would be the only one to have already known the final outcome of the battle that was about to rage. The words of this story are based on the words penned by a genuine soldier of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force, the name of whom is unfortunately lost to time.

Louis Walsh: I've given this a great deal of thought, and, taken all things into consideration. I've decided, you're going... to hear my decision any minute now. My decision is... I'm taking you through to the final... moment when I tell you whether I'm taking you through to the final as quickly as possible. And I have decided, that you're not going to be someone... I decide to decide not to put through without a great deal of thought. You're going home... is one of the things I had considered saying to you. But, I have made my decision, and my decision is... I'm putting you through... the pain of going home, if I decide not to put you through to the final. Which, is what I'm going to decide any minute now! I'm putting you through... hell I know. But I'm afraid it's not good news... it's great news, and the great news is, you're going through to the live final!

Plot
Independent Zombie Film makers, Producer Mike Masters and Director David J. Francis, the team behind the commercially unsuccessful Zombie Night 1 and 2, have found the climate for Zombie movies has changed significantly after the "real" zombie invasion begins. Hedging on the fact that the Zombie mayhem that has taken a grip on the nation is only a temporary problem, the film makers realize that once normalcy has returned, demand for Zombie product (now outlawed) will be at an all time high. The filmmakers seize an opportunity to do something they were never able to before on their meager budgets, make a memorable zombie film. This time, however, through using real zombies, the film will have an authenticity and production value previously unattainable. They set about "bringing the gang back together" and assemble several key cast and crew members from their past productions (the ones that aren't already dead). With a full crew and a documentarian following them all the way, Masters and Francis embark on the production of their masterpiece. Film production at the best of time is wrought with peril, and for these intrepid film makers, it is no different this time around. From the challenges of safely shooting with and wrangling the hoards of untrained zombies to creative differences over what the film is ultimately to be about - the filmmakers face new challenges and production gets more precarious at every step. The entire process is documented, complete with interviews, behind the scenes footage of production meetings and shooting challenges, as the filmmakers struggle with cast and crew being eaten by their hungry zombie extras. A lack of resources to finish the film, and an increasingly high level of zombie activity cause them to reconsider their previous notion that "things will soon be back to normal." Despite it all, the filmmakers' resolve to finish the film at all costs leads them down some dangerous paths, and forcing them to make some difficult creative choices to keep the cameras rolling at all times. It's all the challenges of shooting a low budget zombie film, mixed with the perils of surviving in a Zombie infested world. Will they finish the film and get their long deserved accolades as pioneers in the Zombie film industry, or will the making of documentary be all that's left of their attempts to bring something innovative, fresh and devastatingly real to the screen?

Quotes:
Andrew Fruman: Who are some of your influences?::David J. Francis: You know, Dean Koontz. I mean, I read a couple books on screenwriting after I'd written my first script and it said you had to do this whole thing where you know you have like the lead up for the characters and development and I don't like to do that. I just like to sit down and first thing I do is I come up with a title for the movie. Like for Zombie Night 1, I just thought, hey, Zombie Night, that's a good title, so I wrote down the title.::Andrew Fruman: Do you think maybe a bit of planning might help?::David J. Francis: You can only plan so much, I mean, you gotta, if you wanna make a movie you make it. I mean you don't, you don't sit and talk about it and think about it. I mean, would Gone With the Wind have ever been made if all they did ever was talk about it. Maybe we should change this scene a little bit. Maybe, you know, maybe the kiss happens here.::Andrew Fruman: Don't you think they did do that though?
David J. Francis: Well, no, that's fine, you let the actors, uh, you know interpret it any way they want. I, I'm fine with that. That, that's a better way to do it I think. You know, let them create their own characters. I don't want to create who they're going to be, I want to create an idea of who they're going to be.
Mike Masters: No, we didn't make a cool zombie. That *is* a cool zombie. That thing's for real. It will bite you. It will kill you.
Mike Masters: A lot of people die for art, and it's art. This times it's gonna be like... a lot of people died to make another shitty zombie movie.
Mike Masters: It's so funny, you start this kind of project off and you're like "it's gonna be so much better than the last one and we're gonna do all these things different" and you know what you can do them different, but you still do them equally bad. Like, we've just found new ways to make things shit.
Sam Hall: This trilogy of movies, even for the years when we weren't working on it, somehow was sitting in the back of my brain like some kind of parasitic egg it was just slowly sucking out my ability to do anything. I blame this movie series for everything that's wrong with my life.::Stephen Papadimitriou: Well, what about the time you got laid?

