Fracking The Truth by Breitling Oil and Gas
Regulatory agents inspect every phase of drilling and construction of the many layers of steel casing and cement, which separate the production well from the earth. Critics often harp on the supposed dangers of contaminating water supplies. But the key phase of drilling through the water table involves only air or water or clay; afterward, many layers of steel casing and cement are installed to protect the bore -- making it physically impossible for the drilling or fracking process to affect any drinking water. Once drilling is complete, the rig moves out and the "well-completion" crew arrives to "frack," "flow-back" and cap the well.

American Energy Strategy: Oil, Gas, Wind, Solar, Cars, Trucks, Buildings, Factories (2012)
thefilmarchive.org March 1, 2012 The Contract from America was the idea of Houston-based attorney Ryan Hecker. Hecker states that he developed the concept of creating a grassroots call for reform prior to the April 15, 2009 Tax Day Tea Party rallies. To get his idea off the ground, he launched a website which encouraged people to offer possible planks for the contract. Hecker told the New York Times, "Hundreds of thousands of people voted for their favorite principles online to create the Contract as an open-sourced platform for the Tea Party movement. The agenda had the imprint of everyday citizens every step of the way (in the online voting process)." Hecker said the Republicans' 1994 Contract with America represented the nation's last intellectual economic conservative movement, but the new list, he said, was "created from the bottom up. It was not crafted in Washington with the help of pollsters." From the original 1000 ideas which were submitted, Hecker reduced it to about 50 based on popularity, then to 21 items with the help of former House Republican Leader Dick Armey, whose conservative group FreedomWorks has established close ties with many Tea Party activists around the country. After releasing the 21 ideas at CPAC on February 18, 2010, a final online vote was held to narrow the 21 ideas down to the final 10 to be included in the Contract from America. Over two months, 454331 votes were cast. The resulting document, including the vote percentages for the ...

India has warned it's prepared to use force to secure its economic interests in the South China Sea. It's after allegations that Beijing had deliberately hampered its rival's oil and gas exploration efforts. Iraq: Oil and Gas Part 1
The weekly program: Oil and gas dedicated a special episode about Kurdistan in Iraq. The program shed lights on the oil sector, which is a pillar of the province's economy, after the government enacted a law to regulate this sector in 2007. Al Arabiya camera passed on the three largest oil fields in the region: Toki, Taq Taq and Khurmala which represent together more than 90% of the oil production in the region, 225 thousand barrels per day. The episode included interviews with international and local oil companies' officials, operating in Kurdistan, to explain their current and future plans. The program inquired about the opinions of oil companies on the Interim Agreement between Erbil and Baghdad which was signed at the beginning of the year and which revived the flow of oil exports from the region, after it stopped in 2009. The discussion focuses on the main challenges facing the oil sector in the region, particularly the disagreement between Erbil and Baghdad over the sharing of the revenues from oil exports, while everybody is eagerly waiting for the federal law regulating the oil and gas sector in Iraq, expected to be promulgated in the end of 2011. Oil and Gas from Deepwater Horizon Consumed by Bacteria in Gulf
Researchers from the University of Rochester and Texas A&M; University have found that, over a period of five months following the disastrous 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill, naturally-occurring bacteria that exist in the Gulf of Mexico consumed and removed at least 200000 tons of oil and natural gas that spewed into the deep Gulf from the ruptured well head. The researchers analyzed an extensive data set to determine not only how much oil and gas was eaten by bacteria, but also how the characteristics of this feast changed with time. "A significant amount of the oil and gas that was released was retained within the ocean water more than one-half mile below the sea surface. It appears that the hydrocarbon-eating bacteria did a good job of removing the majority of the material that was retained in these layers," said co-author John Kessler of the University of Rochester. The results published this week in Environmental Science and Technology include the first measurements of how the rate at which the bacteria ate the oil and gas changed as this disaster progressed, information that is fundamental to understanding both this spill and predicting the behavior of future spills. Kessler noted: "Interestingly, the oil and gas consumption rate was correlated with the addition of dispersants at the wellhead. While there is still much to learn about the appropriateness of using dispersants in a natural ecosystem, our results suggest it made the released hydrocarbons ...

DON'T WORRY, DRIVE ON: Fossil Fools & Fracking Lies
Hello, Vimeo -
This video represents the talents of animators Alexander Perry & Michael Wilson along with audio genius Ben Roider. They were supported by Tod Brilliant and Dalton G Crosthwait. Monstro managed the whole shabang. We do our best to support messages that we truly believe in, and this is definitely one of them. There's a lot we could be doing to reduce how much oil we consume - hopefully this little ditty convinces more people that they have the ability to reduce their consumption.
A message from the Post Carbon Institute:
In recent months we've seen a spate of assertions that peak oil is a worry of the past thanks to so-called "new technologies" that can tap massive amounts of previously inaccessible stores of "unconventional" oil. "Don't worry, drive on," we're told.
We can fall for the oil industry hype and keep ourselves chained to a resource that's depleting and comes with ever increasing economic and environmental costs, or we can recognize that the days of cheap and abundant oil (not to mention coal and natural gas) are over.
Unfortunately, the mainstream media and politicians on both sides of the aisle are parroting the hype, claiming — in Obama's case — that unconventional oil can play a key role in an "all of the above" energy strategy and — in Romney's — that increased production of tight oil and tar sands can make North America energy independent by the end of his second term.
WE NEED YOUR HELP.

HCSC Film Department History Lesson#2
It was noted in the Session 1 Re Cap that the Online Recaps started back in 2005 with Joe Carlino. This knowledge left many wondering: "who lead the charge prior to the Internet Video Revolution?" Welp... back in the Summer of 2001 Mike Parziale (a Lodge counselor at the time) began making a 20+ min. movie each session to premier for our campers, thus birthing "The Session Video", a tradition that still stands. Mike has sense moved on, starting Grease Not Gas, and Grease Bus offering snowboard transportation powered by veggie oil (www.greasebus.com). After Parziale's couple summers, the Session Video Producer was passed to Ben Fee (who left HCSC for a stint as Editor for Snowboarder Magazine, before becoming a full time film maker (read: he lives in L.A. now) and Kevin Nimick (who is now the manager of Exit Real World in Tigard, OR). After that, ex-counselor Paul Miller took the editing reigns for a season, before leaving HCSC to start Air Blaster with Travis Parker and Jesse Grandkoski. Oh, and they all lived happily ever after.

Arctic Ocean oil and gas reserves
Energy giant Total has warned against drilling for crude oil in Arctic waters, according to a report in British newspaper the Financial Times. Total's chief executive, Christophe de Margerie, said damage caused by a potential oil spill in such an environmentally sensitive area would be disastrous. A 2008 study by the US Geological Survey found the Arctic Ocean contains more than a fifth of the world's unexploited, recoverable oil and gas resources.VIDEOGRAPHIC
