Lamont Coleman (May 30, 1974 – February 15, 1999), best known by his stage name Big L, was an American hip hop recording artist, born and raised in Harlem, New York City, New York. Coleman embarked on his career in rapping, with the hip hop trio, Three the Hard Way. His first notable appearance came on Lord Finesse's "Yes You May (Remix)". Coleman released his debut album, Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous, in 1995 and significantly contributed to the underground hip hop scene. In 1998, he founded Flamboyant Entertainment, his own indie label, through which he released one of his most popular singles, "Ebonics" (1998).
On February 15, 1999, Coleman was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in his native Harlem. His second studio album, The Big Picture, was put together by Coleman's manager, Rich King, and released posthumously the following year. It was eventually certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Lord Finesse (born Robert Hall, Jr.; February 19, 1970) is a hip-hop artist and producer, from The Bronx, New York, best known as the leader of the D.I.T.C. crew. About.com ranked him number 29 on its list of the Top-50 Hip-Hop Producers.
In 1989, Finesse and his former partner DJ Mike Smooth signed with Wild Pitch Records, home of other popular hip hop artists such as Gang Starr, Main Source, Chill Rob G, Percee P and O.C. In 1990, the duo released their debut album Funky Technician. The album featured production from future star beat-makers DJ Premier, Diamond D and Showbiz. Soon after, Finesse formed the popular New York underground crew D.I.T.C., an acronym for "Diggin In The Crates", together with Showbiz & A.G. and Diamond D. Future members included Fat Joe, O.C., Buckwild, and Big L.
Finesse returned as a solo artist in early 1992 with his second effort, Return of the Funky Man. The album featured guest appearances from Percee P and AG. The album's title track peaked at number 13 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. Return of the Funky Man also included a couple of songs that were produced by Finesse himself, and this would be the start of a career as a much respected hip-hop producer. In 1994 Finesse made a production appearance on The Notorious B.I.G.'s classic debut Ready to Die, on the track "Suicidal Thoughts". In 1995, he produced a big portion of Big L's debut album Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous, including the single "M.V.P." and made an appearance on one of the album's highlight songs "Da Graveyard". He returned as an artist in 1996 with the now rare 12" single "Check The Method" and then the acclaimed album The Awakening. Finesse produced the entire album himself, and enlisted a large number of guests, including KRS-One, MC Lyte, Akinyele, Diamond D, Showbiz & A.G., O.C. and Kid Capri. The underground single "Actual Facts" featuring Sadat X, Large Professor and Grand Puba, was included as a hidden track on the album.
Diamond D (born Joseph Kirkland; April 5, 1969) is a hip hop producer and MC from the Bronx, New York City, and one of the founding members of the Diggin' in the Crates Crew.
Joseph Antonio Cartagena (born August 19, 1970), better known by his stage name Fat Joe, is an American rapper. He is also the CEO of Terror Squad Entertainment, and member of musical groups D.I.T.C. and Terror Squad.
Fat Joe's debut album was Represent, released in 1993, followed by Jealous One's Envy in 1995. From 1998 to 2006, he was signed to Atlantic Records, releasing four albums under the label, Don Cartagena in 1998, Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.) in 2001, Loyalty in 2002, and All or Nothing in 2005. Around the release of All or Nothing, Fat Joe became involved in a highly publicized feud with another New York City-based rapper 50 Cent, who attacked Fat Joe in his song "Piggy Bank". His most popular song in which he performed was his Remy Ma duet "Lean Back" with Terror Squad. The song was a number-one hit in the summer of 2004.
Starting in 2006, when his album Me, Myself, & I was released, Fat Joe was signed to Imperial Records, which distributes through Terror Squad Entertainment. His follow up album was The Elephant in the Room, which was released in 2008; Jealous Ones Still Envy 2 (J.O.S.E. 2), the sequel to Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.), was released in October 2009. His tenth album The Darkside Vol. 1 was released on July 27, 2010.

D.I.T.C. (Lord Finesse, O.C., A.G., Diamond D, Boogie Blind - 100 min interview (2010, Poland, Popkiller.pl) Our incredibly long videointerview with the legendary Diggin In The Crates crew is something that I'm really proud of. I've had an opportunity to talk with a lot of great artists but this interview is still the biggest thing. Being able to talk for 100 minutes with your favourite rap group and ask them about nearly everything? Priceless. Part 1 (0:00:01-0:15:22): - Expectations about the show in Poland - Thoughts about today's New York rap and its crisis - Their biggest musical achievement - Differences between being number 1 and 2 - Why DJ's nowadays can't do what they want to? Why does radio hypnotize people? - Who makes records and who makes music? Part 2 (0:15:22-0:32:27): - W...

Harlem producer Ron Browz sat down with VladTV to describe how he got started producing music for legends like Big L and Nas. Signed to an independent label at 12 years old, Ron Browz taught himself to make beats and got a little lucky when he ran into Big L on the street in Harlem. A personal and professional relationship developed, and Ron ultimately was the man behind the song "Ebonics." Ron Browz goes on to talk about the Roc-A-Fella deal that was supposed to happen with Big L, and Big L's legacy and death. Watch above.

Most people who know Lord Finesse knows him for the great work he has done as a DJ, a lyricist, and dope promoter and the person solely responsible for bringing out the late great rapper BIG L. He explains how he met him and why he decided to work with him.

Big L aka Lamont Coleman is one of the best MC's ever, even Nas admits he didn't know how to complete with L. This is just a snippet of an interview with Tim Westwood talking about his 1995 album "lifestylez ov da poor and dangerous" and quite rightly Big L tells Westwood... "When you're poor. You're dangerous!". Talks about how he got his name. RIP BIG L.
SUBSCRIBE: http://www.youtube.com/MrMcCruddenMichael Growing up in a violent area of Harlem, BIG L was surrounded by guns, gangs and violence. A lot of young men in his neighbourhood used the street corners to sell drugs, he used them to sharpen his freestyle skills by challenging others to rap battles. His talent and boldness would lead to him to be taken in by some of the most exciting underground rap artists in New York and eventually he would sign with Columbia Records, only to drop them after his first album release.

Short playlist of some of my favorite Big L featured verses and songs. R.I.P. Big L is one of the best rappers of all time who's talent is often overshadowed and overlooked by casual hip hop fans due to the deaths of Biggie and 2pac which occurred in the same era. This playlist is comprised primarily of tracks that he did with other rappers. Other than "Ebonics" none of these tracks appear on any of his albums so I felt they needed to be highlighted. Track Listing 1. D.I.T.C. Ft. Big L - Internationally Known 2. Big L - Put It On (Rare Remix) 3. D.I.T.C. Ft. Big L - All Love 4. O.C. Ft. Big L - Dangerous 5. D.I.T.C. Ft. Big L - Day One 6.
