Big Picture: Inland Waterways
Big Picture: Inland Waterways - National Archives and Records Administration - ARC Identifier 2569637 / Local Identifier 111-TV-368 - DVD Copied by Katie Filbert - Department of Defense. Department of the Army. Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. US Army Audiovisual Center. (ca. 1974 - 05/15/1984). COMBAT INFANTRYMEN TAKE TO THE WATERWAYS IN ALASKA TO ACCOMPLISH MISSION -- This is a filmed documentary about a river in Alaska which can serve as a military highway during the summer. The operation as assigned to combat infantrymen was a simulated attack on an Aggressor-held bridge. The distance to be covered was 100 miles by river, bivouacking one night en route. THE BIG PICTURE Signal Corps cameramen accompanied this small combat unit as it moved down this fast inland waterway on this most unusual training mission. On the screen, it looks like a kind of little flotilla deep in the heart of Alaska. There is danger at every turn and the cameramen capture on film all of the navigation skill learned by these combat troops. Broken-field running through river obstacles requires alertness and navigating skill. One error in judgment and you can kiss the mission goodbye. And the trickiest thing about it is that rivers change from month to month. There can never be any certainty of what lies ahead. In Alaska during the summer months, the Army makes full use of navigable inland waterways--another forward step in strengthening our Arctic bulwark in the Free World's line ...

Inland Waterways Association of Ireland Dublin Rally 2012 - Canal Boats
Royal Canal Lock beside the Convention Centre is the beginning of an exciting journey organized by the Inland Waterways Association Of Ireland (IWAI Dublin Rally 2012) The Royal Canal is a canal originally built for freight and passenger transportation from the River Liffey at Dublin to the River Shannon at Cloondara in County Longford in Ireland. It fell into disrepair, but has since been restored for navigation. The full length of the canal was re-opened on 1 October 2010. The Inland Waterways Association of Ireland is a voluntary body of inland waterways enthusiasts. They advocate the use, maintenance, protection, restoration and improvement of the inland waterways of Ireland. The association was founded in 1954 to campaign for the conservation and development of the waterways and in particular their preservation as working navigations. When the Shannon was almost totally undeveloped for pleasure boating, IWAI fought the building of low bridges, thus ensuring the development of the river as an asset for all to use and enjoy. In the 1960s IWAI successfully fought plans to close the Circular Line of the Grand Canal in Dublin. Later the association campaigned for the re-opening of the Ballinamore & Ballyconnell Canal (now the Shannon-Erne Waterway) and the Naas line of the Grand Canal. Their formal Goals are stated below. IWAI is the voice of waterways users and enthusiasts. It represents the views of members to governments (NI & RoI), to Waterways Ireland and other ...

Intercoastal Waterway 5.6.3
The Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) is a series of tributaries generally running parallel along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts. The ICW runs from New Jersey to Texas. Navigation aids along the ICW are the same as any other US waterway, with the exception of yellow markings. The yellow markings override the shape or color of the lateral markers they are affixed on, and indicate the route of the ICW.
