A Man for All Seasons - The Devil Speech
From Robert Bolt's "A Man for All Seasons," this is Sir Thomas More's speech about the primacy of man's laws over God's laws. I feel this is especially relevant today in the torture debate and for those who would like to add the word "extralegal" to our collective vocabulary...

A Man for All Seasons - Trailer [1966] [39th Oscar Best Picture]
The story takes place in 16th century England. But men like Sir Thomas More, who love life yet have the moral fiber to lay down their lives for their principles, are found in every century. Concentrating on the last seven years of English chancellor's life, the struggle between More and his King, Henry VIII, hinges on Henry's determination to break with Rome so he can divorce his current wife and wed again, and good Catholic More's inability to go along with such heresy. More resigns as chancellor, hoping to be able to live out his life as a private citizen. But Henry will settle for nothing less than that the much respected More give public approval to his headstrong course. A Matter of Conscience: Henry VIII and Thomas More (clip)
Based on "A Man For All Seasons" by Robert Bolt, the clash between Sir Thomas More (Paul Scofield) and Henry VIII (Robert Shaw) is brilliantly presented, as More refuses to sanction Henry's manipulation to make himself head of the Church of England. The climactic scene in the halls of Parliament as More faces the men who will eventually condemn him is one of the most memorable ever filmed. Specially edited by LCA from the Fred Zinnemann feature "A Man For All Seasons," winner of the Academy Award for best picture of 1966. Vita Nostra - Ennio Morricone (Latin & English subtitles) The Mission - Jeremy Irons, Robert De Niro
A New Life for Rodrigo Mendoza. Una nueva vida. La vie nouvelle. *** Disclaimer: I do not own the copyright to the underlying material included in this video, but I have provided the Latin subtitles & translation for education purposes only, in the hopes that it will enhance the understanding of this amazing film and its breathtaking musical score. I cannot in good faith say that this video is for educational purposes only, as the clip itself has an inherent dramatic, spiritual and artistic value that far exceeds my small contribution here. I am personally and spiritually indebted to the creators of this work--Ennio Morricone for the hauntingly beautiful musical compositions, and Robert Bolt, Roland Joffé, the Waunana et al. for making the film "The Mission." I cannot say how many times over how many years I have listened to this music, and how much time I have spent contemplating the meaning of this tragedy. It is my sincere hope that anyone who encounters this work of art here will go on to see it in a theater, or purchase the film on DVD--it is something filled with Beauty and Truth that you will want to make a part of your moral and spiritual life.

A Man For All Seasons - Original Trailer
One of the most beautifully understated movies ever to come out of the UK, Fred Zinnemann's monumental direction of Robert Bolt's original screenplay boasted a cast of real breadth and depth, with the truly outstanding Paul Scofield at its head giving a beautifully understated performance as Thomas More, who stood up to King Henry VIII when the King rejected the Roman Catholic Church to obtain a divorce and remarriage. The film won 6 Oscars, with Best actor for Scofield - surely the most deserved of any - among them. It's a quietly powerful morality story of principal over political expedience that the modern generations of political animal would do well to take notice of. If you haven't seen this film yet, you really have missed a treat. Watch it. Now.

B0U /\/ TY, THE 1 1984
TheB0U /\/ TY, THE is the third screen version of one of the best-known stories in naval history, here with Anthony Hopkins as Lieutenant William Bligh and Mel Gibson as Fletcher Christian heading an extraordinary cast including Laurence Olivier, Edward Fox, Daniel Day-Lewis, Liam Neeson, Bernard Hill and Dexter Fletcher. HMS Bounty's voyage to Tahiti of 1787-9 and its infamous consequences are recounted with far greater historical accuracy than in the 1935 or 1962 Mutiny on the Bounty. The movie is gorgeously shot on location in Tahiti, England and New Zealand as well as on a full-size recreation of the original Bounty. Roger Donaldson's film benefits from a literate screenplay by Robert Bolt, who here as in Lawrence of Arabia (1962), brings real insight into the English institutional mind in conflict. Hopkins is at his complex best and Gibson offers more depth than his usual two-dimensional hero persona; here Bligh and Christian emerge as complex men gripped by circumstances beyond their control. The haunting score by Vangelis contributes immensely to a very underrated film which deserves to be considered a modern classic
