This is the 40th music video I've directed (actually, technically my 41st, but one video hasn't come out yet), and I'm happy that magical number goes to Sandwich. I've made 4 music vids for them in my life, each one a landmark experience. music video #1 was for "Food For The Soul." It was my 2nd music video of all time, but the first one I directed all by my lonesome. Raimund asked me to do this after the whole "Maskara" experience, and it was also amazing because I had the girls from Fatal Posporos to be my Assistant Director and my Production Manager! music video #2 was for "Sugod." I remember it was Christmas break and I was in Baguio when I started conceptualizing for this. The band wanted directors to pitch ideas for both "Sugod" and "Sunburn" before the album came out, and I was the ONLY person to pitch for "Sugod," so I guess I won the vid by default. Trivia: it wasn't meant to be a 100% performance video. We shot a narrative involving Bowling (inspired by the Baguio Country Club duckpins and The Big Lebowski AND guest-starring members of Cambio, Itchyworms, and Pedicab), but it got chopped after we saw how frickin' fun the band shots were. music video #3 was for "DVD-X." It was the first time I got to use an HD camera (the Panasonic P2) and I wanted to use the slow motion function on a band who were great performers. We shot during typhoon Milenyo and it was a harrowing experience wherein I was PRAYING that someone would not get hurt during the shoot in this ice plant (via electrocutions, chemical-related injuries, gun-related injuries, falling down the door-less elevator shafts, etc.). But, it was all worth it. This is music video #4, off the "Contra Tiempo" album, Polyeast Records. Contrary to how it looks, we had permits for everything. This is the first chase scene I've directed, and it was fun all the way. Once the band members were in costume, that was it.