McDonald's loved using the UK libel laws to suppress criticism. Major media organisations like the BBC and The Guardian crumbled and apologised. But then they sued gardener Helen Steel and postman Dave Morris. In the longest trial in English legal history, the "McLibel Two" represented themselves against McDonald's £10 million legal team. Every aspect of the corporation's business was cross-examined: from junk food and McJobs, to animal cruelty, environmental damage and advertising to children. Outside the courtroom, Dave brought up his young son alone and Helen supported herself working nights in a bar. McDonald's tried every trick in the book against them. Legal manoeuvres. A visit from Ronald McDonald. Top executives flying to London for secret settlement negotiations. Even spies. Seven years later, in February 2005, the marathon legal battle finally concluded at the European Court of Human Rights. And the result took everyone by surprise - especially the British Government. McLibel is not just about hamburgers. It is about the importance of freedom of speech now that multinational corporations are more powerful than countries. Filmed over ten years by no-budget Director Franny Armstrong, McLibel is the David and Goliath story of two people who refused to say sorry. And in doing so, changed the world.

Seeing Red (2005)
Actors
Plot
In Seeing Red, three elements run parallel, overlap, diverge, lock horns and in various other ways give voice to the notion that a color, a melody, or a person has multiple characteristics that cannot be grasped by, or understood within, a simple framework. One element is purely visual. One is very verbal and minimally visual. One is purely musical. So is red the color of a fire truck or a ruby, of rust or a rose, of blood or a brick? How fixed is a melody if it can be twisted, stretched and shaken to the point where we no longer recognize its original form? And when we "see red," what color is that exactly? What aspect of passion are we feeling? Are we looking outward and seeing injustice and cupidity, or looking inward at our own limitations and failings?

The Most Daring Rescue Mission Of Our Time Is A Story That Has Never Been Told.
Quotes:
General Kreuger: Henry, I'll be honest with you. This mission appeals more to my heart than to my head.
Lt. Colonel Mucci: I'm here to tell you men the latrine rumors are true. We finally got a mission worthy of Rangers. We're going to push through our frontlines right into the Japs' backyard and rescue 500 hundred American prisoners of war. Goin' to be a rough son of a bitch- a textbook-style raid that can only succeed through speed, surprise, and overwhelming firepower. Before you start congratulating yourselves, remember you haven't achieved a damn thing yet. You're the best-trained, least-proven battalion in this whole army. This is your one chance to do something about it, and I mean ONE chance. How you acquit yourselves over the next 48 hours will determine how you are judged for the rest of your lives- men worthy of serving in this army... or... an embarrassment that history and time will eventually forget. It's up to you. Now, I happen to think it's the former. That's why I'm accompanying you on this raid. There's not another group of men in this or any other army I'd sooner trust my life with. You're the finest, best-prepared soldiers this country has ever sent to war, and I expect you to PROVE it... IS THAT CLEAR?::6th Ranger Battalion: YES, SIR!
1st Sgt. Sid "Top" Wojo: Sir, it's your shot.
Captain Prince: Somethings you just have to take on faith.
Lt. Colonel Mucci: Captain Prince, how did we do?::Captain Prince: Got 'em all sir.
Lt. Colonel Mucci: General, this is the man who led the raid... Captain Prince.::General Kreuger: Congratulations, soldier. I'm very sorry for your losses, but I want to let you know you men have done a great service to your country.::Captain Prince: Thank you, sir.
[Japanese have just fired mortar shells at the escaping troops and POW's]::Captain Prince: Get a base of fire on the *Son of a bitch*!
[last lines]::Captain Prince: Never in our history have such a large group of men endured so much and complained so little. Many couldn't shake the fact that their country had abandoned them, left them to die in a foreign land. It was said to be of no significance to the war effort, but for me, it meant everything. It's true, they had been left behind, but never forgotten.
Major Lapham: I've been thinking for the last three years of all the things I want to say to her.
Cpl. Aliteri: [about a piece of paper with the Virgin Mary on it] Six bucks.::Cpl. Guttierez: Told you I can't sell it.::Cpl. Aliteri: Ten bucks?::Cpl. Guttierez: I can't do it. It's the only one I got.::Cpl. Aliteri: What do you mean it's the only one you got? You said you had plenty to spare.::Cpl. Guttierez: Lied to you. My mom gave this to me.::Cpl. Guttierez: [Kisses it]::Cpl. Aliteri: Well how does your mom feel about ten bucks?::Cpl. Guttierez: [Almost punches him] Wonder how your mom feels about ten bucks?::Cpl. Aliteri: Hey!

