BIA Govt worker excessively speeds
video was captured on Feb 16 2012 at 3:20PM This Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) employee was speeding though an active school zone at Ch'ooshgai Elementary in Tohatchi, NM. I was doing 15MPH he was doing about 27 MPH. Later I caught up to him and filmed him speeding through a construction zone. Plates: GS3 2263L I used to be a Federal Government employee and I distinctly recall that during the Federal Government defensive driving course, all Federal employees are required to drive the speed limit. Additionally, the required code of conduct is that all federal employee actions are taken with scrutiny due to them being a representative of the United States Federal Government. apparently this guy doesn't care as he swerves around the NM State vehicle traveling northbound on NM highway 491. He turns off at the Burnham road in Newcomb, NM.

Native American Leader Dennis Banks on Overlooked Tragedy of US Indian Boarding Schools
DemocracyNow.org - On "Columbus Day" -- known to many as Indigenous Peoples Day -- we're joined by Dennis Banks, a legendary Native American activist from the Ojibwa Tribe. In 1968, he co-founded the American Indian Movement. A year later he took part in the occupation of Alcatraz Island in California. In 1972 he assisted in AIM's "Trail of Broken Treaties," a caravan of numerous activist groups across the United States to Washington, DC, to call attention to the plight of Native Americans. That same year AIM took over the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) building in Washington, DC In early 1973, AIM members took over and occupied Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for 71 days, which some have come to call Wounded Knee II. Earlier this year, he led a cross country walk from Alcatraz to Washington calling for the release of imprisoned Native American activist Leonard Peltier. Banks share his thoughts about "Columbus Day", the US treatment of American Indians, and his own story of growing up in the Bureau of Indian Affairs boarding school system. [Teaser 2010] Tonianne Baca-Green: Laughter Yoga as a Conflict Management Tool at the Bureau of Indian Affairs
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is a large federal agency with a lot of conflict. In 2009, Tonianne Baca-Green was tasked with training the agency, nationwide, on Conflict Management, which includes processes like mediation, Interest-based Negotiation and effective communication. Recent research in the field of social neuroscience-the study of what happens in the brain while people interact-shows what is even more important is laughter! Studies show that top-performing leaders elicited laughter from their subordinates three times as often, as did mid-performing leaders. Being in a good mood helps people take in information effectively and respond nimbly and creatively. In other words, laughter is serious business!”
Tonianne Baca-Green is an attorney and a yoga teacher. People usually laugh when they hear this. Both pursuits caused her to be very, very serious and closed. Laughter Yoga opened her up. As a Mediator and a non-violent communications trainer (the yoga of speech) she found that Laughter Yoga provides an experiential way of connecting with compassion and light-heartedness. This is exactly what is needed in teaching federal bureaucrats how to effectively manage conflict and find joy and connection even at work. Tonianne is also a certified Laughter Yoga professional.

Indian Affairs Preview
Buy the book from Amazon here! www.amazon.com Written by the prolific author Parris Afton Bonds! Turning conventional wisdom on its head, Washington socialite Alessandra O'Quinn and her lover, Indian shaman Manuel Mondragon, defy time and space and politics and families to come together in the sweeping canvas of the 1920's New Mexico outpost of Taos. Can they defy Destiny to stay together? This tempo molto largo historical follows Alessandra O'Quinn, who has been exiled to Taos to either recover from tuberculosis or die. Manuel Mandragon, battles for her health and her love. She in turn battles the Bureau of Indian Affairs for the Taos Indians' right to their sacred Blue Lake -- and battles her father and her husband and brother for her right to autonomy. Against this historical backdrop pass Mabel Dodge Luhan, Willa Cather, Dr. Carl Jung, Georgia O'Keeffe, and DH Lawrence, among other prominent personages of the day.
