Longitude (2000) TV - Jeremy Irons (Rupert Gould)
Jeremy Irons : Rupert Gould I only hope you enjoy this Video. The film's main story is that of craftsman John Harrison: he built a clock that would do the job, what we would now call a marine chronometer. But the Board of Longitude was biased against this approach and claiming the prize was no simple matter. Told in parallel is the 20th century story of Rupert Gould, for whom the restoration of Harrison's clocks to working order became first a hobby, then an obsession that threatened to wreck his life.

APOLLO 10 launch, relive this fantastic launch on TV, ABC News coverage, May 18, 1969
The second voyage to the moon, lunar module (LEM) landing test mission. NASA INFO: Launch Preparations The terminal countdown was picked up at 01:00:00 GMT on 17 May 1969 and proceeded with no unscheduled holds. The primary LOX replenish pump failed to start at T-8 hours due to a blown fuse in the pump motor starter circuit. Troubleshooting and fuse replacement delayed LOX loading by 50 minutes but it was completed by T-4 hours 22 minutes. The lost time was made up during the scheduled 1-hour hold at T-3 hours 30 minutes. A high pressure cell in the Atlantic Ocean off the New England coast caused southeasterly surface winds and brought moisture into the Cape Canaveral area, which contributed to overcast conditions. At launch time, cumulus clouds covered 40 percent of the sky (base 2200 feet), altocumulus covered 20 percent (base 11000 feet), and cirrus covered 100 percent (base not recorded); the temperature was 80.1° F; the relative humidity was 75 percent; and the barometric pressure was 14.779 lb/in2. The winds, as measured by the anemometer on the light pole 60.0 feet above ground at the launch site, measured 19.0 knots at 142° from true north. Ascent Phase Apollo 10 was launched from Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39, Pad B, at a Range Zero time of 16:49:00 GMT (12:49:00 pm EDT) on 18 May 1969, and was the first piloted launch from this pad. The launch window extended to 21:09 GMT to take advantage of a sun elevation angle on the lunar surface of 11°. Between ...

A History of the World in 100 Seconds
Many wikipedia articles have coordinates. Many have references to historic events. Me (@godawful) and Tom Martin (@heychinaski) cross referenced the two to create a dynamic visualization of Wikipedia's view of world history. Watch as empires fall, wars break out and continents are discovered.
This won "Best Visualization" at Matt Patterson's History Hackday in January, 2011. To make it, we parsed an xml dump of all wikipedia articles (30Gb) and pulled out 424,000 articles with coordinates and 35,000 references to events. Cross referencing these produced 15,500 events with locations. Then we mapped them over time.

Isora

Preview of the documentary "Isora, story of a pod of pilot whales," in which it is narrated the life of a pod of pilot whales living in Canary Islands, as well as their space and the residents sharing that space. It is financed by the Canarian Foundation Mapfre Guanarteme and produced by Aquawork Productions, and it will be presented at the end of 2012.
Isora is the matriarch of one of the pods of tropical pilot whales living in the Eastern coast of the island of Tenerife. This area of the sea is sheltered from trade wind, and this cause the sea to become calm for the most part of the year.
Despite of its size and shape, the tropical pilot whale (Globicephala Macrorhynchus), is a dolphin related to killer whales. Males can reach five metres long, one metre more than females, but they weigh twice as heavy. They live in closely related pods and most of their members live together for life.

