Set against the backdrop of the signing of the 1921 Anglo-Irish Treaty, An Conradh documents a decisive seventy-two hour period in the history of the Irish nation.
It was a treaty between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and representatives of the secessionist Irish Republic that concluded the Irish War of Independence. It established the Irish Free State as a self-governing dominion within the British Empire and also provided Northern Ireland, which had been created by the Government of Ireland Act 1920, an option to opt out of the Irish Free State, which it exercised.

The officials of Smith and Ouzman printing firm that specializes in security documents such as certificates, examinations and ballot papers, were accused of fraudulently paying 47 million shillings to Kenyan officials as bait to be awarded the IEBC tender.
The treaty was signed in London on 6 December 1921 by representatives of the British government (which included David Lloyd George, who was head of the British delegates) and envoys of the Irish Republic, including Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith, who claimed plenipotentiary status (i.e. negotiators empowered to sign a treaty without reference back to their superiors). In accordance with its terms, the Treaty was required to be, and was, ratified by the members elected to sit in the House of Commons of Southern Ireland and the British Parliament. Dáil Éireann for the de facto Irish Republic also ratified the Treaty. Though the treaty was narrowly ratified, the split led to the Irish Civil War, which was ultimately won by the pro-treaty side.
The Irish Free State created by the Treaty came into force on 6 December 1922 by royal proclamation after its constitution had been enacted by the Provisional parliament of Southern Ireland (also styled the Third Dail) and the British parliament.
Signature page of the Anglo-Irish Treaty.
Among the Treaty's main clauses were that:
British forces would withdraw from most of Ireland.
Ireland was to become a self-governing dominion of the British Empire, a status shared by Canada, Newfoundland, Australia, New Zealand and The Union of South Africa.
As with the other dominions, the British monarch would be the head of state of the Irish Free State (Saorstát Éireann) and would be represented by a Governor General (See Representative of the Crown).
Members of the new free state's parliament would be required to take an Oath of Allegiance to the Irish Free State. A secondary part of the Oath was to "be faithful to His Majesty King George V, his heirs and successors by law, in virtue of the common citizenship".
Northern Ireland (which had been created earlier by the Government of Ireland Act) would have the option of withdrawing from the Irish Free State within one month of the Treaty coming into effect.
If Northern Ireland chose to withdraw, a Boundary Commission would be constituted to draw the boundary between the Irish Free State and Northern Ireland.
Britain, for its own security, would continue to control a limited number of ports, known as the Treaty Ports, for the Royal Navy.
The Irish Free State would assume responsibility for its part of the Imperial debt.
The Treaty would have superior status in Irish law, i.e., in the event of a conflict between it and the new 1922 Constitution of the Irish Free State, the treaty would take precedence.

