1979 NBA playoffs action on disco music
Summary of the 1979 Western Conference Semi-Finals : Phoenix Suns vs Kansas City Kings, and LA Lakers vs Seattle Supersonics. Great Disco music to go with ^^ If someone could give me the title of the disco song I'd be pleased. NB : incredible put back dunk by Kareem which unfortunately doesn't count cause the shot clock expired. Great plays by Gus Williams, Dennis Johnson, Otis Birdsong too.

With six-time NBA MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar out with a severe ankle sprain, Magic started at center and turned in the best performance ever in an NBA Finals game -- 42 points, 15 boards, seven assists -- on the road, no less -- as the Lakers won their first of five NBA titles in the '80s.

1979-80 Los Angeles Lakers: That Magic Season Part 1/3
Los Angeles picked Earvin "Magic" Johnson, an electrifying 6-9 point guard who had led Michigan State to the 1979 NCAA Championship. "Showtime" had arrived, and a dynasty was established almost overnight. The 1979-80 season was one of intense drama for the Lakers. With the team at 10-4, Head Coach Jack McKinney suffered a serious injury in a bicycle accident and was replaced by Paul Westhead. The Lakers rallied to finish the season at 60-22, tops in the Pacific Division. Inspired by NBA All-Rookie Team member Johnson, Abdul-Jabbar turned in the best all-around performance of his career and earned his sixth and final Most Valuable Player Award. The Lakers were talented and deep-Jamaal Wilkes, Jim Chones, and Abdul-Jabbar made for an intimidating front line, and the backcourt of Johnson and Nixon could stand up to any guard tandem in the country. The Lakers' bench included Michael Cooper and Spencer Haywood. Los Angeles walked all over Phoenix and Seattle in the first two rounds of the playoffs, taking each series in five games. The NBA Finals pitted the club against the Julius Erving-led Philadelphia 76ers, and the two teams split four close games to start the series. Abdul-Jabbar sprained his ankle in Game 5 but still scored 40 points to give the Lakers a 108-103 win. Abdul-Jabbar was unable to play in Game 6, but Johnson stepped up to turn in one of the most remarkable performances in NBA Finals history. Dennis Johnson - DJ
Dennis Wayne Johnson (September 18, 1954 -- February 22, 2007), nicknamed "DJ", was an American professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association Seattle SuperSonics, Phoenix Suns and the Boston Celtics and coach of the Austin Toros of the National Basketball Association Development League. He is an alumnus of Dominguez High School, Los Angeles Harbor College and Pepperdine University. A prototypical latebloomer, the 6'4" Johnson overcame early struggles and had a successful NBA player career. Playing the roles of shooting guard in his first years before becoming a point guard with the Celtics, he won three NBA championships, winning the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award in the 1979 NBA Finals, was voted into five All-Star Teams, in one All-NBA First and one Second Team, and into nine straight All-Defensive First and Second Teams. Apart from his reputation as a defensive stopper, Johnson was known as a clutch player who made several decisive plays in NBA Finals history. For his feats, the Celtics franchise has retired Johnson's number-3 jersey, which hangs from the rafters of the Boston Garden. Despite his performances, Johnson was denied induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and is therefore considered by several sports journalists as one of the most underrated players of all time. In 1100 games, Johnson scored 15535 points, grabbed 4249 rebounds and gave 5499 assists, translating to career averages of 14.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.0 ...

1978 NBA Finals: Washington vs Seattle Game 7
Dennis Johnson, who before the 1977-78 playoffs was a relatively unknown guard from Pepperdine University, had grown into a star in this series in front of a national TV audience. However, DJ would miss every one of his 14 shots in this game. Fellow guard Gus Williams was a bit more accurate, shooting 4-for-12. SuperSonics big men Marvin Webster scored 27 points and Jack Sikma 21 to take up the slack, and that kept it close. With 90 seconds left, Seattle whittled the lead from 11 points down to four, but Mitch Kupchak came up with a three-point play. Fred Brown, who finished with 21 points off the bench, hit a short jumper, then Paul Silas got a tip-in to cut it to 101-99. Silas then fouled Wes Unseld, a 55-percent shooter from the line during the playoffs. He hit two free throws, and moments later Washington sealed it with a Bob Dandridge dunk, 105-99. Charles Johnson and Dandridge each scored 19 points for the Bullets, while Elvin Hayes fouled out with 12 points, a development that brought a couple of needling questions from the writers about his past failures in the playoffs. Unseld would be named Finals MVP.

