Adventures in India - Hampi (Part 1)
Ronnie's Adventures in India: The Day at Hampi (My Favorite Day in India!) is presented in 2 parts - This is the first part! Be sure to watch the rest in part 2! Hampi is the old capital of the ancient Vijayanagara Empire and houses the Virupaksha Temple, as well as several other monuments belonging to the ancient city. It's also a place of natural beauty with jungles, mountains, rivers, and huge boulders everywhere! We had a fascinating day exploring this place, including a Holy Boat Trip on the Holy River Tungabhadra, and a Holy Climb up to the Top of the Holy Matanga Hill where we drank Holy Chai at the Holy Veerabhadra Temple with the Holy Monkeys!

Virupaksha Temple - Hampi, KARNATAKA...(Part 1)
Hampi sits on the banks of the Tungabhadra River in the ruins of the ancient city of Vijayanagar, capital of the Vijayanagara empire. Virupaksha Temple is the main center of pilgrimage at Hampi. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, known here as Virupaksha, as the consort of the local goddess Pampa who is associated with the Tungabhadra River. The temple has a 160-foot (49 m) high tower at its entrance. Apart from Shiva, the temple complex also contains shrines of the Hindu goddesses Bhuvaneshwari and Pampa.

Hampi's rich heritage
Hampi in Karnataka is a World Heritage Site. A magnificent ruined city - the capital of the Vijayanagar Empire - and an incredible experience for the visitor. It is about 400 kilometres from Bangalore, on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. Visitors usually base themselves in Hospet. To really see Hampi comfortably try to spend more than just a day here. It's usually very hot here - so this winter - during the Christmas or New Year break may be the best time to visit.

Hemkuta Hill & Tungbhadra river - Hampi, KARNATAKA...Part (2)
Nearby Virupaksha Temple - South of the temple rises Hemakuta Hill, a huge, sloping rock on which are still to be found Vijayanagara buildings in good shape. It is also a convenient place for observing the sunrise and sunset. All this area is known as the Sacred Center. The merging of the two rivers TUNGA river & BHADRA river at Koodli in Shimoga dist. of Karnataka, gives birth to the Tungbhadra river.Hampi is located on the south bank somewhere in the middle of this river's path. In this area the river takes a number of twists are turns owing to the rocky terrain. The river has immense significance in forming the political & religious history of Hampi.
