Bangladesh (i/ˈbɑːŋɡlədɛʃ/ or i/bæŋɡləˈdɛʃ/ (Anglicized pronunciation); Bengali: বাংলাদেশ), officially the People's Republic of Bangladesh (Bengali: গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশGônoprojatontri Bangladesh) is a sovereign state located in South Asia. It is bordered by India and Burma and by the Bay of Bengal to the south. The capital (and largest city) is Dhaka, located in central Bangladesh. The official state language is Bengali. The name Bangladesh means "Land of Bengal" or "Country of Bengal" the in the Bengali language, from Bangla "Bengal" and desh holding a dual meaning of "land" and "country" as English "country," German land, French pays, etc.
The borders of present-day Bangladesh were established with the partition of Bengal during the reign and demise of the British India. Its map was chartered by Sir Cyril Radcliffe during the creation of Pakistan and India in 1947, when the region became East Pakistan, part of the newly formed nation of Pakistan. Due to political exclusion and economic exploitation by the politically dominant West Pakistan, popular agitation grew against West Pakistan and led to the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, after the Bangladeshi Declaration of Independence on 26 March 1971. With the intervention of the Indian Army, the war came to an end on 16 December 1971 with the surrender of the Pakistan Army at Ramna Race Course.

It was constructed over the Jamuna River, one of the three major rivers of Bangladesh, and fifth largest in the world in discharge volume.

River Ganges flows in both India and Bangladesh. In Bangladesh it becomes River Padma. It is further joined by the Jamuna River, the largest distributary of the Brahmaputra River, which descends from Assam and Northeast India and acquires the name Meghna before falling into Bay of Bengal. Descending from India's northern plains, the river forms a boundary of 129 kilometres between India and Bangladesh.

The bridge established a strategic link between the eastern and western parts of Bangladesh. It generates multifarious benefits for the people and, especially, promotes inter-regional trade in the country. Apart from quick movement of goods and passenger traffic by road and rail, it facilitated transmission of electricity and natural gas, and integration of telecommunication links. The bridge is on the Asian Highway and the Trans-Asian Railway which, when fully developed, will provide uninterrupted international road and railway links from southeast Asia through Central Asia to northwest Europe.[2]

There are almost as many kilometres of rivers in Bangladesh as there are roads, and travelling by boat is a way of life here. For the traveller, this provides a fabulous opportunity to see the country from a more unusual angle. Arrive at a town by bus and you're confronted with traffic, fumes, noise and confusion. Arrive by boat and it's almost like sneaking quietly through the back door. Even if you're going nowhere in particular, travelling by boat along a river in Bangladesh is one of the most rewarding things you can do during your visit. This is one of the world's most densely populated countries, but once you're sitting on a small wooden rowboat, floating slowing down a country river, it's easy to imagine you have it all to yourself.

The bridge is on the Asian Highway and the Trans-Asian Railway which, when fully developed, will provide uninterrupted international road and railway links from southeast Asia through Central Asia to northwest Europe.

Bangabandhu Bridge, commonly called the Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge (Bengali: যমুনা বহুমুখী সেতু Jomuna Bohumukhi Shetu) is a bridge opened in Bangladesh in June 1998. It connects Bhuapur on the Jamuna River's east bank to Sirajganj on its west bank. It was the 11th longest bridge in the world when constructed in 1998[1] and currently the 6th longest bridge in South Asia. It was constructed over the Jamuna River, one of the three major rivers of Bangladesh, and fifth largest in the world in discharge volume.
The bridge is on the Asian Highway and the Trans-Asian Railway which, when fully developed, will provide uninterrupted international road and railway links from southeast Asia through Central Asia to northwest Europe

