桃花源记 - 陶渊明 The Tale of the Peach Blossom Spring
陶渊明 桃花源記 The Tale of the Peach Blossom Spring 晉太元中,武陵人,捕魚為業,緣溪行,忘路之遠近。Once a time there was a fisherman whose native land was called Wuling, in the Taiyuan Period of Time of the Jin Dynasty [265-420], China. He was walking along a creek-riverside, with no sense of how far away from his start. 忽逢桃花林,夾岸數百步,中無雜樹,芳草鮮美,落英繽紛,漁人甚異之。All of a sudden, he was surprised to find a Peach-Blossom-Grove, and on both sides across the creek with hundreds-of-feet-wide land, no other trees but peach ones grow with fresh and sweet grass petals falling in riotous profusion. 復前行,欲窮其林。林盡水源,便得一山。山有小口,彷佛若有光。便捨船,從口入。初極狹,才通人。復行數十步,豁然開朗。Going on forward, he wanted to pass through the whole grove reaching a fountainhead near a mountain. There was a small hole seemingly glittering in front of the mountain. And he left his boat, entering the hole as an open door being so narrow that only one man could press himself to penetrate into it. Continuing for over tens-of-feet distance, he found the view instantly clearing up. 土地平曠,屋舍儼然,有良田、美池、桑竹之屬;阡陌交通,雞犬相聞。其中往來種作,男女衣著,悉如外人。黃發垂髫,並怡然自樂。The land being spacious, houses set out in neat order. On the rich land with a beautiful pool, growing were bamboo, mulberry and the like. Everywhere was in good connections with crisscross footpaths between fields where cocks' crying and dogs' barking could be faintly heard, and all the farmers were plowing, sowing or weeding back and forth. The clothing of men or women was similar to the people outside. The people, old and young, felt happy and pleased with themselves.見漁人,乃大驚。問所從來,具答之。便要還家,設酒,殺雞,作食;村中聞有此人,咸來問訊。However, they were terribly surprised to see the fisherman, and asked where he came from. The fisherman answered their questions one by one. And then he was invited to visit their own houses for dinner with wine and chicken cooked by themselves. As the news that the stranger was coming in the village was told, all the villagers wanted to inquire what had happened. 自云先世避秦時亂,率妻子邑人來此絕境,不復出焉,遂與外人間隔。問今是何世,乃不知有漢,無論魏晉。The host told the stranger that his forefather evading the Qin-Dynasty's social disorder with the turmoil of war, brought his wife, children and good neighbors to get to the desperate cave, and had never gone out and eventually separated from human beings outside. When he was asked to tell which dynasty it was, he did know nothing about the Han Dynasty [206BC-AD220] and still the less he knew about the Wei Dynasty [386-556] or the Jin Dynasty. 此人一一為具言所聞,皆嘆惋。餘人各復延至其家,皆出酒食。停數日,辭去。此中人語云:「不足為外人道也。」However, the fisherman told him what had taken place outside, and all of them sighed in astonished manners. Besides the first household, the rest ones also invited him to visit their own houses respectively, entertaining him with foods and drinks. He had stayed cordially for several days and left off. The local people living in the Utopia-like cave said to him: "Don't tell anything about us to anyone outside. 既出,得其船,便扶向路,處處誌之。及郡下,詣太守,說如此,太守即遣人隨其往。尋向所誌,遂迷不復得路。On purpose he recorded everywhere with a sign he had passed by as soon as he went out, paddling his boat along the waterway. Arriving at Wuling County, the fisherman called on the magistrate to report what he had seen there. At once the prefecture official sent men to detect the exact cave according to the marks made by the fisherman. However, the men were too puzzled to find the exact way. 南陽劉子驥,高尚士也;聞之,欣然規往。未果,尋病終。後遂無問津者。Another respectable scholar named Liu Ziji from Nanyang Town was told about the mysterious spot, and he was joyful to have a try but died while seeking for it in vain. Afterwards, nobody made inquires about it.

Papaya leaves & Worlds' most effective vaccine against dengue.
