Eating Durian by the roadside in Ipoh Malaysia - (Part 1). Enjoy!!!
My brother, his son and I stopped by a roadside durian stall in Ipoh to eat the durian in Feb 2012 Malaysia. Anyone who drive pass the stall will smell the aroma of the durian in the air. Durian is known as King Of Fruit in Malaysia. It is reviled by some, worshiped by others, the one thing that is certain about the durian is that it there is absolutely nothing else like it in this world. You either hate it or love it. Tourists esp foreigners find the pungent smell of the fruit really revolting! Durians are banned in places such as hotels and airlines because the smell is so strong. But the flavour is nothing like it on earth. It has a very complex flavour. Strong, bitter overtones soon give way to a seemingly limitless spread of smoother and sweeter flavours like a mixture of strawberry, custard, butterscotch, banana combined together. One just has to try it to taste the flavour. Its heavenly. Once one taste it, you want more and more ,you cannot stop eating it. It is very additive! Durian has a thick, hard husk and inch-long spikes on its skin, the fleshy sections of fruit is very sweet to bitter-sweet. The texture of the fruit is like smooth n creamy, bit like custard. Durian can be used as a flavour in making durian cakes, ice-cream, desserts, sweet and pastry. Durian trees can grow up to 30 m in height. Its very dangerous to stand underneath the durian trees while its in season! Each durian can weigh up to 3kg depends on its size.