THE PARTITIONING OF BALUCHISTAN
IRAN-BALUCHISTAN BOUNDRY
The Baloch region suffered intrusion from Iran on the western side under the leadership of Qajar King Nasir-al Din Shah, with a major war fought in Kerman in 1849. With Iranian expansionism in Balochistan on the rise, the British decided to adopt the policy of appeasement towards the Iranians to dissuade them from the Russian influence. In 1871, the British agreed to the Iranian proposal for the division of Balochistan and appointed a Perso-Baloch Boundary Commission with as its Chief Commissioner. The 'Goldsmith Line' thus arbitrarily divided the cultural, social, and economic unity of Baloch people while excluding the concerns of the people and government of Balochistan.
The Iranian expansions increased after the extension of Indo-European telegraph line from Karachi to Gwadar and then up to Jask in western Balochistan in 1861. By the time of completion of that line in 1870, Iranian forces had advanced very far in Western Balochistan. It was the period when Britain was trying to neutralize Persia in order to prevent her with siding either with Napoleon or the Czar of Russia. To compensate the loss of Persian territory in the west to Ottoman Empire, Britain decided to grant a portion of Baloch land to Persia. In 1871, the British Government accepted an Iranian proposal and appointed Maj. General Goldsmid as Chief Commissioner of the joint Perso-Baloch Boundary Commission. In 1871 Persian and British Governments excluding the Khanate delegate from the final joint meeting that took the decision agreed upon a boundary line. This line dividing Western and Eastern Balochistan is called "Goldsmid Line" forming the present international boundary between Pakistan and Iran. In 1893, a similar arbitrarily drawn line "The Durand Line" demarcating the Afghan and British Indian borders gave a large part of Baloch land in northern Baloch regions of Helmand and Nemroz into Afghan sovereignty.
It is interesting to note how, at the time, the report had equated the claim of Persia to the territory with that of Kalat, a Balochi state, thus leaving the door open for the later recognition of Persian claims. Eventually, the proposed boundary line as sketched by Goldsmith was accepted by Persia and was embodied in a treaty signed between the two sides in September 1871, hence known as the Goldsmith Line separating Eastern and Western Balochistan. At present it forms international boundary between Iran and Pakistan. Reflecting on the ambitions of the Persian empire in western Balochistan and her attitude as to "the small and unknown state of Kalat," General Goldsmith wrote in the final report of his proceedings to the Secretary of State for India on November 9, 1871, that "these traits, had they power to be independent, would be independent; not having power to be independent, they are as fair prey to the strongest neighbor. ('4) Thereafter, the name "Persian Balochistan replaced "Western Balochistan" in the official colonial documents.
Colonel Sir THOMAS HUNGERFORD HOLDICH As head of the Baluchistan Survey Party from 1883, Holdich organized surveys of south Baluchistan and Makran as far as Jask and Bandar ʿAbbās. In 1884 he headed the Russo-Afghan Boundary Commission's survey party; in 1896 he was the chief British Commissioner on the Perso-Baluch Boundary Commission
AFGHAN-BALUCHISTAN BOUNDRY
The Baluchistan commission had responsibility for the entire southern boundary of Afghanistan, from Domandī to the borders of Sīstān. Under the supervision of a single British commissioner, Captain A. H. McMahon, and two successive Afghan commissioners—first the sardār Gol-Moḥammad Khan for the section between Domandī and Čaman, the point at which the frontier cuts the Qandahār-Quetta road, then Moḥammad-ʿOmar Khan Nūrzay for the remainder—no fewer than 196 boundary posts were required. The final protocol was signed 29 (sic; really 30) Ḏu'l-qaʿda 1313/13 May 1896.

The officials of Smith and Ouzman printing firm that specializes in security documents such as certificates, examinations and ballot papers, were accused of fraudulently paying 47 million shillings to Kenyan officials as bait to be awarded the IEBC tender. The officials, former chairman of the firm John Smith and marketing director Nicholus Charles were accused of involving themselves in dubious deals using coded emails that used subjects like chicken. The two are due for sentencing in the London court in February next year. International sales manager Tim Forester and company agent Abdulrahman Omar were off the hook after being acquitted. The offenses are said to have taken place between November 2008 and December 2010, and implicated officials of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and the Kenya National Examinations Council.

London is an exciting and pulsating metropolis of the new millennium, a melting pot of both people and culture and a fascinating city of diverse contrasts.
The City Of London contains the Tower, an historic landmark with a remarkable history. A mighty medieval fortress with 13 towers that throughout its 900 years, has served many functions and from the Middle Ages, it was a heavily fortified prison.
After the medieval St. Paul's Cathedral was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1666, Christopher Wren was ordered to re-build it with a dome. During the 36 years of its construction, its design w

Travel video about destination London in England.
During the 36 years of its construction, its design was frequently altered until finally a wonderful masterpiece of church architecture was created.
The Monument is the city's tallest freestanding stone column and a reminder of the Great Fire of London that destroyed 80 percent of the city. In four days, more than 13,000 buildings were destroyed and the Monument was built on the site of the bakery in which the fire began.
Since the reign of Queen Victoria, Buckingham Palace has served as London's royal residence. A garden of mulberry trees once grew on the site of today's palace and the Duke of Buckingham subsequently added a simple brick built residence. Around 60 years later, George II purchased the site for his wife and George IV eventually began to design an extensive palace complex.
The highlight of any holiday in London must be the largest Ferris wheel in the world, the London Eye. Situated on the banks of the Thames, it rises high into the sky, opposite the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
The former centre of the largest empire in the world, London is still a city of superlatives that attracts millions of visitors each year. Exciting both day and night, London is a modern city with age old traditions and a long and colorful history.