The worlds' most effective vaccine candidate against dengue is all set for trials in India & if all goes to plan, the vaccine will be available globally by 2015. The vaccine will be tested on 120-odd adults in the beginning, the results of which should be available by 2013. Dr. Jean Lang, head of the dengue vaccine's R&D; programme, added, "The drug controller general of India has asked us to conduct phase II safety trials on adults first before testing the candidate vaccine on children. According to Dr. Lang, largescale Phase III clinical studies of the vaccine are presently under way on 31,000 adulsts and children in 10 countries -- Mexico, Colombia, Honduras, Puerto Rico, Brazil, the Phiolipines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thaliand. Sanofi's global R&D; president Dr. Elias Zerhouni said dengue's spread would only grow due to global warming. "Affected countries are pushing us to come out with the dengue vaccine early." He said. There is currently no vaccine to protect against dengue, and efforts to develop one have been hamstrung since four viruses (known as DENV 1,2,3 and 4) cause the disease. We are trying to find out why the vaccine wasn't very effective aginst the strain type 2 and a separate vaccine effective against the other three strains of dengue. Dengue has been identified as one of the 17 neglected tropical diseases by WHO.
Many people think nowadays that Papaya leaves juice are a possible cure for dengue & malaria fever. I had recently gone through an article & the study was initiated and led by Dr S. Kathiresan of AIMST University. Dr Kathiresan said the leaves of papaya fruit were high in complex vitamins that might help bone marrow to rapidly increase blood platelet production.
"The dengue virus' main effect is on platelet production. Normally, a platelet in our body lasts for about five to 10 days and the body replenishes them when required," he told Bernama. "This virus destroys the body's capacity to produce new platelets (during the period the virus is effective). The platelet count for a normal person varies from 150,000 to 250,000 per micro litre of blood. On becoming infected, a patient's platelet count starts falling. "A platelet count below 100,000 per microlitre is alarming -- immediate medical attention is required. A platelet count below 50,000 can be fatal," he added. A fall in the platelet count prevents formation of clots and this leads to haemorrhaging, which results in both internal and external bleeding. Once such bleeding starts, the situation is almost irreversible, he said.
Dr Kathiresan noted that interest in the papaya began with a simple experiment with papaya leaves which were ground and administered to mice. The platelet counts before, and 72 hours after dosing, revealed they were significantly higher. The six-month study, titled Thrombocyte counts in mice after the administration of papaya leaf suspension, published in October 2009, was funded by AIMST University & University Sains Malaysia.
When a mosquito carrying dengue virus bites a person, the virus enters the skin together with the mosquito's saliva. It binds to and enters white blood cells, and reproduces inside the cells while they move throughout the body. The white blood cells respond by producing a number of signaling proteins, such as interferon, which are responsible for many of the symptoms, such as the fever, the flu-like symptoms and the severe pains. In severe infection, the virus production inside the body is greatly increased, and many more organs (such as the liver and the bone marrow) can be affected, and fluid from the bloodstream leaks through the wall of small blood vessels into body cavities. As a result, less blood circulates in the blood vessels, and the blood pressure becomes so low that it cannot supply sufficient blood to vital organs. Furthermore, dysfunction of the bone marrow leads to reduced numbers of platelets, which are necessary for effective blood clotting; this increases the risk of bleeding, the other major complication of dengue fever.
Most people with dengue recover without any ongoing problems. There are no specific treatments for dengue fever. Treatment depends on the symptoms. Dengue virus is primarily transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, particularly A. aegypti. They typically bite during the day, particularly in the early morning and in the evening. An infection can be acquired via a single bite. A female mosquito that takes a blood meal from a person infected with dengue fever becomes itself infected with the virus in the cells lining its gut. About 8--10 days later, the virus spreads to other tissues including the mosquito's salivary glands and is subsequently released into its saliva. The first record of a case of probable dengue fever is in a Chinese medical encyclopedia from the Jin Dynasty (265--420 AD).

Hong Kong Shopping, Goldfish & Giant Panda Bears
Terry Hodgkinson aka "wandering ninja" shows some video clips of Hong Kong's Stanley Market and Ocean Park where he captured excellent footage of interesting looking goldfish and cute but giant size panda bears.
