Chariot pull in Bisket Jatra Festival 2011, Bhaktapur, Nepal
The closing day of the festival, the winning side of town pulls the 3 storey high all-wooden chariot (with no brakes!) through medieval alleys. Every year 3 to 5 people die in the mayhem. Kathmandu; Patna; Bhaktapur. One a day trip, Bhaktapur has all the antique charm tourists have trashed in Kathmandu. On the entrance permit reads 'Welcome to the City of Culture...Let us preserve our common heritage!'..let's" ... - "Bhaktapur13" by Stubo from a blog titled "Bhaktapur" Excerpt: "Bhaktapur is only 14km away from Kathmandu s we packed up our stuff paid our heafty room bill (we had been in Kathmandu 12 nights!) and then got in a taxi. The one i aranged did not show but it was ok as we got a cheaper deal with another one! For 300 Nepalese Rupies, which is 200 Indian Rupies, which is 150 Thai Baht which is 2 quid we traveled for about an hour to reach our destination. We have done a fair bit of shopping so our bage were really, really heavy so it was a relief when a boy came along to take us to a guesthouse and help carry the luggage. The Guesthouse was actually really nice so we stayed. It is a lovely little town with pottery being made everywhere, wheat and large red chilli's drying on the street. Kids play with kites, women tend to their shops and men sit around on courners playing chess ...
