Vertebrates and Invertebrates
Bone Up on Backbones A Guide to Vertebrates and Invertebrates Vertebrates are animals that have a backbone or spinal column. These include mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. Invertebrates are animals that don't have a backbone or spinal column. These include arthropods, shellfish, worms, jellyfish, insects, and more. Watch the video and learn more about both.

Birds Vertebrates | Biology | Nature
To purchase this program please visit www.greatpacificmedia.com Segment from the program KIngdom Animalia: The Vertebrates. DVD Description Our Vertebrates DVD begins by looking at the evolutionary origins of vertebrates before going on to examine primitive aquatic vertebrates such as jawless hagfish and lampreys and the more sophisticated sharks and rays of class Chondrichthyes and the "bony" fish of class Osteichthyes. The program then studies evolutionary adaptations such as: changes in skeletal structure, skin and eggs resistant to evaporation, control of body temperature, and increased circulatory and cognitive capacity that one sees going from class Amphibia to classes Reptilia and Aves and on to class Mammalia.

Biology: Vertebrates: Introduction to the Amphibians
www.zaneeducation.com - Thiseducational biology video will assist biology students to study and identify the three orders of amphibians and their modes of locomotion, traces the life cycle of a frog, and studies the adaptations of adult amphibians to terrestrial habitats. All of Zane Education's educational video lessons provide subtitles giving your child the option to watch, listen to, or read each presentation making them excellent learning tool for all manner of special Needs children, students with visual and hearing impairments, dyslexia and reading difficulties, learning difficulties and autism. They enable gifted children and all students to learn at their own speed and will help improve each child's overall reading skills. They are used in schools and by homeschool students everywhere.

AMNH Fossil Fishes - Hall of Vertebrates
This video from the AMNH Hall of Vertebrates introduces four major groups of fishes: the Osteichthyes (ie bony fishes including the ray-finned Actinopterygians), Chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fishes), the Ostracoderms (extinct jawless fishes - agnathans), and the first jawed fishes (gnathostomes) the extinct Placoderms. I also introduce some of the major morphological adaptations in the evolution of vertebrates including the evolution of paired fins, the heterocercal tail, jaws, and limbs. We will cover all of this much more extensively when I return.

Yosemite Revisited: California's Terrestrial Vertebrates
The terrestrial vertebrate fauna of California is being re-surveyed at a series of specific sites originally studied in the early 1900s, with current focus on an area from the Central Valley through Yosemite National Park to Mono Lake. These surveys have revealed significant elevational and latitudinal shifts in species' ranges over this short time period. Whether species have responded as a collective group to general phenomena, such as global warming, or individually to particular shifts in the habitat, remains the substantive question to answer.