Plot
Consummate entertainer Bobby Darin (1936-1973) is making a movie about his life. He's volatile, driven by the love of performing, ambition, perfectionism, and belief that he's living on borrowed time. He begins in the Bronx: a fatherless lad learning music and dance from his mom. His career starts slowly, then "Splish Splash" puts him at the top of the charts and on "Bandstand." He wants to be an entertainer, not a pop star, so he aims for the Copacabana; then it's on to the movies, where he meets and marries Sandra Dee. After, it's balancing career, health, marriage and family life, balances he doesn't always keep. Throughout, conversations with his boyhood self give him perspective.

Bobby Darin: No matter what happens, baby, you'll always be Sandra Dee.
Bobby Darin: Memories are like moonbeams, we do with them what we will.
Bobby Darin: You're gonna be easy to love.
Bobby Darin: It's OK, I'm not gonna hurt you. Watch. My momma used to tell me a story when I was a kid that in the Middle Ages, one of the knights in King Arthur's court, he laid down his sword between himself and Guinevere, and he promised that he would never cross over to the other side.::Sandra Dee: Really?::Bobby Darin: I am laying down this sword between us. That's my side of the bed, and that's yours, and I will never cross over. Ever. I don't care if we don't touch for a thousand nights. Only you can cross over to my side. Only you.
Bobby Darin: [after losing the Oscar] Melvyn Douglas is married to a Congress woman and I'm married to Tammy.::Sandra Dee: Well, it took 40 years for Melvyn Douglas to get a supporting actor's face. You should be happy you did in just two.
Bobby Darin: [trying to date Sandra Dee] I want to send 18 yellow roses every day to Mary.::Charlie Maffia: You wanna send roses to the mother?::Bobby Darin: Charlie, you always make sure the mama dog likes you before you go near her puppy.

Quotes:
Elliot: You know, I still can't picture you two having sex.::Paula: Oh, wait a minute! You can't picture me *making love* with my successful, clean-shaven husband, who wears Paul Stuart suits, but you can see me jumping into bed with a guy that I have to lend money to, pay alimony to, who hasn't washed that tee-shirt since, like, Christmas?::Elliot: Chanukah.::George: See you, Elliot.::Paula: See you, George. [George leaves]::Elliot: Bet he never gave you eight orgasms.::Paula: Oh Elliot, when are you going to realize sex is only part of a well-integrated life? Besides, half of those were faked.::Elliot: Four is not so bad!
Elliot: [to gay son Danny] So, ummm: Pussy! What d'ya say?::Danny: Uhhh...::Elliot: Danny, pussy's not so bad. Just like an asshole, it's smooth, it's silky, AND... it doesn't chafe.::Danny: You seem to know a lot about assholes, Pop.::Elliot: Been one all my life.
Elliot: [reading from his printed leaflet] Okay: The Losingest Loser Bares All. I have an unusually small penis. And while it's okay walking around my bedroom, it's hell in a locker room.
Elliot: [reading from his printed leaflet] That was right about the time my beautiful wife Paula was leaving me for the architect who designed the house we could no longer afford. A handsome, athletic man with a six-figure income and a pleasant, respectful manner. [pause] I know I'll never get over loving her for the rest of my life.
Elliot: [reading from his printed leaflet] So here I am, gang - kicked out of a job and a house, scrounging from my mom, my ex-wife, my son, and guess what: my oldest friend Richard is coming to town, and I beg him to stay with me. Richard has kept his hair, his looks, his money; and pretty much runs Hollywood. You'd think he wouldn't have the time of day for his old buddies back East. You know, he's never once turned his back on me. Not once. Always kind, totally open, lends me money, and never asks for it back. And how do I reciprocate that kind of generosity and friendship? Well to this day I'v hidden a little secret from Richard. In college, when I was dating Allison, before he stole her from me, I fucked the lovely Allison, up the ass, when we had gotten drunk on a pitcher full of frozen strawberry daiquiris, and she came with the most intense shudder I have ever felt. Richard, Richard has kissed my wife, french-kissed her way back when, but he didn't butt-fuck her, like I did his. And I'm so ashamed that I've never told him this before. So there you have it. Elliot Kellman, biggest loser of them all.::Richard: Y'know Elliot, how I said that, uh, nothing much ever happened between me and Paula? Well she must've sucked me off a dozen times in the pantry while Allison was playing Legos with the kids in the den. And you, you were outside by the barbecue, making your crummy, lousy, tasteless, overcooked ersatz-mesquite chicken.

