Neil deGrasse Tyson: Atheist or Agnostic?
Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson claims the title "scientist" above all other "ists." And yet, he says he is "constantly claimed by atheists." So where does he stand? "Neil deGrasse, widely claimed by atheists, is actually an agnostic."

You are not Agnostic
You are not agnostic Some people claim to be agnostic instead of atheist because they believe it is a less severe view of the disbelief of a God. They are mistaken in their understanding of the term Agnostic. It is not a step down to a softer form of atheism. Agnosticism and atheism are two completely separate categories of belief. The definition of agnostic is:"a person who believes that the existence of the ultimate cause, or God, is unknowable." This does not mean the person believes there is a god. Nor does it mean the person believes there is not a god. It is only referring the knowledge about a god. The definition of atheist is:" a person who disbelieves the existence of a supreme being. " This is referring directly to the belief that a god exist or not. It is not referring to the knowledge about a god or whether that knowledge is knowable. A person can be an agnostic atheist or an agnostic theist. That's right, you can believe in a god while simultaneously believing that the knowledge of the god you believe is unknowable. You can believe there is no god while simultaneously believing that there might be a god, but the knowledge is unknowable. How do you determine if you are atheist? That's easy, just determine whether you believe in a god or not. It is okay to say "I don't know", but that is not the question. We don't know if unicorns, leprechauns, or big foot really exist either. But you could still believe they do exist without knowing for sure. The question is ...

Why I'm an Agnostic
Not that anybody asked... ---------------------------------- I can not bring myself to be a religious person. I can not believe in Gods and Angels and Heavens and Hells. It all sounds too limiting, too convenient and too anthropomorphic. I don't think religious people are wrong in believing in it however. What matters is that you believe in something that fulfills you and as long as they don't try to enforce their morals and beliefs on me, whatever makes them happy is just fine with me. But I'm not ready to believe there is nothing after we die either. It may well be true. But its just as possible that it isn't. Looking superficially at the world, you may be led to believe that there is no life after death. That there is no God, no Creator of any kind, for if there is one, who created him ? But what do we really know about our existence ? To examine that, lets ask the most basic questions: Who What Why Where When Who Who are we? Yes we are humans, but are we alone, are we unique in the universe, or are there others like us? Do we die and disappear or do we live on in some way? We have no context. Nothing to compare us to except other animals born on our planet, from which we ourselves have evolved. Given the size and richness of the universe, that's a pretty small sample. What What are we? Yes we are living organisms of biological origin. But we know so little. How do our bodies really work? We have advanced immensely but we still can't change them, can't stop them from ...

Interview: Agnostic Loses Custody Of Kids
Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) on MSNBC Live speaks with Craig Scarberry about losing custody of his kids because he is agnostic. Read the Transcript Here: www.alternet.org heraldbulletin.com Religion is, apparently, not "in" anymore, at least not the way it used to be, according to a new poll. Results show that in a single generation the Christian Church drop-rate has increased five-fold. That's a huge number. Goes on to show that "80% of people raised in a church will disengage before they are 30." On the other hand, there are some people who take religious devotion so seriously that they punish others for not sharing the same beliefs. That's exactly what seems to have happened in an Indiana courtroom recently. A father is fighting back after losing custody of his children in Indiana. Craig Scarberry has shared 50/50 custody of his three kids with his ex-wife for 4 years. But when that time was just recently reduced to 4 hours per week, he started digging to find out why, and he had a shocker. The Judge wrote, "The father did not participate in the same religious training as the mother ... father was agnostic." The ruling also stated, "... when the father considered himself a Christian, the parties were able to communicate relatively effectively."

Agnostic Front - Gotta Go
Band : Agnostic Front - Gotta Go ( www.facebook.com ) Album : Something's Gotta Give (1998) Label : Epitaph Records Link to Buy : ( www.interpunk.com ) REVIEW: From the founding fathers of New York Hardcore "Something's Gotta Give" is without a doubt one of AF's finest recordings ever. It skillfully blends the rawness and power of their early releases with the maturity they now posses. The title track sets the pace. Brutally aggressive music with smart lyrics and catchy choruses. Some outstanding tracks are the title track, "Believe and Voices," the sure to please "Gotta Go," with back up vocals by label mates Rancid, and surprisingly, the classic iron cross song "Crucified" a stable in their live shows.

The New Tithe
Mega-churches have used religion as fund-raising tool for too long. They shower their followers in sanctimonious platitudes, then clamor for their cash. This video encourages a new definition of tithing by giving to causes with accountability.

Using NUKE as a Render Preview to ANY 3D Renderer
At J3P we recently took advantage of the cortex open source libraries for VFX to develop an 'open framebuffer' in Nuke which allows us to port practically any renderer to a Nuke framebuffer -- we then donated it back to the cortex project. This is *not* a read node that loads an image, it's a LIVE connection to the render stream! This means using Nuke to preview renders directly from Maya, ICE/XSI/Soft Image, Houdini, etc. and eliminating the need to use their render viewers... Taking it one step further, we built a Nuke utility to load an exported scene file into Nuke (i.e. a RIB or an Arnold scene file), detect all AOVs (including any custom AOVs) and interactively activate/deactivate AOVs to finely tune our comp on the fly, as the scene preview render is completed. This means more efficient compositing because we can develop a comp plan using all our render passes from square one -- we only render what we need so we save on disk space and network traffic. It also means, as long as workstations are on the same network, we can use Nuke to aggregate preview renders from multiple packages in real time and give instant feedback to the lighters in terms of what we'll passed we'll need for the final comp... pretty cool. Pardon the spelling mistakes and lack of production polish -- we were so excited about the capabilities that we wanted to get this news out there... I'm sure we'll be cleaning this up soon. Enjoy and please email us with any questions!
Summary:
-Creates a LIVE connection to one OR MORE 3D renderer's/3D package's render stream
-This is NOT a read node loading image passes from disk, it's an open framebuffer
-Start building your comp immediately in Nuke with test render preview framebuffers.
-No need to save out images from your 3D package's test render view.
-Launch preview renders from your 3D package directly into a Nuke framebuffer.
-Render exported scenes directly into Nuke framebuffers (Ribs, Arnold, etc...).
-Preview render all AOVs simultaneously and plan which passes you'll need
-Automatically detect all AOVs in scene file -- including custom AOVs
-Turn AOVs on and off *EVEN* if they aren't part of the exported scene file.
-Preview CG elements from different lighters/renderers on same network simultaneously.
-Plan your renders and comps much more efficiently.
-Let lighters know exactly which passes you need before they kick of renders.
-Harness the power of different packages without interrupting workflow.
-Allows for a package agnostic pipeline -- allows lighters to work the way they choose.
-Framebuffers automatically update as soon as a new preview render is kicked off
-Write out comp'd test framebuffers

He says his visitation was cut because of his religious beliefs. The father argues being agnostic cost him everything. For the past four years, Craig Scarberry lived his life like many divorced dads; sharing 50 custody of his three children. Last week, Craig Scarberry got news that his time with his kids would be cut to just four hours a week and every other weekend. "Anybody who's been around me and my children for five or 10 minutes can see the love and the bond that's there," Scarberry told Fox59 News. Searching to find out why, he found Judge George Pancol wrote, "the father did not participate in the same religious training as the mother, and noted that the father was agnostic. It goes on to say that when the father considered himself a Christian, the parties were able to communicate relatively effectively. "I had never imposed by religious beliefs on my children, matter of fact, our kids go to a Christian daycare, that when we had joint legal ...