"Stanley Market was huge, so much to look at. The goldfish in Ocean Park were all unique, some I had never seen anywhere before. Now the giant panda bears, JiaJia and AnAn were the main attraction. What a pleasure and treat it was to watch these beautiful bears!" - Terry
Facts:
Stanley Market
The ever-popular Stanley Market is situated in Stanley New Street near the Stanley food market. It is an array of small shops and street stalls flaunting handicrafts and souvenirs rich in local flavour, as well as household items, toys and low cost fashion. The selection is dazzling and offers great value for money.
History of goldfish in China
In ancient China, various species of carp (collectively known as Asian carps) were domesticated and have been reared as food fish for thousands of years. Some of these normally gray or silver species have a tendency to produce red, orange or yellow color mutations; this was first recorded in the Jin Dynasty (265--420).
Info on Giant Pandas
The giant panda lives in a few mountain ranges in central China, mainly in Sichuan province, but also in the Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.[8] Due to farming, deforestation and other development, the panda has been driven out of the lowland areas where it once lived.
While the dragon has historically served as China's national emblem, in recent decades the panda has also served as an emblem for the country. Its image appears on a large number of modern Chinese commemorative silver, gold, and platinum coins. Though the panda is often assumed to be docile, it has been known to attack humans, presumably out of irritation rather than predation.

Ken Trip To Hong Kong Febuary 1, 2010 Part 2
Yuen Po Street Bird Garden is a charming Chinese-style garden is the favored gathering place of Hong Kong's songbird owners, who carry their beloved pets around in intricately carved cages. All manner of beautiful birds can be seen here, as well as a selection of traditional bird-keeping paraphernalia. Located on Yuen Po Street in Mong Kok, the garden contains some 70 songbird stalls as well as interesting courtyards and moon gates. All our markets that we visited are in Mong Kok. Mong Kok or Mongkok (Chinese: 旺角; the English name is a transliteration of its older name 望角 or 芒角 which is pronounced "Mong Gok", and named after its plentiful supply of ferns in the past when it was a coastal region. Its present Chinese name "旺角" is pronounced "Wong Gok") is an area in the Yau Tsim Mong District on Kowloon Peninsula, Hong Kong. Before a 1994 merge, Mong Kok was part of the Mong Kok District. The name in Chinese means "prosperous corner". Displays at the Chinese University of Hong Kong show some antique potteries, indicating that there might be settlements that early as Jin Dynasty (265-420).[1]The district is characterized by a mixture of old and new multi-story buildings, with shops and restaurants at street level and commercial or residential units above. Major industries in Mong Kok are retail, restaurants (including fast food) and entertainment. Mong Kok's population density is extremely high. According to Guinness World Records, Mong Kok has the highest population density in the world (mean 130,000 per km2 or 340,000 per mi2) and with a development multiple of four. The Flower Market is one of Hong Kong's most colorful street markets; the Flower Market is a jungle of exotic blossoms, luck-bringing houseplants and sweet scents to be found in more than 50 shops. It's fun to walk around the market admiring the huge variety of flowers and plants for sale. During Chinese New Year, families flock to the market to buy auspicious plants to celebrate the most important festival on the lunar calendar. I believe oranges or orange looking types are for good luck as they were everywhere in the market and stores. Goldfish Market is where you will find Aquariums bringing luck and natural beauty to many living rooms in Hong Kong. This specialist market is the preferred source for goldfish and other exotic fish of every shape and hue, as well as aquariums, corals and aquatic ornaments. Head for Tung Choi Street. You will be surprise by their displays' of fish in baggies hanging on pegboard.

十面埋伏 Chinese traditional music, pipa 琵琶
The pipa (Chinese: 琵琶; pinyin: pípá) is a plucked Chinese string instrument. Sometimes called the Chinese lute, the instrument has a pear-shaped wooden body. It has been played for nearly two thousand years of history in China, and belongs to the plucked category of instruments (弹拨乐器/彈撥樂器). Several related instruments in East and Southeast Asia are derived from the pipa; these include the Japanesebiwa, the Vietnameseđàn tỳ bà, and the Koreanbipa.
