Spelling Television Inc. (first known as Aaron Spelling Productions, Spelling Entertainment Inc. later as Spelling Entertainment Group) was a television production company that produced popular shows such as Charmed, Beverly Hills, 90210, 7th Heaven, Dynasty and Melrose Place. The company was founded by television producer Aaron Spelling in 1969. The company is currently an in-name-only unit of CBS Television Studios.

Aaron Spelling Productions went public in 1986 after raising $80 million. In 1988, Aaron Spelling Productions acquired Laurel Entertainment and most of the Taft Entertainment Company, including Worldvision Enterprises, Inc. All three companies became part of Spelling, Inc. - though Worldvision was the only Taft division to continue operating. The sale was completed on March 1, 1989. A share in the company was acquired by Blockbuster Entertainment (which was being sold to Viacom) in 1994. In 1993, Spelling Entertainment acquired Republic Pictures. On September 29, 1994, Blockbuster merged with Viacom. Blockbuster by then owned 67% of Spelling Entertainment. The remainder of Spelling Entertainment was then acquired by Paramount/Viacom in 1999, but the deal closed in 2000.

Darren Bennett Star (born July 25, 1961) is an American producer, director and writer for film and television. He is best known for creating the hit TV shows Melrose Place, Beverly Hills, 90210 and Sex and the City.

Star created the television series Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place (with Aaron Spelling) and was the creator and a writer for the HBO series Sex and the City.

Star also worked on CBS' Central Park West (1995), The WB's Grosse Pointe (2000), Fox's The $treet (2000), NBC's Miss Match (2003), Kitchen Confidential (2005), The CW's Runaway (2006) and ABC's Cashmere Mafia, which premiered in 2008. Star was the producer of Sex and the City: The Movie, which was released in 2008 and its sequel, Sex and the City 2 which was released in 2010.

In 2002, Star was the recipient of the Austin Film Festival's Outstanding Television Writer Award. HBO is reportedly planning a Star-penned pilot for a series tentatively titled "Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl".

Star was born in Potomac, Maryland. His mother was a freelance writer and his father was an orthodontist. He attended Winston Churchill High School and UCLA.^{[citation needed]}