Plot
The year is 1816, and NAPOLEON, held prisoner by the British on the island of St. Helena, is telling the young English girl BETSY his life story. His meteoric rise to military prominence begins with his victory over the Royalists in 1795, which is followed by campaigns in Italy and Egypt. He marries the young and capricious JOSEPHINE DE BEAUHARNAIS, the love of his life, who unfortunately cannot bear him any children. After a coup d'état he seizes power in France and crowns himself Emperor of the French in 1804. After his decisive victory at Austerlitz, Napoleon reorganizes Europe and makes his relatives into princes and kings. Continuing resistance by the Spanish results in some initial losses, however. Meanwhile, Napoleon is increasingly fascinated by other women, including the Polish patriot MARIA WALEWSKA, who bears him a son. Napoleon intends to found an imperial dynasty, however, to strengthen his position. After divorcing Josephine, he marries the Austrian princess MARIE-LUISE, who gives birth to an imperial heir. Napoleon's attempt to bring the Czar of Russia to his knees results in a massive catastrophe for his army, and prompts the European powers to form an alliance against him. In 1814 he is defeated in the Campaign of France, and is exiled to the island of Elba. Napoleon gathers all his strength one more time, however, returns to France and wins the hearts of its people again. With a new army he goes into battle against the Allies in 1815 at Waterloo.

An epic life.
He was a master of war and peace. His struggle was with love.
Quotes:
Charles Talleyrand: Well, Marquis, how is this little mission of ours going? We've prepared the ground successfully, I hope?::Marquis de Caulaincourt: Well, I've been preparing balls, concerts, banquets, hunting parties, firework displays... The Emperor wants to dazzle the Czar with a display of his power. His Majesty says nothing helps negotiations more, especially with a man as civilized as Alexander.::Charles Talleyrand: Yes, well, the sovereign of Russia may very well be civilized, but his people are not. In France, of course, it's the other way round.
British Officer: He won't open if you call him General, Sir. He insists on being called by his title.::Hudson Lowe: Title? Emperor? Majesty? Poppycock. He's Bony the Ogre, and always will be. Knock again!
Napoléon: The English are calling upon my men to desert by flooding our lines with this drivel. It'll have no effect on them!::Maréchal Joachim Murat: I'm not so sure. The men have had enough. Most of the time we have to force them to obey!::Napoléon: Have the officers discipline them again. That's why they're here.::Maréchal Joachim Murat: The officers, they say that you torture your soldiers, and that you will never be able to seize Egypt.::Napoléon: I have, Murat, Egypt is ours, almost ours. Cairo is a French city. The Nile Delta has been pacified, and all there is left to subjugate a few Turkish regiments.::Maréchal Joachim Murat: Turks and Arabs, supported by the English. Be realistic, Bonaparte. We can't go on, especially with the plague on our heels.::Napoléon: The doctors assured me that the epidemic could be contained.::Maréchal Joachim Murat: The doctors can do nothing against fear.::Napoléon: I can.
Napoléon: Let me do this, I need you.::Plagued French Soldier: But General, I can't do anything more for you, I'm dying.::Napoléon: Precisely.
Joseph Bonaparte: Listen, listen to them! Just say the word, and you'll have twenty five million French citizens behind you!::Napoléon: Right now, I'm hungry.
Caroline Bonaparte: I'm here to bring you Murat's support.::Napoléon: Murat? Who authorized you to speak for Murat?::Caroline Bonaparte: He and I love each other.::Napoléon: Murat is over 30, and you're not yet 20. I don't think our mother will approve. I don't think I will approve!
Sieyes: My dear fellow, politics isn't war. It takes much longer to say something meaningless, than to fire a gun.
Napoléon: How should I address you? Monsignor, since you were a bishop, Your Excellency because the Revolution made you ambassador to England, or Minister because you are in charge of France's foreign relations?::Charles Talleyrand: Most people call me Talleyrand. Just Talleyrand.::Napoléon: Ah, yes, like just "God"?::Charles Talleyrand: Or Satan.
Lucien: The deputies have dissolved the Directory. In its place, they have created an executive consular commission, composed of General Bonaparte, and citizens Sieyes and Roger Ducos, who will bear the titles of Citizens and Consuls of the French Republic. This decree will take place. Officers, present arms to the Consuls of the Republic! Long live Bonaparte!
French Soldier: How would you like to approach this, Monsieur?::Marquis de Caulaincourt: With style, and good manners. We shall knock politely on the front door.::French Soldier: And what if he doesn't open it?::Marquis de Caulaincourt: In that case, I regret, I shall be obliged to ask you to barrel it down.

