The Lord's Prayer in Old Norse
I made this today after browing Youtube for videos in Old Norse and noticed that there was a more than average ammount of videos of the Lord's Prayer in Old English, so I decided to make my own. I'm not sure if the pronounciation is completely correct, but I tried my best.

Icelandic/Old Norse: Part 1a - Resources
It is finally here, the first part to my series on Icelandic and Old West Norse aka Old Icelandic/Norwegian (the tongue of the sagas). I plan on doing several of these and in later episodes I will give examples of how similar Old Norse is to modern Icelandic, also the similarities between East and West Norse. I do apologize for how boring I sound at times, I often do videos when I don't get enough rest, but that's just the way it goes. Myth and Reality - Hidden Knowledge in Old Norse Myths pt.6
My own near death experience serves to illustrate how I understand mythological lore such as the Siren´s Call, the Embrace of Death and the Old Norse fylgjur (personal fate goddesses or guardian angels). All to anwer the question: If male goddess worshippers got to make love to the Goddess in death, what did women get? Thre three mythical aspects to my story: 1. Huldresang, "Song of the Huldra" is like a Siren´s Call heard in the wilderness rather than in the ocean. Huldra is the queen of the forest spirits (huldrefolk) in Norwegian folklore. She calls people to serve her in her underworld mound. The story I had to leave out for the sake of time-limits on Youtube is this: I once watched a man walking towards certain death as if hypnotized. People were shouting and screaming at him to make him stop, but he paid no attention. I took up my binoculars and watched his face and recognized his emotion as similar to my own when I felt "the call". I watched the man die. I talked to a friend who was a native there (Zapotec, it happened in Mexico), and she told me that she believed, as everybody there did, that there was a monster living there that sometimes "called" people to their deaths. 2. Death experienced as being loved, see my previous video in this series www.youtube.com 3. The Fylgja (pl.fylgjur) is a Norse feminine noun meaning "follower". A human being would have a woman fylgja and an animal fylgja that followed him or her through life. The followers, both the animal and ...

In this video I am discussing comparative mythology using examples from the ancient Indian epos Mahabharata, the myth of Krishna and the Gopis, as well as ancient Mystery cult and the myth of Isis and Osiris as understood by Mystery initiates in the Classical age. These examples to throw light on how Old Norse myths ought to be read - as parables. Oh and the background, this video was recorded in a mountain cottage featuring all sorts of old farm stuff...

The Old Norse Goddess of Initiation
From Stone Age shamanism through Bronze Age Sun worship and Sacred Marriage, the Great Goddess Freyia evolved into the great Regeneratrix of the Vikings who sought initiation and resurrection through a deadly journey through the Underworld that would lead to union with the Origin of All Souls, goddess of the cosmic ocean from which the universe was birthed. Based on my book "The Maiden with the Mead - a Goddess of Initiation in Old Norse Myths". My thesis is available at the University of Oslo library and as an ebook: @Germania7 My thesis is available at the University of Oslo (2004) where it was accepted and my theories said to have been proven correct by my examinators, it may be read as an e-book here: www.duo.uio.no All drawn art in this movie is copied from Scandinavian Stone Age, Bronze Age and Viking Age rock art, engravings and sculpture (by me). Music by Ehwaz, a group that is (sadly) dissolved. Thanks to the musicians of late Ehwaz for attempting to revive Old Norse musical styles: Embla Maria Franz (voice, violin, flutes and percussions), Gustav Holberg (Voice, violin, flutes and percussions), Thomas Kvilhaug (voice, bass, guitar and percussions), John Gunnar Brynjulvsrud (voice, jews harp, kantele, Lótar and percussions), Kjell Øyvind Braaten (voice, ballafon, gambri, bass, guitar and percussions). The songs are: Skumringsdrøm, Vi Riden Så, Gwerin, Vinda, from the albums "Den siste Ulvejakta" and "Ehwaz". Become a Facebook fan on: www.facebook.com Subscribe ...

The Great Goddess - Hidden Knowledge in Old Norse Myths pt.9
Articles of interest at my website: www.freya.theladyofthelabyrinth.com (Titles Individual and Collective Powers, Burning the Witch, Haustlöng - a Skaldic Poem, Odin and the Dísir, Fylgja- Ancestral Mother and Guardian Spirit, The Mead in the Underworld) This is the ninth video in my series and since the number 9 is the number of the Dísir, the goddesses, and particularly the Great Dís, Freyia ("The Lady"), I dedicate this talk to Her. I spend quite some time tearing down the stereotypical image of Freyia as the "Goddess of Love and Beauty", an epiteth that is not supported by any Pagan source but is the interpretation of later scholars from the 18th century onwards, it was just assumed that Freya was the Norse version of Aphrodite/Venus. My thesis on the Maiden with the Mead may be read as an ebook from the University of Oslo library, go to this link and click on "fulltekst": www.duo.uio.no Articles of interest: mardallar.wordpress.com mardallar.wordpress.com mardallar.wordpress.com mardallar.wordpress.com For the last few decades, more and more scholars have begun to notice that the role of Freyia in the actual myths are that of a Goddess of the Dead, a great Valkyria, and as a völva, that is the Norse form of shamaness, witch or priestess, one who deals with magic, rituals, shamanistic spirit journeys and initiations. Living by herself, unmarried and traveling across the land to help and teach people, the Goddess was indeed the prototypical witch-priestess known in the ...

