U-Boats In The Gulf
In 1942, with the US military still gearing for battle, Hitler brought the war to America. In a little known mission, dozens of Nazi U-boats penetrated the Gulf of Mexico, attacking and sinking numerous merchant freighters and oil tankers. While experts thought they knew most of what went on there, their theories were challenged in 2001 when an underwater survey team discovered the wreck of U-166 on the Gulf's seafloor--over 140 miles distant from where records said she sank.

Type XXI Elektroboat U-Boat Wunderwaffe "Wonder Weapon"
CORRECTIONS TO PAGE ONE: Type XXI U-boats "Elektroboote" After World War II, the victorious powers (US, UK, Soviet Union)copied the German design for the Type XXI, which is considered the first real submarine. CORRECTIONS TO PAGE TWO: The Type XXI arrived too late for combat, but was used to rescue many German civilians from the Soviet Red Army and the constant Allied bomber attacks on German cities. This happened in violation of Hitler's orders which stated that no civilians were to be be allowed aboard u-boats for any reason, even for rescue.

MAN U-boat diesel engine Running
Running MAN WW1 diesel egine at 375 RPM producing 430 HP. This is a world war 1 U-boat engine build in 1917 by Blom & Voss in Hamburg to operate in a german submarine. However this engine never made it into a U-boat as the war was running to an end. The engine was stored en transfered to Holland during World War 2 to operate as a generator egine in a water supplying company where it was producing power up to the 1960's. It's a four stroke engine with six cilinders and a overhead camshaft. The exhaust valves are water cooled. Attached to the engine is a four step, high pressure air compressor which provides about 80 Atm neccesary for the diesel injection as common fuel pomps where not developed yet.

Ted's Type 9 U-Boat is armed with torpedoes and looking for a target. Ted's U-Boat finds Brians HMCS Bonaventure and takes it on. Note the moving planes on the deck of the Bonnie. Both RC boats are quite impressive.

U-Boat / Das Boot Tribute Video (music by Klaus Doldinger)
This is a tribute to all the men who served in the U-Boat service during world war II. These men were incredibly brave. I made this video using original & rare photographs and music by Klaus Doldinger from the epic series/film 'Das Boot' . When I first saw 'Das Boot' it gave me a different perspective of World War II, it was intriguing to look at the situation from the German point of view. I'm an Englishman but I very much wanted the U-96 and her crew to make it back home, I believe thats what makes 'Das Boot' so special.

Discovered: Hitler's secret escape U-boat Type XIB sunk off Cape Cod on 25th August 1944
Edward Michaud discovers German Type XIB U-Boat off Cape Cod - Project CA35 (1998). Tony Gosling, Edward Michaud. Hitler's secret escape sub Type XIB sunk off Cape Cod on 25th August 1944 while attempting to negotiate early end to WWII en route to Argentina Apologies for the somewhat sloppy interview technique here but I think you'll agree the historic content makes it all worthwhile. see also Martin Bormann Post-War Nazi 4th Reich Financial Network spitfirelist.com 911forum.org.uk Nazis fleeing Germany in 1944 used this unique submarine with a massive cargo hold (to carry gold?) in an attempt to secretly escape to the United States and thence to Argentina. They never made it past Cape Cod where the sub was sunk with depth charges dropped by a US Navy blimp. The sub was jamming radio frequencies which was unfortunate, if the blimp's radio had been working it would have almost cretainly been told NOT to sink the sub. Recorded by Tony Gosling in Framingham Mass. December 1998. See also www.combatsim.com Very little is known about the Type XI-B U-Boat. All official histories state that the vessel type was never built and numerous publications indicate that the Type XI-B submarine design went only as far as a preliminary 'keel laying' at the building yards of Deschimag - AG Weser in Bremen, Germany. However, there is a subtle hint that at least one vessel of this type was indeed launched from the Deschimag yards. Contained within the records of the Military archive at ...

From the Cover: The scourge of the Atlantic Ocean during World War II, Hitlers U-boat Wolf Packs were described by Winston Churchill as his greatest fear. And these roving bands of submarines quickly became the biggest threat to England, cutting the country off from vital supply routes and almost starving it into submission.

WWII German U-Boats & Battle of the Atlantic
Buy U-Boat Insignia T-Shirts thewaryears.co.uk During World War II U-boat warfare was the major component of the Battle of the Atlantic (1939--1945), which lasted the duration of the war. Germany had the largest submarine fleet in World War II. In the early stages of the war, the U-boats were extremely effective in destroying Allied shipping, initially in the mid-Atlantic, where there was a large gap in air cover. As the British developed anti-submarine countermeasures the Germans responded by hunting in so-called "wolf packs" where multiple U-boats worked together to attack an Allied shipping convoy. U-boats spent most of their time on the surface running on diesel engines rather than using battery power when submerged, diving only when attacked or for rare daytime torpedo strikes. Generally U-boats attacked ships while on the surface using their deck gun, although by war's end 3000 Allied ships (175 warships and 2825 merchant ships) had been sunk by German torpedoes. The Allies ability to read many Kriegsmarine (German Navy) Enigma codes, strategic bombing, and ever-improving countermeasures meant that finally the U-boat fleet suffered extremely heavy casualties. The Kriegsmarine lost 793 U-boats and about 28000 submariners during the war years - a 75% casualty rate, the highest of all German forces during the conflict.
