Tennessee Walking Horse- Gaits
The Majestic Rider- owner Gaye DeRusso Flat Walk, Running Walk and Step Pace. I was asked by a customer to put wraps on a horse's legs so you can see better exactly which legs are moving, also notice how i bounce up and down during the step pace, but not in the running walk, if you horse does the correct foot fall for the running walk, you will not be bouncing. I hope this helps you learn more about gaits. See my website for more information and DVD's. www.majesticrider.com

Training a Trotting Tennessee Walking Horse to gait - Part 1
Training/lessons at Copper Rein Farm, Elgin, Illinois September 19, 2011 Part 2: www.youtube.com Part 3: www.youtube.com This Tennessee Walker does not gait. He mostly trots (which is very bouncy!) or he paces. I began the lesson by getting him to relax and give his nose. He did this part very quickly. Once he was relaxed, I began experimenting what would break up the walk/trot transition, to get something closer to a walk/gait transition. Finally, I found what worked for him and he was able to give me several nice steps of gait. This lesson was only about an hour long. This method of training gaited horses to gait is very stress free. I do not use big bits or any very specialized tack. I work with each horse as an individual and help them understand what I am asking for. Training Tennessee walking horse to gait - Part 2
See part 1: www.youtube.com See Part 3: www.youtube.com Here I continue training Blaze, a Tennessee walking horse gelding. In the first session, he wanted to trot. So I worked with him to get him to start doing a stepping pace, which is 4-beat, but not very smooth. In this session, I continue the work. Blaze remembers a lot and starts out doing a stepping pace. I begin trying to refine it to more of an EVEN 4-beat gait. He does very well! The Visible Horse in slowmotion
A high speed recording of a horse with a skeleton painted on it, showing the gaits walk, trot and canter. Centered Riding instructor (among other things) Susan E. Harris recently was in the Netherlands to explain how the bones and the muscles of a horse move and how they are connected. I didn't want to miss this chance and took my high speed camera with me, allowing me to shoot slow motion videos. With these videos it will be much easier to get my 3D-model moving as it should. She also explained a lot, but unfortunately I can't record sound while shooting slowmotion videos. Consider this a good reason to visit her clinic when she's near you! Training Gaited Horses - lessons with three different horses
March 21, 2011 More Gaited Training Videos: www.youtube.com I went to a barn near Elgin, IL and gave lessons/training with three different gaited horses. My main goal was to the horses to relax, slow their walk, and be able to give their poll slightly. Once the horses were walking relaxed and slowly, then I would ask for a gait. If the gait is smooth, I loosen the reins. If the gait is at all bumpy, I slow the horse down to a walk right away! Each lesson was just over an hour long. This is the first time I have seen or worked with any of the horses. By the end of the lessons, the respective owners were able to get their horses to gait a little and they all said it was definitely better than before. One horse was a Rocky Mountain Gelding, one a Tennessee Walking Horse mare, and the other was a Peruvian Paso mare. Thanks so much to Kathy, Lori, and Lorna: I had a great time! Horse Gaits: What is Cross Firing or What is Disunited Canter? **see note below**
******NOTE: "Cross Firing" is a term that western folk commonly ascribe to "disunited canter." So common, in fact, that equine professionals (ferriers, vets) will time-to-time correct you and tell you "cross firing" is when the hind foot makes contact with the front foot at either the walk or trot (which western folk call "forging" and not "cross firing" because we're too busy calling "disunited canter" "cross firing"). Just so you know... Sign up for our email list at: www.5MinuteHorseLessons.com A 5 Minute Horse Lessons production explaining cross firing or disunited cantering.

Gaits of the Rocky Mountain Horse
www.HorseChannel.com Rocky Mountain Horses are prized for their amiable temperament, breathtaking appearance, and most of all their smooth-as-silk gaits. The Mountain Horses' gaits are popular with trail riders who spend hours in the saddle, but the breed has a highly active show circuit as well. Fine tuning Rocky Mountain horse's gait
Lesson/training at Copper Rein Farm, Elgin, Illinois This is my first time working with this Rocky Mountain Saddle horse. I was told that he gaits smoothly sometimes and sometimes is bumpy. The first thing I do when working with a horse to get them to gait is to get them relaxed and giving their nose vertically. I do this using a turning exercise. Once I have them relaxed, I start asking them to gait. If it is smooth, I release pressure and praise them. If it is bumpy at all, I slow them down right away. My method trains the horse that gaiting is the best thing to do. You don't need big bits or specialized equipment.