The Universal Soul - Hidden Knowledge in Old Norse Myths pt. 10
Articles of interest at my website: www.freya.theladyofthelabyrinth.com (Titles Individual and Collective Powers, Burning the Witch, Haustlöng - a Skaldic Poem, Odin and the Dísir, Fylgja- Ancestral Mother and Guardian Spirit, The Mead in the Underworld) The female superpowers of the Old Norse mythical cosmos were divided into tribes. Giantesses (gygr) were the oldest kinds, giving birth and shape to the world, Fates (nornir) gave the world its destiny, and from the Well of Origin, the Urdarbrunnr, all the norns ascend at the birth of a new individual. Each human being achieves a personal fate goddess (norn) that spins his or her fate throughout life. This norn is also known as a fylgja (follower), because she "follows" her person through life. Another aspect of the follower/fate is the Hamingja, the shape-walker, the part of the human soul that may detach from the body and change shape. The fate, follower and shape-walker all seem to be different aspects of the human soul. They all originate from one source: Urdr, (Origin) the oldest of the Fates or Giantesses, who owns the Urdarbrunnr, the Well of Origin, the cosmic ocean that gave birth and continues to nourish the World Tree (the Universe). Valkyriur are the fates of warriors who have woken up their personal fate-goddess as most fates are sleepwalking, ("daughters of Dvalinn" - "Hibernation") they need to be woken up through a ritual of initiation, which is described in Edda poems such as the poems of Helgi ...

Hanging The Sorcerer - Hidden Knowledge in Old Norse Myths pt.12
I begin to talk about Odinn´s initiation as he hung on the World Tree. Focusing on the beginning, the actual hanging and how it was a ritual derived from the ritual of human sacrifice. Historically, such rituals may have actually taken place and have a similar tradition in shamanistic rituals from Siberia. The purpose of the initiation is only discussed in part here, as I will have to continue in the next video, but I begin by telling how Odinn descended to the Well of Origin (Urdarbrunnr) where he picked up the runes of fate that had been carved into the World Tree by the norns. He carves them loose, let them run through his soul in the form of precious mead, and scatters them across the world to be enjoyed by everyone who wants them. The initiation happened after the war between the Aesir (Odinn´s people) and the Vanir (Freya´s people) had come to an end - a war won by the Vanir but benefited from by the Aesir, who managed a clever truce: Alongside her family, Freya came to dwell in Asgardr. Odinn and Freya had a strange relationship - she taught him the art of Seidr and they were married, but were then separated and both went out to travel the world as witches wearing countless names and shapes. What happened when the two were together in Asgardr was the initiation, which involved a sacred marriage. Sources: Ynglingatal and Prose Edda by Snorri Sturlusson Völuspá, Hávamal, Grimnismál (about the twelve worlds)Poetic Edda Hávamál stanzas 138-141 quoted in the beginning.

In this film Dr Emily Lethbridge explores the centuries-old Sagas of Icelanders (Íslendingasögur) during a unique year-long research trip. Emily discovers that the sagas are closely intertwined with the landscapes and the people who live there. The sagas were copied in manuscripts in Iceland from the medieval period until the early 20th century, and the stories were passed down from one generation to another over many hundreds of years.

The Thundergod´s Maze - Hidden Knowledge in Old Norse Myths pt. 21
Conclusion to the Thor Lore of my two previous videos adding some personal experiences with Thor to shed light on mystical ways of perceiving the myths. Some concepts mentioned in the video: Kristinndómr = "The Rule of Christ" (Christianity in old Norse language) Heidindómr = "The Rule of Heidr" (Paganism in old Norse language. "Heidr" means "brightness" or "heath", and the word heidindómr is usually thought to refer to the practice of worshipping outdoors - ie on the "heaths". The name Heidr is also the same as Freya used in Völuspá (The Prophecy of the Witch, Poetic Edda) when she walked the Earth at the dawn of time, after her initiation trial by fire, and taught the art of seidr to the people.) Forn sedr = "old custom", in retrospect, what descendants said to describe the faith of the pagan ancestors. Lokasenna=Loki´s Mocking, a poem of the Poetic Edda, where Loki mysteriously enough mocks the gods and goddesses, one after the other, while they try to explain that he has misunderstood their actions. York= a city in Yorkshire, England, which was once dominated by Vikings. It is famous for its many ghost sightings. Kundalini Shakti : Kundalini is a serpentine energy identified as the Goddess as Shakti (="power", the dynamic energy that carries the universe) within the body. Tantric traditions within Hinduism and Buddhism attempt to raise the kundalini power up the spine as a path towards enlightenment. According to Snorri, Freya weeps for the loss of her husband Odr ...

The Embrace of Death - Hidden Knowledge in Old Norse Myths Pt.5
In this one I talk about how everyday speech in pagan Scandinavia was full of metaphors and that common metaphors for death and dying shows how old Norse people perceived the afterlife and the Goddess. Article on the kiss of death on this site: mardallar.wordpress.com Rán= the goddess of the ocean. The name means "Robbery" and refers to her tendency to rob people of their lives. She is the wife of sea god Aegir ("The Terrifying One") and the mother of the nine waves, who are the mothers of the present Universe. Like this?