United Kingdom (UK) Travel Guide - Welsh Assembly Building
Take a tour of Welsh Assembly Building in United Kingdom -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Over the past two decades, Cardiff Bay has blossomed under urban regeneration.
The modernist architecture of the new National Assembly building is self proclaimed to reflect transparency.
As you enter the main reception area, focus is drawn immediately to the billowing cedar ceiling and funnel.
The funnel is both an innovative architectural and environmentally conscious feature that lowers the buildings electricity costs and provides advanced ventilation.
In the Oriel, you can chat with friends in the café, watch Assembly Members debating in the Siambr below, or enjoy the wrap around view of the bay.
If its Victorian neighbors signify the past, the National Assembly building certainly represents the future of Wales.

Understanding the writing on the Rosette stone is considered a milestone in the Egyptology There's also a significant ancient Greek collection with for example El Cajon from the Parthenon.
The shallon golden laid ram in the bush is from the ancient Sumerian City of Ur. The Portland vase is from an ancient Roman grave dating back to the first century. A trip to London might as well be a trip through history. This city has long been a hub for finance, education, and culture, and is full of modern construction mixed with ancient buildings.

Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of the Shopping Areas of London, such as Oxford Street in vicinity which is one
of the busiest shopping districts in the world and Savile Row Street where tailors visibly prepare the world's most elegant suits.
Visit the Shopping Areas of London in the United Kingdom
Oxford Street in vicinity is one of the busiest shopping districts in the world. The semicircular section of Regent Street between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus is called the Quadrant. Numerous large department stores and famous shops buy in the street. For instance there's a world's largest toy store Hamley's but also worth mentioning are Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser, and there's Selfridges. One of the largest British Departments Stores second only to Harrods. Just a few steps from here we find ourselves on Savile Row where tailors visibly prepare the world's most elegant suits.
The easiest way to get around the 1625 kilometers of London is the underground or two best as it is popular be termed. The 11 lines are denoted by different colors with the total of 271 stops you can get just about anywhere in no time. The most common meeting place in London is the Statue of Eros in Piccadilly Square. The statue and fountains were designed by Alfred Gilbert in honor of the great humanitarian Lord Chasper. The street nearby also bears his name.
The neon advertisements which have been illuminating the Square since 1910 after the vibrancy of Piccadilly. The sub ground level Criterion Theatre was originally the music gallery of the extravagant restaurant bearing the same name. The value of the richly gilded ornamentation is said to amount to more than one million pounds. Opposite we see the famous 19th century Concert Hall, the London Pavilion which has been enveloped by Trocadéro Building. Behind the original façade lies an ultra modern shopping center complete with eateries and places of entertainment.
Trafalgar Square is named after the famous sea battle. Atop the 44 meter columns stands the statue of Admiral Nelson who prevented Napoleon's fleet from coming ashore in England. The statues of many military Commanders on Trafalgar Square seem insignificant compared to the four giant lion statues. The lions however, attained and peacefully tolerate children playing on them as well as the snapshots of tourists.
The Square is also the geographic center of London and serves as the zero kilometer point from which distances from the city are measured. Just as on Saint Mark Square in Venice here too people feed the urban pigeons. The spray from the fountains is especially refreshing in the summer heat but the place is just as full of atmosphere under a blanket of snow in the winter months when Christmas and New Year celebrations are held here.
Daniel Defoe the author of Robinson Crusoe was once set in a pillar over here for a polemic Essay he wrote on Religion. The National Gallery occupies the entire Northern side of the Square, since the mid 19th century the impressive building with it's dome in Corinthian columns has given home to one of the largest fine arts collections in the world.

