Racism at Huntersville/Birkdale Holiday Inn Express in North Carolina
Racism and discrimination is still very much alive in 2012, and apparently Holiday Inn supports that by having an employee like Debra Schmidt. This really bothers me. We have an African American President and have came through so much as black people that we should be much farther as Americans. So sad... But God had this happen to me because he knows I have a voice and know how to use it. Please spread the word and make a difference. Please post your complaints on the Holiday Inn FB Page and send emails to the below email addresses. We are Change NC Kicked out of Birkdale Villiage!
Eight members of WeAreChangeNC were forced to leave Birkdale Village in Huntersville yesterday. We were only there about fifteen minutes, braving the 27 degrees and gusting winds to simply walk through and hand out a few "Rock Creek Free Press" newspapers and then leave. But we were told by the fascist, jack-booted rent-a-cops, who were stationed on every corner, that we needed permission from the "Leasing Office" to both film and distribute information. So... we went to the Leasing Office, received permission to walk through, and distribute information, by a woman named Conney, although she did decline permission to film (we broke that one) However, upon leaving the Leasing Office we were immediately confronted by another gestapo/steroid injecting member of their elite security force, and he said he just spoke to the property manager, and wanted us to leave immediately. We do respect private property, although we were treated like criminals and sometimes it does require crossing into someone else's "perceived" private space to defend our rights, just as Rosa Parks proved December 1, 1955. Since the government is privatizing so much of what was once public space (that we the taxpayer paid for) we are running out of public places to distribute information. The time is now, we are the change we have been waiting for, and we will be the change we wish to see in the world, WeAreChange!

Birkdale Intermediate School NZ Promotion.flv
Birkdale Intermediate School has developed a thinking-based learning approach in social science, science, technology and The Arts. Our students use 'real world' problems to solve with no one right answer. Their work is assessed on the quality of their argument. Each unit has a particular thinking skill focus where the thinking is explicitly taught. Wikipedia - Project-based learning (PBL): best defined as instruction relating questions and technology relative to the students' everyday lives to classroom projects. Students form their own investigation of their own group which allows students to develop valuable research skills. The students engage in design, problem solving, decision making, and investigative activities. It allows students to work in groups or by themselves and allows them to come up with ideas and realistic solutions or presentations. Students take a problem and apply it to a real life situation with these projects. Project-based learning (PBL) provides complex tasks based on challenging questions or problems that involve the students' problem solving, decision making, investigative skills, and reflection that include teacher facilitation, but not direction. Project Based Learning is focused on questions that drive students to encounter the central concepts and principles of a subject hands-on. With Project-based learning students learn from these experiences and take them into account and apply them to their lives in the real world. PBL is a different ...

KiwiSport and Birkdale North School
KiwiSport programmes have been well used at Birkdale North School, and as principal Helen Varney explains, have significantly grown the number of kids on sport there. One such KiwiSport-funded programme is the Greater Auckland Aquatic Action Plan, which is a recently introduced swimming programme aiming to get more kids in the water. The Greater Auckland Aquatic Action Plan (GAAAP) What is it? GAAAP is a collaborative project that coordinates professionally-delivered swimming lessons to primary school children, ensuring the development of fundamental swimming and water safety skills. Who developed it? The Regional Sports Trust Alliance (RSTA) is a Charitable Trust established by the four Auckland Regional Sports Trusts (Sport Auckland, Sport Waitakere, Harbour Sport and Counties Manukau Sport), to engage as one entity with the Greater Auckland Community. It is under these auspices that Sport Auckland volunteered to manage and facilitate this project on behalf of ASB Community Trust and other potential funders. How was it developed? A timeline was developed which began with an initial open forum, represented by 27 'aquatically focused' organisations. From this a smaller Steering Group was established. This group included representation from Water Safety New Zealand, Swimming New Zealand, Water Safe Auckland, Community Leisure Management (CLM), Find your Field of Dreams (FYFOD) and Trent Bray Swim School. The Steering group presented its initial findings to the wider group ...
