Step 1: Look for unused objects Ask yourself how often you have used an object over the past few months when deciding whether to discard it. This is a better measure of whether you need it than the potential value of the object. Tip If you haven't used it in the past year, or can't remember the last time you used it, you don't need it. Step 2: Look at your closets Look through your closets. Keep only those clothes that are versatile. Get rid of anything that doesn't fit or that you don't wear. Tip For all practical ...

TEDxBoulder - Grant Blakeman - Minimalism - For a More Full Life
Grant Blakeman discovers the power of minimalism and how staying simple is actually more effective than overcomplicating something. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.) About TED TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily ...

Colin Wright Minimalism Interview at TheMinimalists.com
As part of an ongoing series, theminimalists.com interviews other minimalists from all over the world with our short, three-question-interviews. The questions are always the same, but the answers vary greatly. We recently had the privilege of interviewing Colin Wright of Exile Lifestyle and his newest venture Ebookling. Colin is an A-List Blogger, Brander, Writer, Minimalist, Entrepreneur, and World Traveler. He is also a networking genius. We've met Colin in person a few times over the past year, and he's a great guy. He's fun and confident and he understands people. In fact, he literally wrote the book on networking for people that don't like to network. Colin was kind enough to record a video response to our minimalist interview questions.

KI: Michael Levin
I first became aware of Michael Levin's photographs in 2010. His photographs of everyday places and common subjects are transformed into something much more when he views them through his lens...absolutely stunning! Being that a large majority of Michael's work is done in Japan, I instantly had a connection to it as I too have a bond with Japan and have traveled and documented the landscape extensively in my own way. After watching my film Hayaku (http://vimeo.com/12112529) Michael contacted me regarding a project he was working on and felt it might be of interest to me. He told me that he really appreciated my work and recognized the dedication and effort that went into it. I agreed to go on a trip with him to Japan and work on his project. But for me, there was a greater opportunity at hand. We had several conversations and I gave him some ideas about expanding the project and he really took to it. A month later and we were in Japan having beers and sushi.
I wanted to document Michael at work, in Japan, in a way that hasn't really been explored with photographers. I told Michael of my idea to make an artistic representation of his experiences in the Land of the Rising Sun - to show him in his working environment in a way that complimented his work. Not to explain it with words, but to feel it through the flow of the film. I wanted to show the process, the journey, the adventure in a way that would give the viewer an emotional connection to Michael and his photography.
The final result is something that I think is truly original… something that showcases who Michael is, and more importantly, what his work is all about. This film is a collaboration between Michael and I and our love for photography, film, Japan and adventure. This is a subject that Michael and I are continuing to explore as we plan more trips together, more films and more adventures.
I hope you enjoy!

Partitura 001
Realtime sound visualisation made with custom software "Partitura"
Sound by Telefon Tel Aviv
an ongoing collaboration between Abstract Birds and Quayola
Partitura is a custom software built in vvvv to generate realtime graphics aimed at visualising sound. . The term “Partitura” (score) implies a connection with music, and this metaphor is the main focus of the project. Partitura aims to create a new system for translating sound into visual forms. Inspired by the studies of artists such as Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Oscar Fischinger and Norman McLaren, the images generated by Partitura are based on a precise and coherent system of relationships between various types of geometries. The main characteristic of this system is its horizontal linear structure, like that of a musical score. It is along this linear environment that the different classes of abstract elements are created and evolve over time according to the sound. Partitura creates endless ever-evolving abstract landscapes that can respond to musical structures, audio analysis and manual gestural inputs. It is an instrument that visualises sound with both the freedom of spontaneous personal interpretation/improvisation and at the same time maintaining the automations and triggers of mathematical precision.
Partitura defines a coherent language of its own for the creation of new contemporary abstractions. It is within this system that Partitura creates worlds that expand from a single dot to multiple galaxies, from minimalism to complexity, from rigid to elastic, from solid to liquid, from angular to smoothness, from tentative to boldness, from calm to agitation, from slow to fast, from desaturated to saturation, from dark to lightness, from predictable to unpredictability. Literally ‘everything’ and its opposite... just like a musical flow.

So Percussion performs Reich's "Mallet Quartet"
Mallet Quartet (2009) is scored for two vibraphones and two five octave marimbas. I had never written for five octave marimbas extending down to cello C. On the one hand I was delighted to have the possibility of a low bass and on the other hand apprehensive since just slightly too hard a mallet that low can produce noise instead of pitch. Eventually, after a bit of experimentation, this was well worked out. The piece is in three movements, fast, slow, fast. In the two outer fast movements the marimbas set the harmonic background which remains rather static compared to recent pieces of mine like Double Sextet (2007). The marimbas interlock in canon, also a procedure I have used in many other works. The vibes present the melodic material first solo and then in canon. However, in the central slow movement the texture changes into a thinner more transparent one with very spare use of notes, particularly in the marimbas. I was originally concerned this movement might just be 'too thin', but I think it ends up being the most striking, and certainly the least expected, of the piece. Mallet Quartet is about 15 minutes in duration. It was co-commissioned by the Amadinda Quartet in Budapest (on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary), by Nexus in Toronto, So Percussion in New York and Synergy Percussion in Australia. The world Premiere was given by the Amadinda Quartet in Bela Bartók National Concert Hall on December 6, 2009. The American Premiere was given by So Percussion at ...

Makeup and Inspiration- Real Talk on Minimalism
PLEASE READ BELOW... www.facebook.com www.twitter.com Plain white T and basic black eyeliner. This video is about getting real with yourself. In my personal life I've been embracing a simpler mentality when it comes to collecting, keeping, and storing. Gone are the days of beauty product hoarding. I've found that less is more and a clear space really yields a clearer mind. The beauty industry is a billion dollar industry that profits off of your need to keep up, lusting after the next best thing. I hope this video disarms some of that anxiety, and gets down to the basics of it all. Staying beautiful on the outside is really just a matter of embracing what is within. Live pure, eat clean, be mindful of the ingredients you put in and on your body. It's okay to never own a designer ANYTHING in your life. Packaging and labels have a power over us that can really impact your self esteem if you allow them. Don't compare your self to anyone else. Life your best life possible. Smile, and embrace your natural beauty. Thanks for watching, Tina :)