Berlin-based artist Susan Philipsz (b. Glasgow, UK, 1965) is best known for her ethereal sound installations featuring songs ranging from folk ballads to pop music, often sung a cappella in the artist's own voice. Her site-specific works combine references to history, literature, and popular and folk music to create visual, aural, and emotive landscapes. Mediating public spaces with sound that streams from strategically placed speakers, her audio installations layer seemingly nondescript sites such as a train station or parking lot, with the intimacy of the human voice. A gang is a group of recurrently associating individuals or close friends or family with identifiable leadership and internal organization, identifying with or claiming control over territory in a community, and engaging either individually or collectively in violent or illegal behavior. Some criminal gang members are "jumped in" or have to prove their loyalty by committing acts such as theft or violence. Although gangs exist internationally, there is a greater level of study and knowledgeable information of gangs specifically in the United States. A member of a gang may be called a gangster.

ʬ The Great Game was a term for the strategic rivalry and conflict between the British Empire and the Russian Empire for supremacy in Central Asia. The classic Great Game period is generally regarded as running approximately from the Russo-Persian Treaty of 1813 to the Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907. A less intensive phase followed the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. In the post-Second World War post-colonial period, the term has continued in use to describe the geopolitical machinations of the Great Powers and regional powers as they vie for geopolitical power and influence in the area.
The term "The Great Game" is usually attributed to Arthur Conolly (1807--1842), an intelligence officer of the British East India Company's Sixth Bengal Light Cavalry. It was introduced into mainstream consciousness by British novelist Rudyard Kipling in his novel Kim (1901).
From the British perspective, the Russian Empire's expansion into Central Asia threatened to destroy the "jewel in the crown" of the British Empire, India. The British feared that the Tsar's troops would subdue the Central Asian khanates (Khiva, Bokhara, Khokand) one after another. The Emirate of Afghanistan might then become a staging post for a Russian invasion of India.
It was with these thoughts in mind that in 1838 the British launched the First Anglo-Afghan War and attempted to impose a puppet regime on Afghanistan under Shuja Shah. The regime was short lived and proved unsustainable without British military support. By 1842, mobs were attacking the British on the streets of Kabul and the British garrison was forced to abandon the city due to constant civilian attacks.
The retreating British army consisted of approximately 4,500 troops (of which only 690 were European) and 12,000 camp followers. During a series of attacks by Afghan warriors, all Europeans but one, William Brydon, were killed on the march back to India; a few Indian soldiers survived also and crossed into India later. The British curbed their ambitions in Afghanistan following this humiliating retreat from Kabul.
After the Indian rebellion of 1857, successive British governments saw Afghanistan as a buffer state. The Russians, led by Konstantin Kaufman, Mikhail Skobelev, and Mikhail Chernyayev, continued to advance steadily southward through Central Asia towards Afghanistan, and by 1865 Tashkent had been formally annexed.
Samarkand became part of the Russian Empire in 1868, and the independence of Bukhara was virtually stripped away in a peace treaty the same year. Russian control now extended as far as the northern bank of the Amu Darya river.
In a letter to Queen Victoria, Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli proposed "to clear Central Asia of Muscovites and drive them into the Caspian". He introduced the Royal Titles Act 1876, which added Empress of India to Victoria's list of titles, putting her at the same level as the Russian Emperor.
After the Great Eastern Crisis broke out and the Russians sent an uninvited diplomatic mission to Kabul in 1878, Britain demanded that the ruler of Afghanistan, Sher Ali, accept a British diplomatic mission. The mission was turned back, and in retaliation a force of 40,000 men was sent across the border, launching the Second Anglo-Afghan War. The war's conclusion left Abdur Rahman Khan on the throne, and he agreed to let the British control Afghanistan's foreign affairs, while he consolidated his position on the throne. He managed to suppress internal rebellions with ruthless efficiency and brought much of the country under central control.
In 1884, Russian expansionism brought about another crisis -- the Panjdeh Incident -- when they seized the oasis of Merv. The Russians claimed all of the former ruler's territory and fought with Afghan troops over the oasis of Panjdeh. On the brink of war between the two great powers, the British decided to accept the Russian possession of territory north of the Amu Darya as a fait accompli.
Without any Afghan say in the matter, between 1885 and 1888 the Joint Anglo-Russian Boundary Commission agreed the Russians would relinquish the farthest territory captured in their advance, but retain Panjdeh. The agreement delineated a permanent northern Afghan frontier at the Amu Darya, with the loss of a large amount of territory, especially around Panjdeh.