Prototypes of the pipa already existed in China in the Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 206 BC). At that time, there were two types of pipa. One was straight-necked, with a round sound box, and two faces mounted with leather. The other was believed to be inspired by the primitive forms of zheng, konghou, and zou. It also has a straight neck, a round sound box, and also four strings, along with twelve standards of notes. This model was later developed into the instrument known today as the ruan. The modern pipa is closer to the instrument which originated in Persia/Middle-East (where it was called barbat) and was introduced into China beginning in the late Jin Dynasty (265-420 A.D.).
By the Tang era, the pipa had become popular in the imperial court. It had a crooked neck, 4 or 5 silk strings, and 5 or 6 frets, and was played with a plectrum in a horizontal position. As the ages went by, the crooked neck was replaced by a straight one, the number of frets increased to between 14 or 16, and to 17, 24, 29, or 30 in the 20th century. The 14- or 16-fret pipa had frets arranged in approximately equivalent to the western tone and semitone, starting at the nut, the intervals were T-S-S-S-T-S-S-S-T-T-3/4-3/4-T-T-3/4-3/4, (some frets produced a 3/4 tone or "neutral tone"). In the 1920s and 1930s, the number of frets was increased to 24, based on the 12 tone equal temperament scale, with all the intervals being semitones. Since then the number of frets has been extended to 29 or 30. The traditional 16-fret pipa is becoming less common, although it is still used in some regional styles such as the pipa in the southern genre of nanguan/nanyin. The plectrum was replaced by fingernails and the horizontal playing position was replaced by the vertical (or near-vertical) position. During this time, the five-stringed pipa became lost.
Back of the Tang Dynasty five-stringed pipaThe pipa became a favourite in the Tang Dynasty, during which time Persian and Kuchan performers and teachers were in demand in the capital, Chang'an (which had a large Persian community).[1] Many delicately carved pipas with beautiful inlaid patterns date from this period. Masses of pipa-playing Buddhist semi-deities are depicted in the wall paintings of the Mogao Caves near Dunhuang.

Snacky Chan - Eassyde story
Roy Kim, otherwise known as 'Chan' or 'Snacky Chan,' is a hip hop emcee originally hailing from New Jersey, currently doing his thing in Boston, Massachussetts. Chan has established himself over the years as an emcee with 'true to the art' skills, proving his abilities in underground hip hop venues across the country.
Hip Hop afficianados first took notice of Chan when he dropped his first 12"(vinyl) offering, 'Politickin w/ Chan,' b/w 'Big in Japan,' in September of '01 on Detonator Records. 'Chairman Mao,' music critic/reviewer at XXL magazine went so far as to say that "...Chan is the rugged-est, most skilled Asian-American MC I've heard yet - actually, he's pretty dope on any scale..."
Chan's songs have also featured on well known, and critically acclaimed compilation albums including the Detonator Records 'Volume 1' Compilation, as well as 'Home,' an album boasting a fine collection of the Beantown's hottest upcoming and veteran talents.
As a result of Chan's hard work in '01, he was nominated 'Best New Rap/Hip-Hop Act,' in the 15th annual Boston Music Awards and has blessed the stage with some of hip hop's finest including, Guru(Gangstarr), Jeru tha Damaja, Talib Kweli, Cormega, Jedi Mind Tricks, Krumbsnatcha, Jin tha MC, Mr.Lif, Black Moon, Boot Camp Clique, and many, many more.
After succesfully completing a nationwide tour that spanned the entire east coast, midwest, and dirty south with Detonator Records, Chan devoted himself to the writing and recording of his highly anticpated debut album 'Part of the Nation,' which was released in the Fall of '04 under Chan's own start-up record label 'Dynasty Muzik.'
Remaining raw, Chan's overall musical message remains insightful, intelligent, spiritual, and humorous. A strong advocate in breaking new ground for Asians in hip hop and media in general, he is pleased and thankful you've taken the time to vist ChanHipHop.com, Enjoy the site!