Among them Indian Flapshelled Turtle, Bostami Turtle, Spotted Pond Turtle, Asian Leaf Turtle, Common River Terrapin, Roofed Turtle etc. are remarkable.
Indian Flapshelled Turtle is a common freshwater Turtle in Bangladesh.
They can be seen in almost every freshwater wetlands of Bangladesh.
They can be easily marked for their yellow head color and deep brown round spots on their back.
They usually remain in shallow water of stagnant wetland.
Bostami Turtle is another freshwater turtle.
They are popular in our country due to religious value.
These deep brown or olive brown Turtles are critically endangered in our country.
Presently Bostami Turtles can only be seen in the pond of Hazrat Bayazid Bostami shrine in Chittagong.
Legend has it that Hazrat Bayazid Bostami brought Bostami Turtles with Him when He visited Bangladesh for preaching.
Accordingly, these Turtles were named after His name.
Spotted Pond Turtles are another species of freshwater Turtle.
They are also locally known as ‘Mogom’.
They usually remain in stagnant water.
Blackish these Turtles have yellow spots throughout their body.
But they have more spots in their head & neck and hence they look beautiful.
They have 3 notches on their back.
Asian Leaf Turtles are the smallest Turtle species of Bangladesh.
They can be seen in north-eastern and south-eastern evergreen forests.
As the shape and color of their shell resemble tree leaf, they are called Leaf Turtles.
These brown Turtles are very small in size and have spots throughout their body.
They usually remain in hilly streams and rivers.
Small number of Brahminy River Turtles can be seen in our Haors, Baors and Beels.
They have dome-shaped back and yellowish black chest.
Their head is bigger compared to the body.
They can be easily marked for the yellowish-orange spots on both sides of their head.
Roofed Turtles are smaller than Brahminy River Turtles.
Their population is comparatively rich.
These Brown Turtles have a reddish line on its back.
If terrified, these harmless Turtles withdraw their head and legs into their shell.
Common River Terrapin is a critically endangered Turtle species of Bangladesh.
They usually roam in large rivers and estuaries.
These brown Turtles have smaller head compared to their body.
Depending on the season, both sexes of Common River Terrapin change color.
Typically January to March is their breeding time.
Their females lay eggs 3 times in a single breeding season and lay 50-60 eggs each time.
The young take around 70 days to hatch out.
Freshwater Turtles are vitally contributing in maintaining balance of aquatic ecosystem.
While swimming they balance oxygen in various layers of water.
They help in seed dispersal by feeding on aquatic plants, fruits and seeds.
Moreover, they maintain environmental balance by feeding on fishes, frogs, insects, snails, oysters etc. and also keep the environment clean by feeding on rotten things.
But due to reduced navigability of rivers, pollution, unplanned urbanization, deforestation etc. freshwater Turtles are declining in our country.
Besides, people of some communities consume Turtles’ meat and eggs, making them critically endangered.
If it continues like this, freshwater Turtles will disappear from our nature along with other dependent organisms and the whole aquatic ecosystem will become unbalanced.
To conserve freshwater Turtles, we must stop illegal hunting and take apt initiatives to conserve water bodies.
Only then our nature will be rich again with aquatic resources.
Bangladesh is rich with wetlands.
Flowing waters of rivers like: Padma, Meghna, Jamuna etc. have created numerous freshwater wetlands throughout the country and hence Bangladesh is globally known as a riverine country.
Here freshwater wetlands are rich with various species of flora and fauna.
Turtles are a vital part of the biodiversity of these wetlands.

Bangladesh Travel Video Guide, gorgeously green yet swamped with people, Bangladesh is a rural wonderland laden with waterways, peppered with villages and bursting with humanity.
Bangladesh Travel Video Guide is awash with rivers; more than 700 of them flow through this small country and the result is a deliciously lush landscape with more shades of green than you ever imagined. Flooding is an annual feature and by the end of the summer huge swathes of Bangladesh are submerged under rising water levels, leaving rich alluvial soils from which to grow next year's harvests.
Enjoy yourself with this gorgeaous Bangladesh Travel Video Guide

Bangladesh Railway (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ রেলওয়ে), (reporting mark BR), is the state-owned rail transport agency of Bangladesh. It operates and maintains the entire railway network of the country. BR is controlled by the Directorate General of Bangladesh Railway under the Ministry of Railways along with Bangladesh Railway Authority (BRA) and which works for policy guidance of BR.
Key features of BR are the coexistence of several gauges, Broad gauge, Metre gauge and dual gauge, and the separation of the system by the Jamuna River (Brahmaputra) into a Western and Eastern Zone of operations with only one bridge, the 2003 Jamuna Bridge, connecting the two zones. Bangladesh Railway covers a length of 2,855 route kilometres and employs 34,168 people.[4] BR operates international, inter-city and suburban rail systems on its multi-gauge network. It also owns coach production facilities.

It was the 11th longest bridge in the world when constructed in 1998 and currently the 6th longest bridge in South Asia. It was constructed over the Jamuna River, one of the three major rivers of Bangladesh, and fifth largest in the world in discharge volume.
The bridge is on the Asian Highway and the Trans-Asian Railway which, when fully developed, will provide uninterrupted international road and railway links from southeast Asia through Central Asia to northwest Europe.

Bangladesh is a low-lying, riverine country located in South Asia with a largely marshy jungle coastline of 710 km (441 mi) on the northern littoral of the Bay of Bengal. Formed by a delta plain at the confluence of the Ganges (Padma), Brahmaputra (Jamuna), and Meghna Rivers and their tributaries, Bangladesh's alluvial soil is highly fertile, but vulnerable to flood and drought. Hills rise above the plain only in the Chittagong Hill Tracts in the far southeast and the Sylhet division in the northeast. Straddling the Tropic of Cancer, Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate characterized by heavy seasonal rainfall, high temperatures, and high humidity. Natural disasters, such as floods, tornadoes, and tidal bores affect the country yearly. Bangladesh also is affected by major cyclones, on average 16 times a decade. A cyclone struck the southeastern coast in May 1991, killing 136,000 people. Cyclone Sidr struck the southwestern coast on November 15, 2007, affecting not only the coastal districts of the administrative division Khulna but also about half of the tropical forest Sundarbans.

They are mostly known as freshwater Turtles.
A number of species of freshwater Turtles are there in Bangladesh.

They are mostly known as freshwater Turtles.
A number of species of freshwater Turtles are there in Bangladesh.

If it continues like this, freshwater Turtles will disappear from our nature along with other dependent organisms and the whole aquatic ecosystem will become unbalanced.
