In spring 2011, RTÉ launched a new national free-to-air digital television service, named SAORVIEW. RTÉNL provisioned all the necessary national digital transmission infrastructure and systems for the introduction of this new free-to-air (FTA) platform.

The RTÉNL analogue TV network was switched off at 10am on Wednesday October 24th. Following this the SAORVIEW network took its final configuration delivering SAORVIEW to over 98% of homes in Ireland.
A special edition of RTÉ’s Nationwide programme on the topic of SAORVIEW and ASO was broadcast on October 3rd 2012. It featured recent and archive footage of RTÉNL’s TV tranmission network. It can be seen here.
