Italy (i/ˈɪtəli/; Italian: Italia [iˈtaːlja]), officially the Italian Republic (Italian: Repubblica Italiana), is a unitary parliamentary republic in Europe. Italy covers an area of 301,338 km2 (116,347 sq mi) and has a largely Mediterranean and temperate climate; due to its shape, it is often referred to in Italy as lo Stivale (the Boot). With 61 million inhabitants, it is the 4th most populous EU member state. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Italy shares open land borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, San Marino and Vatican City.
Since ancient times, Greeks, Etruscans and Celts have inhabited the south, centre and north of the Italian Peninsula respectively. Rome ultimately emerged as the dominant power, conquering much of the ancient world and becoming the leading cultural, political, and religious centre of Western civilisation. The legacy of the Roman Empire is widespread and can be observed in the global distribution of civilian law, Republican governments, Christianity and the latin script.
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, more commonly Leonardo da Vinci (Italian: [leoˈnardo da (v)ˈvintʃi]; 15 April 1452 – 2 May 1519), was an Italian polymath whose areas of interest included invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography. He has been variously called the father of paleontology, ichnology, and architecture, and is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. Sometimes credited with the inventions of the parachute, helicopter and tank, his genius epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal.
Many historians and scholars regard Leonardo as the prime exemplar of the "Universal Genius" or "Renaissance Man", an individual of "unquenchable curiosity" and "feverishly inventive imagination". According to art historian Helen Gardner, the scope and depth of his interests were without precedent in recorded history, and "his mind and personality seem to us superhuman, while the man himself mysterious and remote". Marco Rosci, however, notes that while there is much speculation regarding his life and personality, his view of the world was logical rather than mysterious, and that the empirical methods he employed were unorthodox for his time.
You can see the beautiful environment Leonardo grew up in. No wonder he was able to do some deep thinking. I thought I would post a few more Italy trip videos just for the pleasure of seeing how beautiful Italy really is. There is a good reason why everyone should want to visit here at least once in their life.
A quick visit to the ancient village of Vinci, Italy, birthplace of Leonardo.
I'm back from Italy and just had to share a few of the wonderful sights I experienced before I get back to playing the blues. This is the home town of Leonardo da Vinci. I always thought that was his name but it actually means Leonardo of Vinci. He was born in 1452 in Vinci. We also went to his house which is just a little walk from the museum. I am at the top of the museum tower. It is one of the most beautiful views I have seen and had to be an inspiration to the great thinker. I will post another video of his home which is very short. I may share a couple of more videos from Italy before I get back to the blues.

The birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci is in Anchiano, a village near Vinci (Tuscany Italy). It`s a large stone house with three rooms and a huge fireplace. Outside was a wood oven for bread. Inside we were not allowed to take pictures, but there wasn`t much to photograph because the rooms were empty. Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (15 April 1452 – 2 May 1519) was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. His genius, perhaps more than that of any other figure, epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal. Born out of wedlock to a notary, Piero da Vinci, and a peasant woman, Caterina, in Vinci in the region of Florence, Leonardo was educated in the studio of the renowned Flo...

As legend has it, Rome, Italy, was founded by the twin brothers, Romulus and Remus, in 700 B.C. The former Caput Mundi, or Capital of the World, sits beneath Palatine Hill, where the ruins of its original incarnation are open for exploration. No Rome tour is complete without stopping by the remains of the Temple of Saturn and Arch of Septimus, both located in the Roman Forum. Get in touch with your inner gladiator and stop by the Colosseum, a relic of Roman bloodsports and perhaps the most recognizable element of the city. Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure you’ll return to Rome one day; don’t toss in two coins unless you’re ready to fall in love with a Roman. Continue your Rome sightseeing in St. Peter’s Square, home of St. Peter’s Basilica. The world’s largest church, design...

After the fall of Rome, Italy slowly fell into a dark sleep. It wasn't until the 11th century when the Holy Roman Empire loosened its grip on Italy, that it reawakened. Autonomous city-states emerged, and though ravaged by waves of the plague, these tiny republics began to revitalize their cities and build on a massive level not witnessed since the rise of the Rome. In the late 15th and 16th centuries, alliances among various city-states continually shifted as foreign superpowers tried to sink their claws into Italy. France, Spain, and the Holy Roman Empire fought out their battles with each other on Italian soil, while the threat of the Turks lurked off the shores of Venice. The masters who are most known for creating the works of art and architecture of the Renaissance, were also the gr...

Leonardo da Vinci Born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy, Leonardo da Vinci was the son of a prominent attorney notary and a young peasant girl. Born out of wedlock, he was raised by his father, Ser Piero, and several stepmothers. His early years were spent living on his father’s family estate in Vinci. During this period of his life, he was also influenced by his uncle, who had a love of nature and had a hand in rearing him during his formative years. Beyond basic reading, writing and mathematical skills, da Vinci did not receive much of a formal education. Recognizing his potential as an artist, his father sent him at the age of 14 or 15 to apprentice with sculptor and painter Andrea del Verrocchio of Florence. He spent six years honing his technical skills, including metalworking, leat...
Subscribe to Naked Science - http://goo.gl/wpc2Q1 Every other Wednesday we present a new video, so join us to see the truth laid bare... The origins of the Shroud of Turin and its image are the subject of intense debate among theologians, historians and researchers. Believers think this is the death shroud of Jesus Christ, but carbon dating says it’s a fake. For decades science has failed to discover how the bloody image of a man formed on its cloth. A controversial theory says it could be the work of one of the world’s greatest artists. Could the most outrageous hoax of all time be the work of Leonardo da Vinci? The faint and ghostly image of a slaughtered man on a sheet of linen. Blood and sweat stain the cloth, horrific wounds cover his back, puncture marks scar his hands and ch...

Finney was a fighter
He had both feet on the ground
He was a regular guy just like you and me
But Finney's change of fortune
Waited just around the corner
He was just about to meet his destiny
Well, they picked him off the streets
And put him straight into the light
Said we're gonna name
The series after you
We're gonna show them
How a loser turned into a winner
Go on Finney, show 'em what you can do
Well it all went as planned
He was an overnight success
And year after year
Was filled with promise
He had all that he required
But it wasn't all his heart desired
And he sometimes found it hard
Just being honest
Fame is fortune's prison
It's so easy getting in
But it's a different story
Trying to change direction
So Finney turned to drinking
And he started his downhill slide
Just another lost to add to life's collection
And of course they all put Finney down
Said he'd lost all his ambition
But to me he was a giant among men
For out of all his heartache
And his see-through reputation
Finney just wanted to be Finney again
La la la …