AntiMap Video application: Unofficial snowboard edit
Music: The XX - Intro (1984 remix) http://soundcloud.com/the1984/the-xx-intro-1984-remix.
My aim for this project is to simulate video game style visualisations by gathering real-time rider data and post analyzing with video synchronization.
HOW IT WORKS:
I used an Android phone (HTC Sensation) with a custom built application (AntiMap Log), placed upright against my lead hip/waist inside my pants to log all the stats and information. This position is the most stable and yields the most accurate results for spinning/rotation when snowboarding. Just placing it in any of your pockets works fine for everything else except rotation as it moves around when loose.
Video was captured with a Go Pro camera. In the first segment of the video I had it attached to my helmet, and in the next segment I'm just holding it (I forgot the camera strap - idiot!). Whilst I decided to film myself for these early tests, having someone else do the filming would be ideal.
So data and video are recorded separately to keep the riding experience as unaffected as possible. Then once your pow riding day is over and you've recorded that perfect run, you can synchronise your video and data easily with the AntiMap Video desktop application and play it all back.
POTENTIAL USES:
- Real time snowboard/ski games. I was originally inspired for this project by playing Shaun White snowboarding on Nintendo Wii.
- Making personal snow/ski movies.
- Training/tutoring tool.
- Competitions. I’d love to see technology like this used in an accompanying role at televised events such as the Winter X Games. Giving spectators a bit more insight through data and stats would be invaluable.
- Whilst I specifically built this application for snow/ski, it could just as easily be adapted to suit other sports such as mountain biking, skateboarding, parkour, gymnastics, even running or walking.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Data is gathered through a smart phone utility application built in Processing called ‘AntiMap Log’. The application logs latitude, longitude, compass direction, speed, distance, and time to a standard CSV file at 30fps. Currently Android only, iPhone version is under development.
The post analysis application, ‘AntiMap Video’ is a desktop application built in Openframeworks. It allows the logged data from the mobile application to be synced with video footage (not captured with phone). The standout feature of the AntiMap Video application is spin detection, which uses the compass data to accumulate a rotation value and attempt to determine when a 360, 540, 720, 900, 1080 has occurred and which direction (frontside/backside). The rider’s path and current position is graphically generated from the recorded latitude and longitude into a mini map. Speed, distance, and time stats also update on screen.
AntiMap Video is still an early working prototype at the moment, but I will be continuing development and improving before making it available for download. Application and source code will be released free under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/). This is the first of a few free applications I plan on releasing for the AntiMap project which visualize logged data from the mobile application.
I’m a little disappointed I was unable to find my perfect run and had to Frankenstein together videos to show different parts of the applications functionality. But overall I’m happy with the results of the tests.

Aero-TV: GPS Data On Your iPAD - Guardian Avionics Bluetooth Aero 454
Ash Vij Expands The Capabilities Of His Product Line In An Imaginative (And Useful) Way Its one thing to come up with a unique product... say, like the amazing CO Guardian product line sold for a number of years by Ash Vij and his CO Guardian organization... but its something else entirely to take that same technology and repurpose it in new, useful and highly creative ways. Like he has with the Aero 454. Guardian Avionics' (by CO Guardian, LLC.) newest instrument for 21st century panels, the Aero 454, receives data from your airplane's Garmin GPS system (430, 530, 650750,G900, G1000) and transmits it simultaneously to as many as THREE iPad/tablet devices held by pilots or passengers. An FAA/TSO certified product, it can reference locations, maps, flight plans in the Panel Mounted GPS's, approaches, departures, etc. on your iPad/tablet. There is no GPS signal loss because of banking or a heated windshield and will delight your passengers with ETA through their iPad - eliminating those "Are we there yet?" questions, because it interfaces with 21st century iPads/tablets like nothing else can. The Aero 454 (with CO detector) mounts easily in most panels; though CO Guardian units are factory installed in all new Cessna 172, 182, 206, 350, 400, Cirrus SR20, SR22, Diamond DA40 and Skycrane helicopter models. Staying in touch with its roots, the Model 454 device is also designed to detect, measure, and provide alerts to the crew of reciprocating engine type aircraft before the ...

Tour the Original M*A*S*H TV Set in HD
As with many Generation Xers, I remember seeing MASH on CBS, and watching the reruns. In my case, it was usually after the 10 pm news that I tuned in to watch the show throughout the mid-80's. I happened to be by Malibu Creek State Park on a recent visit to the Los Angeles area and decided to take the 2.1 mile hike to the famous outside TV set and take some video. I hope you enjoy it. Of note, the indoor shots were filmed on Stage 9 at Twentieth Century Fox Studios in California. The park is located four miles south of Highway 101 on Las Virgenes / Malibu Canyon Road. Latitude/Longitude: 34.1033 / -118.7331 about 25 miles from LA The park is part of the Santa Monica mountains near Malibu in Calabasas. If you want to learn more about M*A*S*H and the site, I suggest the following links: Visiting the MASH Set and Malibu Creek State Park www.malibucreekstatepark.org www.hikespeak.com www.yelp.com Learning about M*A*S*H en.wikipedia.org www.imdb.com www.youtube.com