Mia Thermopolis is the average teenager - sweet, a little geeky and pretty much invisible to everyone with the exception of her mother, best friend Lilly and Lilly's older brother Michael. Making it through high school without throwing up is a challenge in itself for Mia, so it doesn't come as welcome news when her estranged grandmother shows up out of the blue and calmly informs her that she is in fact the heir to the throne of a European country called Genovia. Suddenly Mia's life is thrown into complete overload. She's being taught about scarves, waves and pears in order to become a perfect princess, she gets a makeover and a tough looking yet sweet bodyguard/limo driver called Joe. Things get out of hand when the media gets a hold of the story and suddenly Mia is thrust into the spotlight in both the newspapers and in school. On top of all that Mia has a choice to make. She must decide by Genovia's Independence Day Ball whether she longs to relinquish her claim on the throne or to become the princess and heir to the throne and father and grandmother want her to be.

Lilly: Michael, can you please pretend you have a life for just one moment?
Lilly: The student body may be morally bankrupt, but that doesn't mean they're blind!
Paolo: [removes Mia's glasses] Do you wear contact lenses?::Mia: Oh, I have them, but I don't like to wear them.::Paolo: Now...::[he breaks her glasses in half]::Paolo: ...you do.::Mia: [shocked] You broke my glasses!::Paolo: You broke my brush.
Queen Clarisse Renaldi: So, where are you taking me?::Mia: Well, uh, do you have any change?::Queen Clarisse Renaldi: No. It's not appropriate for royalty to jingle.::Mia: Okay, I'll get the change. [cuts to a game arcade]
Joe: This is between a waltz and a tango.::Mia: It's a wango?
Queen Clarisse Renaldi: Amelia, you look so... young.::Mia: Thank you. And you look so... [long pause]... clean.
Michael: Why me?::Mia: Because you saw me when I was invisible.
Mia: Okay... you know what? I don't feel protected. You try living for 15 years thinking that you're one person, and then in five minutes, you find out you're a princess. Just in case I wasn't enough of a freak already, let's add a tiara!
Joe: I have never worn pantyhose but it sounds very dangerous.
Mia: I don't want to rule my own country, I just want to pass the tenth grade.

Quotes:
Jody Sawyer: She's so good.::Eva: Yeah, just ask her.
Maureen Cummings: I am the best goddamn dancer in the American Ballet Academy. Who the hell are you? Nobody.
[In pas de deux class]::Sergei: I am your slave.::Eva Rodriguez: I'd believe it more if you weren't staring at your fucking reflection when you said it.::Instructor: If someone wants to hear profanity, Miss Rodriguez, they can take a subway. They don't need to spend sixty dollars on a ballet ticket.::[to Sergei]::Instructor: Though she has a point.
Maureen Cummings: Erik got injured today. And do you know the first thing I thought when I saw him go down?::Jim Gordon: What?::Maureen Cummings: "I wish that was me." So that made me think, you know, 'cause that's not a normal reaction. How much of what you liked about me was because I was a ballet dancer, and how much because I was me?
Eva Rodriguez: I screwed up any chance I had back in September. But I started dancing long before this stupid workshop, and I'm gonna keep on dancing long after it. So tomorrow is one more day I get to dance.
Anna: Did you see how *on* I was tonight?
Jody Sawyer: Mom. Oh, I'm so happy you guys are here.::Mr. Sawyer: We wanted to see what you've been up to this past year. And I've gotta tell you, that was the most fantastic thing I've ever seen.::Mrs. Sawyer: It was great, honey. And just - just wonderful.::Jody Sawyer: You wanna know something stupid? I'd actually started to believe I didn't need to hear that anymore.
Eva Rodriguez: A girl's got a right to know what kind of hound she's saving herself for.
Jody: Cooper, you're an amazing dancer, and you're a great choreographer, but as a boyfriend... you kinda suck.
Eva Rodriguez: Truth? In terms of technique, you are behind. But the people here know what they're looking for. And on the day of you audition, they saw it. In you.::Jody Sawyer: Now all they see is the wrong body type.