Urban design from a gendered perspective
AA XX 100 Lecture Series
What does urban design from a gendered perspective look like and mean? Who does it address, and what does it offer the built environment and its users? In conversation, architects, educators and urbanists, Liza Fior of muf and Zaida Muxi Martinez of Col-lectiu Punt 6, bring their experience to bear, comparing British and Spanish practices and exploring issues, including public space, urban strategies and cultural innovation. Zaida will highlight the work the Col-lectiu Punt 6, a collective of women who research and work for more equal and inclusive cities. The boundary of art and architecture, public and private, architecture and space, which muf traverses through their (originally) all-women office will be represented by their latest projects. This conversation is part of the AA XX 100 lecture series.
Leading up to the centenary of women at the Architectural Association in 2017, over the next three years, a series of lectures, organised by AA XX 100, will draw different generations, disciplines and voices into the AA conversation. Through presentations, dialogue and debate, the series will highlight and challenge the concerns and values of the profession from a theorised gendered perspective which recognises the inclusive and collaborative nature of architecture, while serving as a catalyst for bigger ideas and a wider discussion of women in architecture. The series will feature prominent practitioners from contemporary global architecture and urbanism, as well as articulate the substantial contribution that AA women have made in the last 100 years, creating engaging conversations between past and present, men and women, staff and students.

The Mekong is a trans-boundary river in Southeast Asia. It is the world's 12th-longest river and the 7th-longest in Asia. Its estimated length is 4,350 km (2,703 mi),[2] and it drains an area of 795,000 km2 (307,000 sq mi), discharging 457 km3 (110 cu mi) of water annually.[3]
From the Tibetan Plateau this river runs through China's Yunnan province, Burma (Myanmar), Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. In 1995, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam established the Mekong River Commission to assist in the management and coordinated use of the Mekong's resources. In 1996 China and Burma (Myanmar) became "dialogue partners" of the MRC and the six countries now work together within a cooperative framework.
The extreme seasonal variations in flow and the presence of rapids and waterfalls in this river have made navigation difficult. The river is a major trading route linking China’s southwestern province of Yunnan to Laos, Burma (Myanmar) and Thailand to the south, an important trade route between western China and Southeast Asia.
In English the river is called "the Mekong River", derived from "Mae Nam Khong", a term of both Thai and Lao origin. In the Lao-Thai toponymy, rivers translates to "mother of water," signalled by the prefix "mae", meaning "mother", and "nam" for water. In the Mekong's case, Mae Nam Khong means Khong, The Mother of Water. Many Northern Thai and Laos locals refer to it as the "River Khong". Such is the case with the Mae Nam Ping in Chiang Mai which is known as the "Ping River". The Tonle Sap in Cambodia is a similar example – where Tonle translates as "Great lake or Great river", making the Tonle Sap River an unnecessary repetition of what is in fact the "Sap River".
Since the river flows through a number of countries, it has many different names in local languages:
Burmese: မဲခေါင်မြစ်
Chinese: Riverhead: 加果空桑贡玛曲, 扎那曲 and 扎曲 Zā Qū, upper reaches: 澜沧江, 瀾滄江 Láncāng Jiāng ("Turbulent River", "Láncāng" is the same as 'Lan Xang' in Chinese), middle and lower reaches: 湄公河
Khmer: មេគង្គ
Lao: ແມ່ນ້ຳຂອງ
Thai: แม่น้ำโขง
Tibetan: རྫ་ཆུ་
Vietnamese: Sông Mê Kông ("Nine Dragons River")

