Yom Kippur reenactment
A reenactment of Yom Kippur (the day of atonement) the most holy day in the Jewish year. On this day the High Priest entered the Holy place and sprinkled blood from the sacrifice on the mercy seat of the ark of the covenant.
Only the High Priest could enter this room, and only blood can cover sin "...it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul" Leviticus 17:11. And the High Priest could only enter this room one day a year, Yom Kippur.

True Meaning Of YOM KIPPUR, DAY OF ATONEMENT
Originally Uploaded by jarofclay9, thanks
Yom Kippur, Day of Atonement is the holiest day of the year and a day entirely devoted to GOD and prayer. It is traditionally a fast day. (See below Lev 16:31). For Messianic Jews this can be a time of joy in the knowledge that our sins are atoned for. Otherwise it is traditional to wear white, as on Rosh HaShanah. For a Messianic Jew or Christian, it can be a day of fasting and intercession for the Jewish people and Israel in particular. For the lukewarm, Yom Kippur is a reminder that Judgement day is near and TODAY, everyday is the day of repentance and salvation!
Leviticus 16:31
New Living Translation (©2007) It will be a Sabbath day of complete rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. This is a permanent law for you.
English Standard Version (©2001) It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict yourselves; it is a statute forever.
New American Standard Bible (©1995) "It is to be a sabbath of solemn rest for you, that you may humble your souls; it is a permanent statute.

When is Yom Kippur 2011?
Remember, a Jewish day is sunset to sunset, not midnight to midnight.
The "official" date for 2011 on the pre-set calendar, which most of the Jewish World observes, is October 8th -- it begins October 7th at sundown.
If you go by the Crescent NEW MOON sighting this year, 2011: it is October 9th - it begins October 8th at sundown.

The Meaning of the Book of Life: Yom Kippur 5773
Time is the marking of change. What folly it is to let time change us by not using time to change ourselves: G-d has blessed us with this year, this season, this day of Yom Kippur By admitting our past errors, by coming clean, by standing before G-d and changing ourselves for the better we can transcend time. We can transcend life itself by taking on the challenge of Yom Kippur, to be ourselves, our true selves, as never before. Gmar chatima tova - May we inscribe ourselves in the Book of Life!
Yom Kippur begins on the evening of September 25, 2012/Tishrei 10, 5773

Yom Kippur 2012: What Israelis Regret on the Jewish New Year High Holiday in Tel Aviv
The high holiday of Yom Kippur marks the holiest day of the Jewish year. This is a day of atonement meant to inspire self-reflection and regret. Looking back at the year that's gone by and as we enter this tremendously significant Jewish holiday, we asked people out on the streets of Tel Aviv, what they might be feeling regretful about. In addition to feeling regretful for all sorts of events that took place in our lives on a personal level, some people feel sorry for certain things that were or were not done - on a national level. For 25 hours on this Yom Kippur holiday, Jews are meant to fast, introspect, and apologize to God for having wronged others, and for not having lived up to their own potential. At the day's end, the Shofar's horn will be blown, concluding their prayers, and paving way to a brand new year.

Yom Kippur: Overboard (Jonah's Song)
Lots of us think about Yom Kippur like an annual big dark cloud of guilt, sin and hours in synagogue. But ahoy there matey! It doesn't have to be that way. Throw your old ideas overboard.
Yom Kippur is an amazing opportunity to change, grow and connect. Just ask Jonah, the hero of the Yom Kippur afternoon haftarah.
Check in with Jonah and the whale (okay, fish) and learn how Yom Kippur connects us to God, to our communities, and to our true selves.

Yom Kippur
The term "High Holidays" refers to Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur together. Literally "the Day of Atonement," Yom Kippur concludes the Ten Days of Awe. It is the holiest and most somber day of the year. (Lev. 23:27-32)
In ancient times, one day of the year, the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies to put the blood of the sacrificed animal on the altar as a sin offering. Through faith, obedience to God's precise instructions resulted in atonement, or covering, for sin. Today, Yom Kippur is a day of fasting and reflecting upon one's sin.
Yom Kippur can be somewhat of a conundrum to Jewish believers in Y'shua. Do we fast and confess our sins like the rest of the Jewish community or do we rejoice in the knowledge that we're forgiven in Messiah? Many Jewish believers view Yom Kippur as a time for identification with our Jewish people, introspection for ourselves and intercession for loved ones, knowing all the while that Jesus is the One that makes us at one with God.

Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, is the highest holy day of Judaism. It is a somber day of reflection, where practically the entire nation of Israel shuts down, and the streets of Jerusalem are all but deserted.

Step 1: Know the rules
Know the rules: You are not allowed to eat or drink for 25 hours, beginning at sunset and ending one hour after sunset the next day. Boys under age 13, and girls under age 12, pregnant and nursing women, the sick, and the elderly are all exempt from the full fast.
Tip
Some Jews do not even brush their teeth on Yom Kippur because water would pass their lips.
Step 2: Taper off favorite foods
Prepare your body in the days leading up to the fast by tapering off any food or beverages that you rely on to get through the day.
Tip
The no drinking rule includes coffee! Addicts should cut down on their java several days ahead of time to prevent a caffeine-withdrawal headache.
Step 3: Prevent dehydration
Prevent dehydration by drinking plenty of water and eating water-rich foods, like fruit, in the hours leading up to the fast. Avoid things that deplete your body of water, like salt, alcohol, and caffeinated drinks.
Step 4: Carefully choose your last meal
Choose foods with staying power for your last pre-fast meal. Potatoes, fish, whole wheat pasta, oranges, and apples are among the most filling foods.
Step 5: Break fast carefully
Break your fast by drinking a glass or two of milk or juice before eating solid foods; it will prevent you from eating too much and too rapidly.
Did You Know?
The Talmud also forbids bathing, wearing leather, and having sexual intercourse on Yom Kippur.

Yom Kippur
Jews around the world consider Yom Kippur to be the holiest day in all of the Jewish year, which ends the period called the Ten Days of Awe. Also known as The Day Atonement, Jewish communities gather together on Yom Kippur to fast and pray in synagogue. Rabbi Irwin Kula, co-president of The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, describes the significance of the Jewish holiday.
