Остров Даманский 1969 год документальный фильм rutube.ru rutube.ru The Sino-Soviet border conflict of 1969 en.wikipedia.org The Sino-Soviet border conflict of 1969 refers to a series of armed border clashes between the Soviet Union and People's Republic of China at the height of the Sino-Soviet split. The most serious of these border clashes occurred in March 1969 in the vicinity of Zhenbao Island on Ussuri River, also known as Damanskii Island (Остров Даманский) in Russian. On March 2, 1969, a group of Chinese troops ambushed Soviet border guards on Zhenbao Island. The Soviets suffered 31 dead and 14 wounded. They retaliated on March 15 by bombarding Chinese troop concentrations on the Chinese bank of the Ussuri and by storming Zhenbao Island. The Soviet forces claimed that the Chinese suffered 800 casualties while the Soviets only had 60 killed or wounded. The Chinese claim to have suffered only a few casualties, far less than Soviet losses. Further border clashes occurred in August 1969, this time along the western section of the Sino-Soviet border, in Xinjiang. The Chinese suffered more casualties. Heightened tensions raised the prospect of an outright war between China and the Soviet Union, a war in which nuclear weapons could be used. Hints to this effect were dropped by Moscow through various channels, though it has never been proven that the Soviet policy makers seriously contemplated a pre-emptive nuclear strike on China. Highly gregarious, the cormorants like to feed and roost in large numbers. They also fly in line formations. Every year the entertaining antics and sheer number of these birds attract many visitors, both domestic and abroad, to Kinmen.

Damansky Island Incident Part 1 (English Subtitles)
The story of a largely unknown in the West conflict between two communist neighbors - Soviet Union and China. Damansky (Даманский) Island was at the center of the conflict when Russian border guards held off Chinese army's assaults and subsequently prevented the Chinese from taking over the island. The island was given to China following Soviet Union's collapse in 1991. It is now called Zhenbao (珍宝岛).