Dark masonic mysteries of Freemasons revealed behind closed doors, cliques of the world's most powerful elite form a society so secret and controversial that their very names spark fear in our hearts and minds: the Freemasons, the Illuminati, Skull and Bones.
The intentions of the Freemasons? The goal of The Masonic Society is not just to look backward at the history of Freemasonry, but to foster the intellectual, spiritual and social growth of the modern Masonic fraternity.
The String Pullers documentary is about Skull and Bones, Bilderberg, New World Order, CFR and the Trilateral Commission.
A masonic conspiracy is being orchestrated by an extremely powerful and influential group of genetically-related individuals (at least at the highest echelons) which include many of the world's wealthiest people, top political leaders, and corporate elite, as well as members of the so-called Black Nobility of Europe (dominated by the British Crown) whose goal is to create a One World (fascist) Government, stripped of nationalistic and regional boundaries, that is obedient to their agenda.
Bilderberg Group Exposed:
The Bilderberg group illuminati intention is to effect complete and total control over every human being on the planet and to dramatically reduce the world's population by 5.5 Billion people. Check out the Georgia guide stones.
Freemasons is used today when referring to the Bilderberg group, it's more useful to identify the principal organizations, institutions, and individuals who make up this vast interlocking spiderweb of elite conspirators.
The Illuminati is the oldest term commonly used to refer to the 13 bloodline families (and their offshoots) that make up a major portion of this controlling elite. Most members of the Illuminati are also members in the highest ranks of numerous secretive and occult societies which in many cases extend straight back into the ancient world.

On the occasion of her recent exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago,Philipsz stated: "against the backdrop of the modernist architecture of the city I see the voice as a means to infiltrate spaces, like a ghost in the machine, and return experience to a human scale."
This spring, Public Art Fund presents a series of talks by three distinctive artists whose work stretches the boundaries of objects and spaces in the public realm. Whether through the manipulation of a form's scale in response to a specific context or the permeability of concepts, ideas, and emotions, each of the artists showcased in this series explores art's ability to alter our experience of public space and the nature of sculpture itself. Philipsz work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions, including solo presentations at the Vienna Secession, (2012); Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (2011); IHME Project, Pro Arte Foundation, Helsinki (2010); Glasgow International Festival, Glasgow (2010); Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2008); and Art Statements Basel/Art Basel, Basel (2007). Her work has also been included significant international group presentations such as: dOCUMENTA 13, Kassel (2012); Edinburgh Art Festival, Edinburgh (2012); Palazzo Reale, New Commission for the City of Milan, Italy (2012); The Turner Prize exhibition, Tate, Britain (2010); The 29th Biennale de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo (2010); and The Carnegie International, Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh (2008), among others. In 2010, she won the Turner prize, making her the first sound artist to be nominated and the first win. Philipsz has been commissioned for a permanent installation for Governor's Island in New York City, titled Day is Done, and will be the first work in an ongoing public art program opening with the new park and public spaces in 2013. She is represented by Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York.