1980 NBA Playoffs
The 1980 NBA Playoffs was the postseason tournament of the National Basketball Association's 1979-1980 season. The tournament concluded with the Western Conference champion Los Angeles Lakers defeating the Eastern Conference champion Philadelphia 76ers four games to two in the Finals. The Lakers earned their seventh NBA championship, second since moving from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Magic Johnson of the Lakers became the first (and as of 2007, only) rookie to win the NBA Finals MVP award, leading the Lakers to a clinching victory in Game 6 with 42 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists. With center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar out with a severely sprained ankle, Johnson started at center in his stead, and ultimately played all five positions on the court during the game. Philadelphia earned their third Eastern Conference championship but were unsuccessful in capturing their second NBA championship.

Larry Bird sends Boston to the 1987 NBA Finals
Bird played all 48 minutes of game 7 of the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals at Boston Garden against the Detroit Pistons. Not only did he finish the game with 37 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists, but he also completely dominated the last six minutes of the game. Bird was involved in every Celtics basket during that key stretch, except for Danny Ainge's last basket shown here. An incredible display of talent and clutch.

1980 NBA Finals: Lakers at Sixers, Gm 6 part 7/10
Game 6 - Lakers 123, 76ers 107 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar didn't make the trip back to Philadelphia for Game 6, after Lakers team doctors said he would not be able to play. With Spencer Haywood still suspended, the Lakers lacked a center, so coach Paul Westhead turned to Magic Johnson. The 6-foot-9 rookie guard took the opening tip at center, with Michael Cooper replacing him in the starting lineup at guard. The game was back-and-forth in the first half, with both teams taking big leads before ending up tied at 60. The Lakers opened the second half on a 14-0 run, sparked by Jamaal Wilkes, who scored 16 of his 37 points in the third quarter. The 76ers got within two points twice but never got any closer, and the Lakers ended the game on a 20-6 run, with Johnson leading the fast break. Johnson, one year removed from leading Michigan State to a national title in college, took advantage of his mismatches on the offensive end, scoring 42 points, including a perfect 14-of-14 night from the free-throw line. He also had 15 rebounds, seven assists and three steals, earning series MVP honors. Johnson finished the series averaging 21.5 ppg, 11.2 rpg and 8.7 apg. Lakers power forward Jim Chones helped fill in for Abdul-Jabbar on the defensive end, holding Darryl Dawkins to 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking two shots. Julius Erving led the 76ers with 27 points in the losing effort. When the NBA compilied its list of the 60 Greatest Playoff Moments to coincide ...

Raheim BROWN
PF / 2m08 / 1979 / USA
A good guy, with a great attitude and very coachable; knows how to play for his team. Has a real multifaceted game, which is a rarity for a man of his size. His natural talent and athleticism allows him to do some of the things that are his strengths. His strengths are defense and blocks. His quickness and 7”2 wingspan, enables him to guard small forwards, as well as Power Forwards/ Centers. Good instincts as to where rebounds come off the rim, along with his quickness enables him to get lots of loose balls and rebounds.
Runs like a deer for a man of his size. A great leaper, and a natural scorer that plays inside/out. A proficient shooter, scores in the flow of the game.
His best is on the alley-oops and slashes, which allows him to be effective with or without the ball. Good hands and knows how to serve the open man.
Shoots the 3, and can go 1-on-1 to create his own shot.

2001-02 Los Angeles Lakers Championship Season Part 4/4
With a third consecutive NBA Championship squarely in their sights, the Los Angeles Lakers opened the 2001-02 regular season much like they ended the 2000-01 campaign, with a flourish. Despite injuries to Derek Fisher (stress fracture; right foot) and Mark Madsen (fractured left wrist and abdominal strain), the team registered victories in their first seven games and 16-of-17 to start the season. The Lakers became only the 11th team to start a season with wins in 16 of their first 17 games and the first since the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls. Gone from the 2001 Championship team were Ron Harper, Horace Grant, Tyronn Lue and Greg Foster, to be replaced by Lindsey Hunter, Samaki Walker and Mitch Richmond. Led by Richmond, a six-time All-Star, the Lakers acquired three veterans who had combined for 28040 points and 26 seasons of experience. Those new faces would be relied upon early as Walker was immediately installed into the lineup at power forward and Hunter was counted on to replace Fisher until he recovered from injury. After their quick start, the Lakers pace slowed as they went 17-12 over their next 19 games and with a mark of 33-13 at the All-Star Break, trailed the Sacramento Kings by 2 ½ games in the Pacific Division standings. Shaquille O'Neal, who had been battling a foot injury throughout the season, returned from a stint on the injured list shortly after the All-Star break and earned Western Conference Player of the Week honors in two of the first three weeks after ...
