Police dog eats suspect's hamster

A police search in the UK turned into a real dog's dinner when a sniffer dog ate the suspect's pet hamster.

Police were searching the home of Muza Khan in Oldham, Greater Manchester, for drugs when the dog knocked over the hamster cage and wolfed down the unfortunate rodent.

A police handler forced the dog to cough up the animal, but it was already dead.

No drugs charges were filed against Khan, but he was ironically charged with animal cruelty after a bald parakeet found during the search appeared to be in distress.

Khan, 46, admitted to failing to protect the bird, named Miko.

He was fined £110 by Oldham magistrates with £400 costs and banned from keeping a bird for two years.

Miko has since been rehoused by the RSPCA.