In discussing banditry in Chinese history, Barrington Moore, Jr. suggests that gangsterism as a "form of self-help which victimizes others" may appear in societies which lack strong "forces of law and order"; he characterizes European feudalism as "mainly gangsterism that had become society itself and acquired respectability".
A wide variety of gangs, such as the Order of Assassins, the Damned Crew, Adam the Leper's gang, Penny Mobs, Indian Thugs, Chinese Triads, Snakehead, Japanese Yakuza, Irish mob, Pancho Villa's Villistas, Dead Rabbits, American Old West outlaw gangs, Bowery Boys, Chasers, the Italian mafia, Jewish mafia, and Russian Mafia crime families have existed for centuries. According to some estimates the Thuggee gangs in India murdered 1 million people between 1740 and 1840.
The 17th century saw London "terrorized by a series of organized gangs",some of them known as the Mims, Hectors, Bugles, and Dead Boys. These gangs often came into conflict with each other. The members dressed "with colored ribbons to distinguish the different factions."
Chicago had over 1,000 gangs in the 1920s.These early gangs had reputations for many criminal activities, but in most countries could not profit from drug trafficking prior to drugs being made illegal by laws such as the 1912 International Opium Convention and the 1919 Volstead Act.[citation needed] Gang involvement in drug trafficking increased during the 1970s and 1980s, but some gangs continue to have minimal involvement in the trade.
In the United States, the history of gangs began on the East Coast in 1783 following the American Revolution. The emergence of the gangs was largely attributed to the vast rural population immigration to the urban areas. The first street-gang in the United States, the 40 Thieves, began around the late 1820s in New York City. The gangs in Washington D.C. had control of what is now Federal Triangle, in a region then known as Murder Bay.
In early usage, the word gang referred to a group of workmen. In the United Kingdom, the word is still often used in this sense, but it later underwent pejoration. In current usage, it typically denotes a criminal organization or else a criminal affiliation. The word gang often carries a negative connotation; however, within a gang which defines itself in opposition to mainstream norms, members may adopt the phrase as a statement of identity or defiance.
The word "gang" derives from the past participle of Old English gan, meaning "to go". It is cognate with Old Norse gangster, meaning "journey.
In 2007, there were approximately 785,000 active street gang members in the United States, according to the National Youth Gang Center. In 2011, the National Gang Intelligence Center of the Federal Bureau of Investigation asserted that "There are approximately 1.4 million active street, prison, and outlaw gang members comprising more than 33,500 gangs in the United States." Approximately 230,000 gang members were in U.S. prisons or jails in 2011.
According to the Chicago Crime Commission publication, "The Gang Book 2012", Chicago has more gang members than any other city in the United States: 150,000 members. Traditionally Los Angeles County has been considered the Gang Capital of America, with an estimated 120,000 (41,000 in the City) gang members.
Chicago has a higher rate of gang membership per capita than Los Angeles.[16] The state of Illinois has a higher rate of gang membership (8-11 gang members per 1,000 population) than California (5-7 gang members per 1,000 population).
There were at least 30,000 gangs and 800,000 gang members active across the USA in 2007. About 900,000 gang members lived "within local communities across the country," and about 147,000 were in U.S. prisons or jails in 2009. By 1999, Hispanics accounted for 47% of all gang members, Blacks 31%, Whites 13%, and Asians 7%.
Freshly tattooed teardrops signify his stints in prison for a young member of the 18th Street gang in Los Angeles.
A December 13, 2009 The New York Times article about growing gang violence on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation estimated that there were 39 gangs with 5,000 members on that reservation alone.
There are between 25,000 and 50,000 gang members in Central America's El Salvador.
More than 1,800 gangs were known to be operating in the UK in 2011.

An Conradh - The Treaty 1921 Part One
Set against the backdrop of the signing of the 1921 Anglo-Irish Treaty, An Conradh documents a decisive seventy-two hour period in the history of the Irish nation.
It was a treaty between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and representatives of the secessionist Irish Republic that concluded the Irish War of Independence. It established the Irish Free State as a self-governing dominion within the British Empire and also provided Northern Ireland, which had been created by the Government of Ireland Act 1920, an option to opt out of the Irish Free State, which it exercised.

Ward Boundaries - What's going on?
So most ppl don't even know who there local city councillor is already, eh? Well, things are GONNA change! This year the Council "asked" residents their views on proposed new ward boundaries for the city. The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England plans to introduce NEW boundaries, meaning MORE councillors and MORE wards. The Peterborough Liberal Democrats were the only party in the city that bothered to provide an alternative to what the Government wants! And for the record, the final plans should be available by the New year! To view the proposals visit: http://www.lgbce.org.uk/current-reviews/eastern/cambridgeshire/peterborough-fer :) PS - The consultation has now closed! Did YOU know that?

THE PARTITIONING OF BALUCHISTAN
THE PARTITIONING OF BALUCHISTAN

Travel video about destination London in England.

Cardiff City Hall is a cornerstone of civic engagement in the United Kingdom.
The magisterial clock tower looms above a sprawling plaza, lovely gardens, and charming streets.
Inside the four-faced tower are three bells that continue to chime the hour for the city's people.
The fifth structure to hold this honor, the current hall was erected in the early 1900's.
This building exemplifies the popular Edwardian architectural style of the time.
From any angle, Cardiff City Hall reflects the austerity of what it represents.

