Bhutan existed as a patchwork of minor warring fiefdoms until the early 17th century, when the area was unified by ShabdrungNgawang Namgyal, who fled religious persecution in Tibet and cultivated a separate Bhutanese identity. In the early 20th century, Bhutan came into contact with the British Empire, after which Bhutan continued strong bilateral relations with India upon its independence. In 2006, Business Week rated Bhutan the happiest country in Asia and the eighth-happiest in the world, based on a global survey.

The culture of Bhutan teaches us how to develop compassion in ourselves, others, and all forms of life. Through traditional art and meditation practices, we learn equanimity in all situations. We learn to view all living beings, humans, animals, insects, and plants as sacred and inherently the same as ourselves. We also develop calmness in our minds so that peace, compassion, joy, tolerance and forbearance can be inwardly experienced by ourselves and outwardly experienced to others.

Paro District is the name of a district (dzongkhag), valley, river and town (population 20,000) in Bhutan. It is one of the most historic valleys in Bhutan. Both trade goods and invading Tibetans came over the pass at the head of the valley, giving Paro the closest cultural connection with Tibet of any Bhutanese district. The dominant language in Paro is Dzongkha, the national language.
Paro contains the only international airport in Bhutan, Paro Airport.

Compassion has no judgment, competition, jealousy, anger, fear, sadness, pride or attachment. Compassion places nothing above or below anything else. Compassion with wisdom sees everything with clarity, just as it is existing in the present moment.
Choki
At Choki, a Colorado Nonprofit, we are happy to help to preserve, support, and encourage this philosophy for the benefit of all at the expense of none through assistance to sacred monasteries, traditional schools, as well as other cultural centers that are treasures of this world.
Compassion has no judgment, competition, jealousy, anger, fear, sadness, pride or attachment. Compassion places nothing above or below anything else. Compassion with wisdom sees everything with clarity, just as it is existing in the present moment.

Sustainability for the Choki Traditional Art School:
CTAS is full with ever smiling students from all ages. Most of them are orphans and CTAS provides everything for them, a warm home and education. The students learn art techniques that have been passed down through generations and each piece of artwork they do is a reflection of a tradition that has been untouched by outer influences. Every brush stroke and etching is made by the students for all to receive merit or dharma who view the artwork.

Classroom Construction at Nalanda Monastery:
Originally constructed in India in the 5th century, Nalanda was a center for sacred learning throughout Asia. A vast amount of what came to compromise Buddhism stems from 9th century teachings. Unfortunately, around 1200 AD, the center was destroyed by the muslim army. However, in 1754, the temple was rebuilt in Bhutan after recognizing a number of auspicious signs correlating to the history of the original Nalanda.
Today, Nalanda is on top of the Himalayan mountains, carrying on ancient tradition through 140 orphaned students learning buddhist philosophy, ritual instruments, scriptures, prayer ceremonies, english, and buddhist logic. Every child has a story to tell and from a very early age, they already understand what most of us won’t realize until the end of our lives, that we must respect all forms of life to live in harmony and that happiness come within ourselves and not from material things.

Compassion has no judgment, competition, jealousy, anger, fear, sadness, pride or attachment. Compassion places nothing above or below anything else. Compassion with wisdom sees everything with clarity, just as it is existing in the present moment.

Dragon Kingdom - Bhutan has an unusual king, who is beginning to share power and improve education voluntarily. He's determined to put his country first.

In a world where despots cling to power by any means, Bhutan's much loved King is voluntarily relinquishing control. It's part of a plan to engage with the wider world.
This tiny mountain kingdom is one of the least disturbed places on earth. Here, emphasis is placed on 'Gross National Happiness', and schools teach children to live in harmony. "We are an independent kingdom with a very strong policy that preserves our environment," explains author Tshewang Dhendup. The king is widely revered across the country. "He's a very humble man," explains one friend. "No Swiss bank accounts, no Lear jets. Lives in a log cabin." His subjects are still coming to terms with his decision to share power. In recent years, Bhutan has started reaching beyond the mountains. But nothing is allowed to endanger its unique culture

You made my time in Bhutan magical, I learnt so much about your country and have a new understanding of Buddhism, thank you for your friendship, I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Music:
Music Wanted!!
I am always looking for new and funky local music for my movies. If you are a music producer and would like me to use your music (funky, jazz, lounge, alternative bluesy, acoustic kind of stuff) please email me at tatteredpassportinfo@gmail.com
Cameras and camera gear:
When I travel I try and keep my gear minimal.
Vloging Camera:
I have an old Sony Handycam Optical Steady Shot “HDR-GW55” that I bought somewhere in Eastern Europe possible Latvia, I think??? I love this camera, it is water proof and is a pistol grip.
Action Camera:
I use a Drift Innovation Action Camera. These are like the popular Go-Pro. They are a personnel choice and I love it.
Cannon 600D DSLR:
Twin Lens Kit. I had my first DSLR stolen in Rome and have only recently managed to convince myself to by another one. I will learn to use it someday.
Gear:
I tiny micro tripod, Drift Innovation Time-lapse mount, suction cup mount and that is about it?
Editing Software and Computer:
I use Final Cut Pro V and Compressor, on a Macbook Air 11”. It is a little underpowered for FCPV however it is so compact that I can carry it everywhere.
One Life, One Search,
Peace Out.

Bhutan
The culture of Bhutan teaches us how to develop compassion in ourselves, others, and all forms of life. Through traditional art and meditation practices, we learn equanimity in all situations. We learn to view all living beings, humans, animals, insects, and plants as sacred and inherently the same as ourselves. We also develop calmness in our minds so that peace, compassion, joy, tolerance and forbearance can be inwardly experienced by ourselves and outwardly experienced to others.
In addition, Choki represents this philosophy throughout the United States with an art exhibition from the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Choki causes in Bhutan:

Choki Women's Cooperative:
The weaving community from Bhutan preserves one of the most advanced and sophisticated weaving cultures in the history of civilization. By utilizing Bhutanese back strap looms, the culture of textiles have been integral to Bhutan's heritage for centuries. Its quality of intricate brocades and complex patterns are among the best in the world.
Through fairly traded sales of products, the weavers will have sustainable incomes to obtain quality food, sanitation, and education. The textiles are 100% handmade using unique dying and weaving techniques.

The distance between Phuentsholing and Thimphu is about 175 kms. The condition of this highway is excellent. However there are hundreds of hairpin bends and many people may suffer from vertigo and vomiting. Only taxis and small toyota coaster buses travel on this route. Bigger buses are not allowed on this route. It takes about 6 hours to reach Thimphu from Phuentsholing. All the way we had river Wang chu flowing on our left side. The views of river, trees, mountains and cloud were creating a dream environment. There is a huge gate near Chuzm where the road bifurcates to Thimphu and Paro. Near the gate, there is a large prayer wheel at the left and large picture of the King and queen on the right side. We could see another gate "Welcome to Thimphu City" before entering Thimphu city. Gradually the number of buildings increased when we entered into the township. It was a magnificent journey on Himalayan mountains. Hope this video will help people intending to travel Thimphu and other parts of Bhutan.
