Hell-Bent For Election was a 1944 two-reel (thirteen minute) animated cartoon short subject now in the public domain. The short was one of the first major films from United Productions of America (then known as "Industrial Films"), which would go on to become the most influential animation studio of the 1950s. As UPA did not have a full staff or a studio location until the late-1940s, this film was made in animator Zack Schwartz's apartment with the help of moonlighters from various local Hollywood animation studios. Among the moonlighters was Chuck Jones, who directed the film. The film is an allegorical campaign film, designed to inspire viewers to register and to vote for Franklin D. Roosevelt. The Democratic Party candidate, Roosevelt, is depicted as a then-modern streamlined steam locomotive, the Win the War Special, pulling a high-speed freight train of war materiel, whereas his Republican opponent Thomas E. Dewey is depicted as an old creaky steam locomotive, the Defeatist Limited (numbered 1929 as a nod to the 1929 stock market crash) pulling cars variously representing hot air, high prices, taxes, business as usual ( a sleeper car), poor housing for war workers, and finally a caboose named "Jim Crow." The conflict in the film centers on Joe, a railroad switch operator who represents the American voting public. He is warned by the station master, Sam (a representation of Uncle Sam), not to fall asleep at the switch as he did in November 1942. Joe must then decide ...

Universal Studio Video Guide (California, US)
Universal Pictures (sometimes called Universal City Studios or Universal Studios for short), a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, is one of the six major movie studios. Founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle,[1] it is one of the oldest American movie studios still in continuous production. On May 11, 2004, the controlling stake in the company was sold by Vivendi Universal to General Electric, parent of NBC.[2] The resulting media super-conglomerate was renamed NBC Universal, while Universal Studios Inc. remained the name of the production subsidiary. In addition to owning a sizable film library spanning the earliest decades of cinema to more contemporary works, it also owns a sizable collection of TV shows through its subsidiary NBC Universal Television Distribution. It also acquired rights to several prominent filmmakers' works originally released by other studios through its subsidiaries over the years.

Animation Archives - Episode 2: My Neighbor Totoro
The Animation Archives presented by Gonzo Planet. In this episode I talk about My Neighbor Totoro, the film that put Studio Ghibli on the map. (SPOILER WARNING) I will be discussing major story beats, so if you haven't watched the film, I suggest you watch it before seeing this video. This video is more about exploring the themes of the film, rather than deconstructing the narrative. I do not own the footage used in this video. The footage belongs to Studio Ghibli Inc.

"CBGB" Movie Filming in Savannah (with Alan Rickman)
..." style="float: right; margin-right: -5px;">
Here's the news article by the Savannah Morning News: By Jason Kendall When Savannah stands in for skid row New York later this month, it will get some help in terms of authenticity. The actual bar — and toilets — of iconic club CBGB will be shipped here and installed on the set of the rock movie that's borrowing its name, "CBGB" producers said Thursday. It's part of a meticulous process that's already transforming the interior of local Meddin Studios into an exact replica of the hallowed birthplace of punk rock. "We're bringing in the original bar and the toilets — those famous toilets," producer and co-writer Jody Savin explained. "Graffiti and all." Click here to read about a "Twilight" star joining the cast of "CBGB." "The shell should be ready by Monday for us to start moving things in," added Nick Gant, Meddin's creative director, pointing out locations for the stage, mixing area and notorious bathroom on set. There's also a lowered area where producers will shoot false exteriors of the Bowery, with virtual New York looking north across Louisville Road, west of downtown Savannah. "People keep asking, 'Why Georgia instead of New York?'" Gant said. "New York is so expensive, so there's a real incentive here." SLIDESHOW: Click here to view photos of movies filmed in Savannah The film, which stars acclaimed English actor Alan Rickman as club owner Hilly Kristal, will begin shooting June 25, Savin said, and "last about five weeks — toward the end of July." That will be ...

Doctor Strange To Appear In 'Thor 2'?
bit.ly - Click to Subscribe! Facebook.com - Become a Fan! Twitter.com - Follow Us! The original Thor introduced us to Hawkeye in a cameo that lead to a major role in The Avengers and now rumors are circulating that another Marvel hero could be making his debut in Thor: The Dark World. According to Screen Rant, master magician Doctor Strange could be fighting alongside Thor in next year's sequel. If true, Doctor Strange, aka Dr. Stephen Strange would be introduced as a scientist working with Natalie Portman's Jane Foster in an attempt to learn about Thor and Asgard. This would be slightly different from the comics where he is a neurosurgeon, but highly plausible. The rumor suggests Strange would play a major role in the film rather than showing up in a simple cameo or in the end-credits scene. An appearance in Thor would most likely lead to a standalone film which Marvel already has a script for written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, who are behind not only 2011's Conan the Barbarian, but also screenplays for the planned Voltron and Uncharted movies. Keep in mind, Doctor Strange was one of the films rumored to be taking that August 1st, 2014 release date that ultimately went to Guardians of the Galaxy. Strange will most likely be making an appearance at some point and introducing him in Thor seems like a logical choice. As for which actor would take on the role of Doctor Strange? The Playlist previously reported that Warrior star Joel Edgerton was Marvel's ...
