S'pore households' median monthly income rises - 14Feb2012
SINGAPORE: Singapore households were better off last year, as the median monthly household income per member rose to S$1990, from S$1850 in 2010. In nominal terms, that was an increase of 7.9 per cent. In real terms, it was a 2.7 per cent rise. These figures are for resident households with at least one working member. Household income from work refers to the total income received by all members of a household from employment and business and excludes salaries of maids, rental income and dividends. The Department of Statistics (DOS) said in its latest report, 'Key Household Characteristics and Household Income Trends, 2011', released on Tuesday that the increase was the sharpest for the lower-income group. The lowest 10 per cent of households saw the highest percentage growth in average monthly household income per member. The increase was 11 per cent in nominal terms and 5.8 per cent in real terms. As for total household income, median monthly household income from work increased from S$6340 in 2010 to S$7040 in 2011 - an 11 per cent growth in nominal terms or 5.6 per cent in real terms. The top 10 per cent of households saw the highest percentage growth in average monthly household income of 14 per cent in nominal terms or 7.9 per cent in real terms. Between 2001 and 2011, the median monthly household income from work per household member of resident employed households rose by 20 per cent in real terms. Most of the gains came between 2006 and 2011. On a total household ...

Real Estate Marketing - Down Payment Assistance, $8000 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit - Part 2
realestatemarketingthisweek.com - Real Estate Marketing - The median income family can afford twice the median priced home - With Michael J Barnes and Dan Havey of Real Estate Marketing This Week Part 2 - And now I mentioned Dan Havey is back in the studio with us, Dan has done a lot of great things in the mortgage industry. He left us about a year and a half ago, is that right Dan? Yes, I left the mortgage industry in October of 2007. Tell us a little bit more about yourself. As you know I came originally from Wisconsin, where I got a degree in Business Finance and I came out here in 1989 and started working with my brother selling real estate owned-REO, bank owned properties for Fannie Mae, Countrywide, and the Resolution Trust Corporation-RTC which was the government entity that was put in charge of disposing of all the real estate owned by the 1800 S&Ls; that had failed. I did that until about 1995 when I moved into the mortgage industry and there for 12 years I worked predominately with bankruptcy attorneys helping their clients get out of bankruptcy and foreclosure. I left the mortgage industry in October of 2007. Now I am working predominately in the arena of marketing for real estate and mortgage companies, helping out companies, just like Im here helping out Michael today, to get people to realize that right now actually is a really good time to buy. There are a couple of points I want to make and it was something that Michael had said earlier. The first one was ...

ShadowStats' John Williams Explains Why It's All Been Downhill Since 1973
"If you look at the government's latest statistics - the poverty survey of 2009, which is the most recent release, with average and median household income adjusted for inflation (and they use a really gimmick low inflation rate with that one) - it shows that not only has household income been falling the last year or two, but it's below its near-term peak before the 2001 recession. Household income has not recovered above that, and if you use the CPI-U (the usual inflation rate to deflate that by instead of the gimmick one) it shows that household income today is below where it was in 1973. Again, the average household has not been able to keep up here. If income growth is not keeping ahead of inflation, very simply you can't have consumption growing faster than inflation on a sustainable basis." Government statistics guru John Williams believes the most important economic indicators used by our political leaders in their decison-making - the Consumer Price Index, the unemployment rate, the Gross Domestic Product - are deeply flawed in how they're calculated. Whether these flaws result from letting theory trump reality or by machinating politicians, the result is the same: we are fooling ourselves at our peril. We have been understating the risks we face - which is why we are working harder for less today than the previous generation, and why our economy is not only not in "recovery" - but on the precipice of crisis. This podcast was first published on March 2, 2011 on ...

Occupy St.Louis
Oct 11th Occupy St.Louis (Great people) We got so deep into the atmosphere we werent able to capture everyone that came out for the cause..But there will be many more chances. Were gonna be Downtown everyday trying to speak with and interview people on their collective viewpoints in hopes to send a positive signal that St.Louis support for the occupy movement is thriving -n- Growing...
The occupy movement is the middle and lower class fight against corporate America’s greed. Trillions of dollars have been invested in the past decade or more into war, bank bailouts and political campaigns. Millions of Americans have lost their homes to foreclosure, public school education is under-funded and college tuition prices are rising by the hundreds and thousands each and every year.
By this point, consider yourself lucky if your family still has their home and jobs, and you have obtained a degree without debt and a great job to follow, if you could even make it to college in the first place. While our family members struggle to hold on to jobs, retirement, health care and homes, young people must wake up now and realize that this recession will affect us even more than our older loved ones. The trillions of dollars that make up U.S. debt will fall onto our shoulders, and things simply will not get cheaper or easier unless we stand up for our rights now. If tuition rates continue to rise at this same speed, it will cost $340,000 to attend a private college in 18 years, and that doesn’t include room and board. I’m sorry, did you say your kid was going to college? Right…
Meanwhile, Wall Street traders and “banksters” have been juggling our hard-earned money around to earn maximum profit, at our expense. As Rolling Stone reported, “…in 2008, a barrel of oil was traded 27 times, on average, before it was actually delivered and consumed.” These “bets” on our market drive the price of our goods up, falsely. It gets worse. In addition to personal profits made through trading, these banksters take home more than 18 times as much money in median income than the rest of America. Bank of America rewarded a whopping $35 billion in bonuses and compensation to its employees last year. Wow.
In 2010, $900 Billion US tax dollars were spent on war. In June 2011, $6.6B tax dollars were completely lost. This money was supposed to be spent on reconstructing Iraq, and the U.S. government was the last to have their hands on it. Still, a total of 4, 477 troops have died as of June 2011. These are all Iraq war statistics, and don’t even include Afghanistan. Yet of course, since 9/11, more than $1 trillion tax dollars have been set aside for war alone.
Still, The net worth of black households fell by 53% in 2009, and hispanics suffered a whopping 66% drop while white households dropped a mere 15%. Additionally, white households had a median income of $107,472 more than black households in that same year. Nonetheless, the average American has suffered greatly over the past 4 years, but the minority groups are clearly hurting tremendously.

Slots: Video Gambling in West Virginia
In 2001 Governor of West Virginia, Bob Wise, launched the slots-in-bars initiative, allowing most establishments with a liquor license to install five video lottery machines. Since then gambling revenue has stimulated the economy on West Virginia, which has the second lowest median income per household in the United States. However a divide remains between those who believe the machines have improved life and those who feel their communities have lost a bit of their souls.

US Health-Care Costs Outstrip Household Income Gains
Dec. 27 (Bloomberg) -- US health-insurance costs are rising more quickly than the ability of US families to pay and the gap is widening, according to the Commonwealth Fund. Private-insurance premiums for families rose three times faster than median household income over six years, the New York-based non-profit fund said in a report.
