Activate - Angola: Birth of a Movement
www.youtube.com News Video Network Plz Subscrib for Latest World News Angola's post-war economy is booming and its capital, Luanda, is the most expensive city in the world after Tokyo. Although the country is Africa's second-biggest oil producer, most Angolans live on less than $2 a day. Meanwhile, the country's president and his ruling party have clung on to power for over three decades, gaining tight control of both the public and private sectors, and stifling dissent and protest.

CABINDA - Independence or Death - Part 1
From the modern war in Angola, we know the confrontations between the Government troops and those of UNITA. However, the most deadly fights which are blood-staining the land of Angola are now being fought between people of Angola and of… Cabinda. For the first time a coverage team has been allowed to join the FLEC-FLAC guerrillas, letting the world know a mostly forgotten war that has been fought over 20 years within the African land. Luanda says "Cabinda belongs to us"; to the inhabitants of Cabinda the slogan "Angola belongs to us" is similar to the one Salazar used on his speeches. The conditions leading to confrontations are created - Luanda sends thousands of soldiers to Cabinda and Cabinda replies with the old and traditional sentence "Independence or death". This is a coverage concerning a war spoken in Portuguese and to which Portugal's arbitration is being asked by the people of Cabinda. "Cabinda - Independence or death" is a coverage made by the journalist José Manuel Silva. Joint Production of the Cabinda Republic & RTP journalist: José Manuel Silva

Truly Grounded in Gratitude!
Sunday worship in the Catumbela United Methodist Church in Luanda, Angola a week ago was a little different. Alright, it was a lot of different! The service lasted 2.5 hours. Nobody left early though. In fact, all 800 worshippers including the choir members came out the same door to greet the guest preacher! There was another notable difference. They did not have an offering. Before you get too excited, let me tell you, they had two offerings! Read more at blog.trinityumc.org

Angola opposition says ruling party 'corrupt'
Angolan politicians are ending their campaigns ahead of an election that will see the people take to the polls for only the second time since a long and bloody civil war ended in 2002. The People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the party of President Eduardo dos Santos, is expected to handily carry the polls on Friday. However, some Angolans say the nation's fast-growing wealth has passed then by and accuse the MPLA, which has been in power for 33 years, of corruption. Al Jazeera's Barnaby Phillips reports from Luanda.

Angola court rejects UNITA appeal, says vote was fair Story from: news.yahoo.com LUANDA (Reuters) - Angolas top court on Wednesday rejected appeals by the main opposition UNITA and two smaller parties over alleged irregularities in an election won comfortably by the MPLA party of President Jose Eduardo dos Santos last month. The ruling by the Constitutional Court - Angolas highest legal body - means the opposition parties have run out of legal avenues to contest the vote outcome and paves the way for Dos Santos to be sworn in most probably next week. EU Expands Influence in Angola
The European Commission chairman, José Manuel Barroso, began a three-day visit to Angola on April 18. Barroso came to the country's capital of Luanda at the invitation of the Angolan government. The EU leader has met Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos and the speaker of the National Assembly, Antonio Paulo Kassoma. The leaders have exchanged views on economic cooperation and African security issues. Barroso said that the relations with Angola are important since the country is gradually rising regionally and globally. The commissioner said that the European Union is willing to increase communication and coordination with Angola on international and regional issues. The EU has also agreed to sign an agreement with Angola that would provide a fund of more than a million euros to create non-governmental organizations there. The Trumpet continues to watch world powers to see which ones will lay hold on the rich resources of Africa. We predict that the German-led EU will eventually control access to those resources. For more on the significance of Europe's interest in Africa, read "Germany's Plan to Control Africa" on www.theTrumpet.com.