Shepherd Entertainment gives you the history of London's museums such as Madam Tussauds and the British Museum.
Visit London's Museums in the United Kingdom
Madam Tussaud was museum is another typically London site. The French woman lived in the quarter of Louise XVI and prepared was figures of all the famous people beheaded in the French revolution. The figures were first exhibited in London in 1835; the collection is constantly expanding with life size wax statues and politicians, artists and celebrities who often donate their own clothes for their lifeless dabbles to dawn. In spite of its name the British museum established in 1753 exhibits much more than merely British objects. This was the world's first truly public national museum. Amazingly enough there's still no admission charge.
The museum was originally opened to imagine of new aristocrat which quickly probe too small. Built in 1823 the Tympanic Columns Palace is under constant expansion. For the new millennium the court guard was marbled on top to the glass ceiling. In the center of the court under the dome is a circular library. Alongside the classics one can also find such popular works as the first edition of Scarlet Pimpernel, the stories of Beatrix Potter or the manuscripts of Conan Doyle.
Among the numerous exceptional treasures on exhibit of the British museum perhaps the ancient Egyptian collection is the most valuable. From the mummified sacred cat the beauty of the great sphinx of Giza to the Tabrizian granite statue of Remises II there's wealth of objects to see.
The most famous is the rosette stone which dates back to 196 BC and was founded in Nile Valley in 1799. The text of a degree was inscribed done it in hieroglyphic symbols demotic writing and Ingrid translation. By comparing these three variations of the encryption the French archeologist Champollion was finally able to decide for the secret of the h Hieroglyphics.
The Amitābha Buddha comes from China. Also worth mentioning is the Aztec mosaic mass depicting gates of Goatel and Milden Hall treasure which is perhaps the most valuable of any of the ancient artifacts found in England.

ʬ The Great Game was a term for the strategic rivalry and conflict between the British Empire and the Russian Empire for supremacy in Central Asia.

Zaida Muxi Martinez is an architect by the University of Buenos Aires and obtained her PhD from the School of Architecture of the University of Seville (2002). She is professor of Urban Planning at the School of Architecture of Barcelona (ETSAB) at the Polytechnic University of Barcelona since 2003, where she was deputy director from 2009 to 2012. She is currently co-director with Josep Maria Montaner of the Master of the XXIst century Sustainable Housing Lab since 2004 (http://www.laboratoriovivienda21.com/blog/). She is expert in urban planning, architecture and gender, and a member of Col·lectiu Punt 6, a group of women that advocate for and conduct research on gender inclusive planning (http://punt6.wordpress.com ). In January 2014 she has begun to work as expert in public space, safety and gender for Palmira government. Colombia.
Liza Fior studied architecture - an education which continued when she taught at the AA , met and collaborated with Katherine Clarke artist (Artist partner, muf) and was conveniently (for muf) sacked when a new head of school arrived who wanted more practitioners in the school. muf were winners of the European Prize for Public Space ,authored of the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale and nominated for the Mies Van de Rohe Prize and the Swiss Prize for Architecture for projects with limited budgets and briefs enriched by the unsolicited research which was and continues to be, entwined into every project. These range from urban design, critical research, landscapes and buildings and the relationship between them —a continual dialogue between detail and strategy. Co-author of, “This is What We Do: a muf manual” (London: 2001) muf were awarded a Grahame Foundation grant for the next iteration . They are currently designing a new gallery for the Science Museum, public spaces in Croydon , Bristol and Hackney, two projects for the National Trust and a commission for the V&As new exhibition All This Belongs to You.www.muf.co.uk

The Mekong - River & Delta Reveals - A trans-boundary river in Southeast Asia
The Mekong - River & Delta Reveals - A trans-boundary river in Southeast Asia

Public Art Fund Talks at The New School: Susan Philipsz
Berlin-based artist Susan Philipsz (b. Glasgow, UK, 1965) is best known for her ethereal sound installations featuring songs ranging from folk ballads to pop music, often sung a cappella in the artist's own voice. Her site-specific works combine references to history, literature, and popular and folk music to create visual, aural, and emotive landscapes. Mediating public spaces with sound that streams from strategically placed speakers, her audio installations layer seemingly nondescript sites such as a train station or parking lot, with the intimacy of the human voice.
Learn more about Public Art Fund Talks hosted by Vera List Center at the New School | http://www.newschool.edu/vlc/
