Toy Caldwell Band “Everyday I Sing The Blues” 9-7-89
Rare footage of the Toy Caldwell Band, with Bruce Marshall on guitar, filmed at the 4 Legged Duck in S. Royalton, VT on 9-7-89. This was Bruce's 2nd gig with the band, they were normally a 5 pc. group but guitarist Pic Pickens went home to SC to assist in the birth of his first child. Marshall had recently been hired to play mostly keys and sing lead but was told he'd be playing guitar that night! This song appeared on the Marshall Tucker Album, “Where We All Belong.” Caldwell and Marshall are having a gas trading licks, Toy's playing is killer as usual and the rhythm section of Herman Nixon on drums and Tony Heatherly on bass rocks the house.

Toy Caldwell Band with Bruce Marshall - Running Like The Wind
Another clip from the 4 Legged Duck in South Royalton, VT., Nov. of 1989. Toy Caldwell always played "Running Like The Wind" very different from the orig. Marshall Tucker version released in 1979 on the album of the same name. TCB played a slower, more soulful version and it's represented well here. Toy had always said it was his favorite song and Bruce Marshall was quite honored when Toy asked him to sing it after joining the band earlier that spring. This was a small listening room that became legendary for the national shows held there between 1986 and 1994 and the TCB always raised the roof off the joint. Their last gig in the room was a double bill with the Outlaws but sadly there's no video of that. Bruce Marshall is on lead vocals and keys, Pic Pickens is on guitar, Tony Heatherly is on bass and Herman Nixon on drums. Thanks for listening and keeping this special music alive and lets get Marshall Tucker in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame!

Toy Caldwell Band - Sleep Walk
Another clip from the 4 Legged Duck in South Royalton, VT., 11-89. "Sleepwalk" became famous after Santo and Johnny put it out in 1959 and it's also been covered by the likes of Richie Valens, Joe Satriani, Brian Setzer, Danny Gatton and many others. Toy Caldwell learned the song from his father as a child and his version is one of the more unique as he takes some liberties with the chord structure (check out the intro) and arrangement and makes it his own. Toy pours out his heart and soul on this one from the get go and this may the only video version of Sleepwalk by the TCB. The nod to Willie Nelson at the end is a nice touch. The lineup is Bruce Marshall on keyboards, Pic Pickens on guitar, Tony Heatherly on bass and Herman Nixon on drums. Thanks for listening and keeping this special music alive and lets get Marshall Tucker in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame

Toy Caldwell Band, with Bruce Marshall. 24 Hours At A Time.
This was the second of 3 shows at the Four Legged Duck in South Royalton, VT. It took place in Nov. of 1989 and it's obvious the band was really on their game this night. Toy's guitar work here is nothing short of stunning, one of the better live versions of this tune you'll hear. 24 Hours originally came out on the Marshall Tucker album "Where We All Belong". Bruce Marshall is on lead vocals, guitar and keys, Pic Pickens is on guitar, Tony Heatherly is on bass and Herman Nixon on drums. Look for more TCB clips soon and thanks for listening.

Toy Caldwell Band - Milk Cow Blues
4 Legged Duck, South Royalton, VT. 11-89. Toy's version of the 1946 Johnnie Lee Wills hit (penned by Kokomo Arnold) gets a slower, southern blues treatment than some of the other versions by the likes of George Strait and Merle Haggard. The tune is best known as a popular Western swing number and Toy was influenced by that music when his father was teaching him guitar. This clip highlights the blues side of Toy, his phrasing, tone and dynamics are on full display here and the way he mixes chicago blues licks with his trademark chicken pickin is masterful. Pic Pickens is on guitar, Tony Heatherly is on bass, Bruce Marshall is on organ and Herman Nixon on the drums.

Toy Caldwell Band with Bruce Marshall - The Night We Met
From the 4 Legged Duck in South Royalton, VT., Nov. of 1989. The so called "mystery song" in Toy Caldwell's body of work. He loved to play this on acoustic in the dressing room and after the shows but rarely played it live. I'm not sure if anyone knows the correct name of this one but he always announced it as a Charlie Daniels co-write. It's a pretty piece and I'm glad there's a nice example of it here for all to enjoy. Thanks for listening and keeping this special music alive and lets get Marshall Tucker in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame!