She applies and is accepted into an exchange program between Quebec and West Africa. When she reaches her Quebec destination, a pig farm, she encounters, Sylvie Leblanc, a woman in need of change, her husband, Luc Leblanc, a man afraid of change and Abdoulaye Diallo, her African exchange counter-part, a man who regrets his decision to seek change. Based on 1992 journals of Bosnian visual artist Alma Hajric who was forced into a basement shelter to survive the siege of Sarajevo, Black Kites is the outcome of a chance encounter between Hajric and filmmaker-choreographer Andres. Focusing on Hajric's inner landscape, it skillfully merges reality-based content with interpretive visual material to reveal the simple, sometimes beautiful, yet brutal truth of her existence. Non-linear, dreamlike and spectral, Black Kites is a testament to artistry, imagination and the resiliency of the human psyche.

Crazy Crosswords (1994)
Actors
Plot
A disorganized game show that featured on Community Television Channel BRIZ 31 in Brisbane, Australia between 1994 and 1995. Two teams of two people made up the contestants who would have to buzz in with answers to crossword clues read out by the host, Steel Jensen. If the correct answer was given, the co-host, Velvet, would write the answer on a white board made up to look like a giant crossword puzzle. For each correct answer given, the host would throw a ping-pong ball at the team, who would put this in their basket as a form of scoring. The hosts were actors, thus their real names were not used in the program. The 1995 series saw a change of cast fronted by comedian Jonathan Atherton, which further added to the crazy shenanigans of the program, not to mention the appearance of special guests such as "Eugene", and Bhutros Bhutros Bhutros Galic, played by another comedian, Akmal Saleh. Craziness aside, the contestants did walk away with prizes at the end of the show - packets of nuts for the losers, and a range of theme park and other entry passes for the winners. Originally screening 7pm weeknights in direct competition with Sale of the Century, the show may not have been near as expensive to produce, but is certainly good for a laugh, even when watching repeats over a decade after its premiere.

Rules of the Road (1993)
Actors
Plot
Rules of the Road tells the story of a love affair and its demise through one of the primary objects shared by the couple: an old beige station wagon with fake wood paneling along the sides. A typical American family car for an atypical American family, it provides the women at first with all the familiar comforts. But when their relationship ends, the car becomes the property of one woman and the bane of the other's existence. Even long after their separation, this tangible reminder of their life together--and thousands of its imitators--continues to prowl the streets of the city, haunting the woman who no longer holds the keys either to the car or the other woman's heart. Rules of the Road is also study in theme and variations. In this case, the theme is the standard wagon. The variations are a consequence of experience, which transforms the object and makes us continually invest it with new meanings. This sense of constant change happens during the course of the film just as surely as it happens to us in our daily lives. Through spoken text, popular music and images from the streets of New York, Rules of the Road takes a somewhat whimsical, somewhat caustic look at how our dreams of freedom, pleasure, security, and family are so often symbolized by the automobile.

Damned If You Don't (1987)
Actors
Plot
"Damned If You Don't is a real prize. Beautifully shot in black and white, it blends conventional narrative technique with impressionistic camerawork, symbols and voicovers to create an intimate study of sexual expression and repression. It begins with footage from a stylish old potboiler about an isolated convent, whose tale of passions leashed and unleashed provides the leitmotif for a young lesbian who watches it and the lonely nun she pursues and seduces. As the two women's lives come closer to joining, voiceovers from the biography of a 16th century lesbian nun and the reminiscences of a woman's closeted romances at a Catholic school flesh out the theme. When the two women finally meet and make love, the woman's careful unwrapping of the nun's complicated prison of clothing is both foreplay and liberating metaphor. The film is as hypnotic as a dream."

Plot
It is late 1953. Poet Dylan Thomas is visiting the US to give a series of readings of his work, and to write the libretto of an opera for the composer Stravinsky in California. Exhausted and suffering from writers' block Thomas is desperate for the money the tour will earn for him. He is drinking heavily and his behaviour becomes increasingly unreliable and erratic as the tour progresses. He is also pursuing a guilt-ridden affair with Liz Reitel. In flashback we see the story of Thomas's early life, including his relationship with his stern father D J Thomas. The deal with Stravinsky falls through and Thomas returns to New York. His drinking is now out of control and he collapses after drinking "eighteen straight whiskies". A doctor administers an injection of morphine and Thomas falls into a coma and does not recover.
