Burano was mere a fishing village in the 16th century. However, during the subsequent two hundred years its women developed a fine, delicate form of lace known as "punto in aria" ("points in the air") which transformed the island into one of the most prosperous lacemaking centres in Europe.
In the center of the island there is the San Martino church.

Urodził się w rodzinie należącej do romskiej grupy Lowarów. Występować zaczął w wieku 6 lat (ok. 1950 r.) w kierowanym przez ojca zespole Cyganów mołdawskich (Zespół Pieśni i Tańca Cyganów Mołdawskich).
Podczas trasy koncertowej po Polsce w 1952 roku, rodzina postanowiła osiedlić się w okolicach Lublina.
Stamtąd Wasyl wyjechał do Gdańska, gdzie dostrzegł go Franciszek Walicki. Występy zaczął z grupą Rythm and Blues w roku 1959. Wtedy też przyjął pseudonim artystyczny Burano (po romsku "burza").
Jego kariera zaczęła się od występów z zespołami Czerwono-Czarni, którego był solistą w latach 1960-1963, a później Niebiesko-Czarni (1963-1966).
W grudniu 1963 roku został zaproszony do paryskiej Olympii, gdzie występował ze swym zespołem jako pierwszy artysta zza żelaznej kurtyny. Razem z Niebiesko-Czarnymi odniósł spory sukces na kilku festiwalach muzycznych we Francji. Burano (pod pseudonimem Steve Luca) nagrywał płyty dla wytwórni RCA.
W marcu 1968 roku wrócił do Polski i zaczął eksperymentować z własną formacją Burano & leske Rom. Zespół okazał się wielkim sukcesem i zyskał sporą popularność.
W październiku 1968 roku Burano wyjechał do Francji, gdzie kontynuował karierę pod nowym pseudonimem John Mike Arlow. Dla wytwórni Barclay nagrał m.in. "My Sweet Angel", "Go Ami Go", "My Obsession", "Smile Your Tears Away", "Bessie" i "Geloso".
W 1975 roku Burano przeniósł się do Los Angeles i tam założył własną wytwórnię płytową pod nazwą Arlow Land. W tym samym roku wrócił na krótko do Polski.
Ostatni raz w kraju wystąpił na Międzynarodowym Festiwalu Piosenki w Sopocie w 1986 roku. Obecnie mieszka w USA.

Burano
Burano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy; like Venice itself, it could more correctly be called an archipelago of four islands linked by bridges. It is situated near Torcello at the northern end of the Lagoon, and is known for its work and brightly coloured homes.
Geography
Burano is situated 7 kilometres (4 miles) from Venice, a 40-minute trip by Venetian motorboats, "vaporetti".
The island is linked to Mazzorbo by a bridge. The current population of Burano is about 2,800. Originally, there were five islands and a fourth canal that was filled to become via e piazza Baldassare Galuppi, joining the former islands of San Martino Destra and San Martino Sinistra.
Burano has historically been subdivided into five sestieri, much like the historical center of Venice. They correspond to the five original islands. The sixth sestiere is neighboring Mazzorbo.
Burano has a high population density, calculated at more than 13,000 per square kilometer, or more than twenty times the density of neighboring Mazzorbo. It is almost entirely covered by residential buildings, with few small green areas.

Urodził się w rodzinie należącej do romskiej grupy Lowarów. Występować zaczął w wieku 6 lat (ok. 1950 r.) w kierowanym przez ojca zespole Cyganów mołdawskich (Zespół Pieśni i Tańca Cyganów Mołdawskich).
Podczas trasy koncertowej po Polsce w 1952 roku, rodzina postanowiła osiedlić się w okolicach Lublina.
Stamtąd Wasyl wyjechał do Gdańska, gdzie dostrzegł go Franciszek Walicki. Występy zaczął z grupą Rythm and Blues w roku 1959. Wtedy też przyjął pseudonim artystyczny Burano (po romsku "burza").
Jego kariera zaczęła się od występów z zespołami Czerwono-Czarni, którego był solistą w latach 1960-1963, a później Niebiesko-Czarni (1963-1966).
W grudniu 1963 roku został zaproszony do paryskiej Olympii, gdzie występował ze swym zespołem jako pierwszy artysta zza żelaznej kurtyny. Razem z Niebiesko-Czarnymi odniósł spory sukces na kilku festiwalach muzycznych we Francji. Burano (pod pseudonimem Steve Luca) nagrywał płyty dla wytwórni RCA.
W marcu 1968 roku wrócił do Polski i zaczął eksperymentować z własną formacją Burano & leske Rom. Zespół okazał się wielkim sukcesem i zyskał sporą popularność.
W październiku 1968 roku Burano wyjechał do Francji, gdzie kontynuował karierę pod nowym pseudonimem John Mike Arlow. Dla wytwórni Barclay nagrał m.in. "My Sweet Angel", "Go Ami Go", "My Obsession", "Smile Your Tears Away", "Bessie" i "Geloso".
W 1975 roku Burano przeniósł się do Los Angeles i tam założył własną wytwórnię płytową pod nazwą Arlow Land. W tym samym roku wrócił na krótko do Polski.
Ostatni raz w kraju wystąpił na Międzynarodowym Festiwalu Piosenki w Sopocie w 1986 roku. Obecnie mieszka w USA.

I had the chance to finally visit Venice, Italy a place that I've somehow never had the chance to visit or photograph. Within just a couple minutes of arriving in the city, I understand why it's so popular. I mean, the place doesn't even make sense how photogenic it is. Venice is unique, and as a traveller who has gotten around the world quite a bit, that's something I really appreciate. Not only did I explore Venice, though, I also had the chance to go out and check out a couple of the islands nearby. I did a photography day trip that took me to Murano and Burano. Burnano in particular is absolutely stunning and made for some cool photos. Venice was brilliant, and definitely a city I'd love to get back to. In general, I'm totally falling for Italy as a photographer.
